i think it depend on how windows alocate space for those files.depend on OS(32/64) or how system alocate clusters...not a rule for files to have same size. OS calculates size from how much free space remains on clusters

Even though it comes from the same files ... the variation might be due to the system you're having i guess ...

(update) I have never been able to play due to the "Error Copy" in the launcher. I emailed the TC to see if he has found a fix but he never replied. An update, however, is that today I noticed that the launcher self-updated first, and then upon trying to download the game update the error message changed code:
ERROR COPY [E0000029D] (shown after the progress bar indicated the download of 5/5 files)
This happens when hitting both the single- and multi-player buttons.
In case this helps please let me know!
(Win 7 Ultimate 64bit, never had problems like this one with any of the hundreds of games I install annually.)

write protection can not be an issue here anymore since that has been fixed
but missing files can be a problem
the launcher does not only download files from the server... it also copies FL files on your hdd
if these files dont exist the launcher can not finish the operation -
Just a simple tip. When I installed crossfire I made a copy of the installed file made by FMM. Sometimes errors occur in the download process or your files get corrupted in some other way. If you have a last known good copy you can replace, the corrupted or missing files copy, quickly and easily. This will enable the launcher to do its job. So if you have to do a complete reinstall make a back up copy of the installed files.

The launcher for Single-Player appears to download 5 files and then gives me the error. Would it e possible to know which are those files, so I can check if they exist in the directory or not? I have tried applying all the cautionary steps, including those in
Running Microsoft Freelancer on Windows 7, to no avail. (I should add that vanilla Freelancer works fine). -
We have confirmed that AV (antvirus) software may in some cases cause serious problems. It would be really good idea assure that it not touch CF files.
-
One of the things I did, to make sure that both Freelancer and FLMM's directories are excluded from scanning (I even checked if anything had been quarantined, and nothing did) -- and this before even starting the installation.

i get ERROR COPY [E0000029D] too
EDIT: Crossfire does not work on Windows XP too because it needs the newest runtime (.net i guess) and microsoft stopped supporting windows xp.
I guess this is the end of the line.

i got it working on my win7 pc, but selo602s win7 laptop starts it normally, then the crossfire loading screen comes and then crashed back to desktop. any idea on this?
-
Savegames ?
-
fresh install, no savegames now the launcher doesnt even try to start the game because he gets instant launcher crash. i understand that OP tries to bring a modern launcher, but no offense mate but every major update screws up the game stability even more.
-
well, i think the opposite is the case
-
works on win 7 pc but not on win 7 laptop ?
Forgot any firewall and /or AV settings ?
Forgot to run as administrator ? (on installation as well as launcher after installation) -
the game requests admin rights by itself. i temporarily disabled AV but no effect. i have absolutely no idea why it randomly works on some pcs and some not.
-
And i have absolutely no idea what your problem is with the launcher. Please give some more details.
Havent yet heard that the launcher crashes... -
Try deleting the Freelancer folder in \My Documents\My Games, worked for me!
Vardek. -
basically the following happens:
i click on multiplayer, the new crossfire loading screen(which looks good i must say) appears, some time passes, crashes back to desktop. sometimes it doesn't even get to the loading screen at all.
EDIT: thanks to deleting the save folder i can reach until the loading screen but problem persists

I will put it stright .. 2.0 client version was so far downloaded 1150 times and there was only very few ppl experiencing serious problem with launcher (I not count WinXP troubles bcs this system is for some time uńsupported by microsoft which brings some consequences). In light of this statement about "every major update screws up the game stability" sounds to me little disrespectful. Maybe would be better to do on first place some cleaning before own doorstep.
(more details can be given with use eventvwr and check for report posted there), Also info about installed Microsoft Visual C++ versions can help. Next to this are used Win7 64 or 32 bit? What AV you are using, are there not some files quarantined? )
