So how do I put it on a hard disk?
Or even better... How and where do I download crossfire without using the FLMM? As I have seen that you can get mods like that.

without FLMM?
not possible... not without causing serious errors -

Donwload it using FLMM ?? You mean activate it...Well, whatever you've done wrong wtih FLMM, as you said , deleting flmm withou deactivating the mods... there's an option at flmm's menu on "Tools", press "Restore backups" , but first rename the folder where you have CROSSFIRE installed so it don't destroy the game. Then you activate any mod normally on a new folder you choose.

btw. this thread is not meant to discuss any technical problems you might have
for that we have support areas here on the forumso back to the topic...
it appears that CF1.82 is getting slightly bigger than i thought -
... I hate this idea ..but if it is now so big, would not be better release update as full 1.82 mod?
-
yes... its indeed better... especially since the CF core files have to be patched to solve the AV issue
but since i have to do stability tests on the server i will have to release small parts of the mod through the launcher... the most important code samples
-
If it's practical, I think it will be better to release the 1.82 as a patch of 250 or so MB, than to repack the whole deal again into a 2 to 2.5 GB file.
However, I do recognize the fact that new players will have troubles again then. Both types then, if that is possible?
- 1.82 standalone installer (2-2.5 GB)
- 1.81 to 1.82 patch (some 200-300 MB)
-
i can remember the problems ppl had with the 1.7e patch
-
me too
Let´s reinstall if it will be easier for new ppl., cause thats the group we always like to impress, is it? It will look like more important to have a complete new installer
-
a new installer is alot of work
it would need to cover a few thousand script commands to allow the options that we have on flmm -
If 1.82 has to be a new mod to install/activate instead of being a patch, does it mean all personal data (characters) will be lost?
Or will it be saved on server? -
nothing gets lost
-
just note your AccountID to reenter it after you reinstall FL and try to launch a MP session...

this week several patches were released for the client and the server fixing a large amount of probs
since the last patch on the server yesterday morning the server error logs remained 100% cleanhowever during the past 30 hours there were 3 server crashes that i was not yet able to identify
still its a pretty good improvement i thinkill use the rest of the week to fix the few remaining client side errors and continue my work on the server next week (i should have much more time then to take a close look at everything)
-
even late CF 1.7 server sometimes crashed besides normal announced restarts, probably just someone not closing the game and restarting the launcher,
and, judging by what ive seen so far on the repair for 1.82 list, im not the only one with AV issue meaning im not the only one whose av-s delete freelancer.exe?
-
the AV issue is something that wont be solved anytime soon
the entire release of CF1.82 might very likely delay due to that -
thanks for all your continued efforts OP...
if I know you, CF 1.82 will be ready when it's it's ready...
-
if there are real coders - mainly c/c++ - outside and you have time and some good knowledge on assembler than your ability is needed. At least it would be nice if you could give us (OP or any other staff) a hint about you.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance! -
1 - the game get started
2 - files gets downloaded (new patches, updates or whatever, everytime you start the game new)
3 - you get the option to pick 'start multiplayer'
4 - you reach the main menu of the crossfire mod
5 - you continue to pick whatever you want 'singleplayer' - 'multiplayer' - 'options' - ...
if choosing multiplayer6 - you get asked and warned about risks and whatever 'continue' YES / NO
7 - you get asked what type of multiplayer you wanna play 'LAN' - 'INTERNET'
8 - you get to choose the server you want to connect to (in case you picked 'internet' in the previous step)
9 - you select the server and click 'connect to server' (or doubleclick on the wanted server)
now comes my thought
isnt it possible to implement a file in that kind of package which gets downloaded everytime you start the game, which is unique (and a new one gets created everytime the server restarts/crashes by itself)
and gets sent to the client which is downloading those package (like a cheat protection)
and if the client has a different file already, the server refuses to let him connecting to begin with (this could prevent people from forcing the server to crash, because of NOT restarting the game after crash)
and then having this particular file getting deleted (client side) everytime when the game gets closed, so that spot for the file will be empty and when things get compared, no file will be detected, so the server 'knows' that this client did restart (and not just reconnecting) ???just an Idea I have..

nope
not possible
