  • In case you are wondering what the heck this is when you sign on the server, it is a new tool* OP is running on Crossfire. It awards the player that kills another human player cash for killing them, and it also records what type of weapon was used to kill him: guns, missles, CD's, mines, and unfortunatly self kills by your own ammountion.

I do not know the level difference-winnings payout ratio so dont ask, OP knows more about that than I do, but the most it seems to allow is 100,000 max; just as if the combat ships we flew had an escape pod. The payouts are supposed to come from your enemy that you just killed, but I havent checked every time I get killed so I'm not 100% sure.

The one flaw I see with this is self kill by ammunition. As we know a way to counter missle and torp spammers is by CD's to detonate their projectiles. However with this Shell tool, it does not record that it was you that killed them with your CD, and you are not awarded your money, however your opponent still loses 100,000 or less, depending on level.

As for those shy, ashamed losers that now will worry when they die and see the "[player] killed [you]" message, don't worry. It seems to only broadcast just throughout your system.

*new as in just now running...it's been completed for a while. Lets give the creator some credit, damn fine kill recorder.

  • u wanna say that this is taking from the credits of the player who was killed ?! 8o
I actualy dont like this shell a lot.We cant make a free PvP now. :(

  • the money depends on the ranks of the players

max = 1mio$ (that would be if a lvl5 player would kill a lvl60 player (unlikely but who knows)

the kills will be stored (and also your deaths)

well its not only the kills but for now i dont want to use the full features of the tool
that will change with the release of CF1.6 coz then you will be able to choose ur faction and start location when you start a new char
you also will be able to scan freighters and trains on long distances, possibly put a bounty on others, and much more
one positive side effect is that i can close one of the admintools running on CF and this will reduce lag (all the SPs will get new rights and much more features)

but like i said... i will tell you more when CF1.6 is ready to be released and i finished the full setup

  • OP , how does the kill recording tool work as regards ASF v CSF bouts ?
BTW Liked the greeting as u load and enter the game

  • in my personal opinion, i believe that this tool should not be used, due to the fact of ppl are explioting it for money. i was harrased several times yesterday because of this. also, some ppl might do sneak attacks, reapet killing or killing some1 that does not want to be killed. all this stuff will most likely present a problem for some ppl on the server.
so basically, i dont think this tool should be used

  • ok the way i see it ppl will start killing to make money and this is good for roleplay (pirates/police/merc....)

yes you loose money but you cant tell me that on CF you are not able to earn enough $$$$$$ in a short time

additionally i think those fights bring much action and activity to CF and will help that even players less pvp skills are forced to get better instead of doing boring traderuns all the day
if you dont want to fight you can still run or call for help (roleplay, escorts....)

and on a sidenote ive set the tool to detect dockkills
meaning that you are save for 6seconds atm
if you get shot down the attacker will be fined

  • Sounds interesting, OP, but I can see where Dragoness is coming from on this. True, people can earn money in a short time on CF, but this tool opens the possibility of superior players depending on killing the less experienced as a sole or almost sole source of income. Ach, that's my two cents on a worst case scenario, might not be that bad.

  • Jonesy89 no, because you become very less money when you kill low level players.

i like the new way to make money, oh be sure when you idle in space i kill you :D

op the dockkill protection doesnt work, you can still harm the ppl in the first 6 seconds, normaly you dont kill the other player in less

  • I also think like Dragoness!
I don't think this tool is good for crossfire. My post will not change that it is used and I hope that I am wrong but I think new players will be killed often and then they will not stay on the server.
I'm sure you are right OP, it will bring more activity and make the game more interesting, but I am afraid, the wrong ppl will get "hurt"(killed)

  • like marc said... if you kill a player with low rank you get nearly nothing

and i know that if ppl start killing noobs then they get trouble with others (like BG)
and i trust the clans that they will play fair and help

  • OP is right when he says that clan are expected to play in a fair way. This means a bigger responsability on clan leaders.
I like the idea of the "bounty", cause it is a sort of bounty on every high level rank. Good for me. Traders will actually need and escort now [10]

  • Like I said, that was a worst case scenario. In truth, I am kinda intrigued by the idea.

I second that, in my opinion, this is going to discourage new players from exploring.

Remember that dude who went thru the minefield in Custodian? I know that is an extreme case, but imagine less experienced players who try that a couple of times over again. They wouldn't have any money left after a certain time.

Or, just think how easy it is to get killed when flying a Starflier and fighting the local enemies (in NY, that is). I know Xenos are pretty tough when your shield can only absord 400 damage... And if a player doesn't have the skills yet...

Even I got killed when I started exploring Altair, and that wasn't long ago (or Hiruga, earlier on).

Also, people don't really roleplay like you think they do, OP. I asked sometimes to hire an escort (and even at a pretty good rate), but no one ever answered. I always wished to be in a group with two/three experienced players whilst trading stocks. But no one wants to take the time, or they'll refuse because they are friendly with a faction who hates me and they wanna stay that way.

    Anyways, I am drifting off-topic.

What I mean is that this system is not a good idea for the newest players and the pacifists. And seriously, how do you improve your skills other than fighting with someone who has some to learn and dying (therefore losing money)...

And if you say that you'll win about 100,000 by killing an equally experienced player, why then not add lootable stuff to players' ship so they DO drop an actual escape pod (just that)?

    because thats not possible

the way i see it is that ppl are forced to roleplay... we had enough mercs a few months ago but nobody hired them... now they can
you still can avoid fights by not using the normal "ways"

and for new players and those that want to do training
i deactivated the bounty in New York, Arena, Cube Arena and Colloseum

and i can imagine to do the same for the clansystems (for claninternal training)

additionally to this ive tested the dockkilling protection with baldwin
if some gets dockkilled a message will appear about this dockkill and no money will be payed (ive raised the time to 15seconds now coz of the fact that some docking sequences take some time)

  • These are innovative adjustments, but only time will tell whether or not this was a good idea. I think this feature will be seriously exploited and scare some of the worse-off dogfighters away from the server. On the other hand, this might totally overhaul the gameplay in a positive sense... Hmmm...either way OP, it's got enormous potential.

  • I reply for the second time just cause i think this is a good idea from my point of view.
I like pvp and consequently I like to tax ppl and have some action. May I underline that this change is a sort of tax? Everybody got it on his head (and everybody will prefer to fight instead of paying 100.000[84]
But this is just an oppurtunity to improve the roleplay. I do not attack all the BG or freelancers I see around just because I'm a pirate. I can have other business or just in a bad mood for fighting because it's early morning [2] . The same will be for this new chance. The player who wanna get it is free to doing so

  • What would happen if one had a negative sum of money for their char as a result of this Shell? Say a person is playing PvP, but only has, say, 500 credits. If they get killed, what happens? They've only got 500 credits to give up. Would the char be corrupted by the deficit, or would the victor only get 500 credits?

  • I will say this, since it has already happened.....a level 37 player was killed in New London today by a level 70+ player.

I will hunt this lvl 70+player and give my killing credits to the lvl 37 player.

This goes for anyone I see abusing these low level players.

If a lower ranked player chooses to fight, that is one thing, but if you pick on the little-guy, Im going to pick on you.......trust me.
