Inertia

  • Please get rid of it. I can't keep count of how many times my train has spun into a planet on a normal dock, because of this "feature". Not to mention when you hit an asteroid or even a starflier, you bounce 4 to 5k in another direction. Don't get me started on hitting a DK capship.....that's a 50k "bounce"

  • ... maybe it need some experience with train piloting :D .... (and not use AU) ;). Docking on moor is much more safe as dock with normal fighter on docking rink (try big race event ... and check how you will dock at end :D )

  • AUs are made to be used Forlon !

But well, I haven't seen or experienced such bounces.

  • inertia and gravity... gods way to say lol

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

  • Seriously, don't add gravity !

Imagine getting pulled by a planet or asteroid then bump into it just to fall on it again and bump O.o

Or worse, getting pulled/attracted by somebody else's ship, and stick with it.... worse if it's Spiky's pink eagle :D

This completely, because now its become next to impossible to make consecutive trade runs even on near empty server, without flying back 10K or more when you get hit by a random Armored Transport or Bigger Ship, and if they hit you in a system near a planet, you might as well consider yourself killed.

And possibly get fined for suiciding ^^

  • Ship handling 101. First thing Noob's get taught on the bridge before they are allowed to take the helm or be the 'Gator. Inertia, know the effects of it, how much the weight of your ship will impact it and how to counter it. In other words, always planning several course and speed changes ahead of where you actually are. Just saying.

  • Gearhead10: It's not really possible because one can't predict whether his ship will or will not have the inertia... I often get stuck in the docking cutscene with my Saracen in Dublin, approaching the Hyperion jumpgate from aside on cruise engines and pressing F3 to fastdock - the sequence begins, ship controls get disabled, and then I sit and watch my empty-cargo fighter missing the opening warp anomaly, bumping the gate's surface, flying out of it and then just hanging still behind the gate without any chance to move because it is a cutscene... Then I press F1, select the same char, fly back and dock without any problems. Even tried to fly some miles away and fastdock from cruise mode - and it went fine. The other day is just works from the first try.

The same thing often happens in Inner Core systems. Сhance governs all when you turn off your cruise engines - either you have normal control after that, or you feel like driving a truck on a skating rink.

P.S. I always keep my cargo empty, throwing everything out of there right as it gets in.

  • @Cresthen: All ships will have some inertia by virtue of having weight, even without cargo, you still have weapons, bats/bots, pwr gens, etc. Its like killing the engines, then use thrusters and left/right strafe to maneuver into position. Once you work out the specifics for the type of ship fully equipped but no cargo, the same skills can be used on capships as well. You just always have to be thinking ahead. I have watched others maneuvering a capship and could tell the instant they made the wrong decision and what the result was going to be. You can't wait until you get there to start your maneuvering. It is too late by then. :cursing: is the only thing left to do.

I know it sucks to get hung up on an auto docking routine and and just spin around in circles. :verrueckt: :uebel: Sometimes I have gotten out of that by clicking on a spot in space opposite of where I am trying to dock and hitting F2 (goto) to break the cycle and start over.

  • It's shit, really.
If I wanted realistic gravity in space, I'd become an astronaut.

  • I forgot, Im a noob pilot, I have no idea what I am doing.

I am NOT talking about coming in for a speed-dock, I am talking about the ship slowing to 79 at 2k and this occurs while docking. Furthermore, what "year" is this game set in? Tradelanes that dont move, yet are free standing, Jumpgates positioned and not moving, you know where I am going with this.

In open space, when making a turn, I have drifted to one side or the other for 10 to 20k, while trying to go forward. or hitting an asteroid and coming full stop, do an endover, bounce on the ass of the train, do a barrel roll and finished off with a backflip all while in cruise? Fighters arent much different...

And btw, I am very used to the inertia, but this far in the future, I am willing to bet that they have ship control down to a divine science.
