as long this game keeps making problems with frame drops in supercruise i clearly wont invest in horizons

you mean the lag jumping from one system to another? I also have experienced this lately. But it got worse from the moment i inceased the texture size - one of your modding examples.
Maybe its due to graphic lag - but as its in inter system jumps where you cant do anything at all - i dont really care about this lag. Its just 1 or 2 seconds at maximum. In general just a fraction of a second. -
set the planet texture size to 4096 for ultra and the lag is gone
but no... i dont mean that
during supercruise my frames go down to <10 fps which makes one of the biggest parts of this game nearly unplayable
this bug is known and many players experience it (first reports about this problem date back to december 2014)
since the 1.4 update not only amd GPUs experience this but also some Nvidia cards.... and from what has been reported the patch yesterday made it even worse
The problem is worst under windows 10 but all other versions also have these frame drops (eventhough it remains playable in win7 and win8 ) -
Regarding this I'm happy to stick with Nvidia (Gtx 960) and and Win7 (for this moment). Myself hope that there will be more bugs bashing and optimizations till Horizons will be released.
[v1.4.01] Severe stuttering both in supercruise and normal space ... maybe not exactly related to this, but there is clear one rule which say that do a drivers update to just recently newly released latest version can have bad outcome.
-
i really doubt that it has anything to do with drivers or the OS
it happens under mulitple OS and mulitple drivers developed by different manufacturers -
not sure i suffer under these frame drops, although i have never measured. But i dont see the graphics to start shaking. I could imaging with frame drops in SC its hard to travel freely to the target position, which would surely rob nerves. Luckily that all works pretty well

claims about fixes were already done for 1.4 (but it got worse)
only nvidia card users seem to report improvements
not a single confirmed improvement for amd users -
Even we nvidia users get it, just not as bad as you seem to OP. My framerates are buried at 60fps and this is with EDFX running and resolution at 2715. I have an i7 with a gtx 960 4gb ram. Now i get stuttering at the start of using FSD and sometimes in asteroid fields, Notice this more when i'm in a wing strangely as opposed to running in solo. I was testing all this in 1.5 ships beta, and didn't see any issues so this could all be a networking problem when we are all on the servers bearing in mind ED uses P2P sharing. Will just have to see. I'll check it out when the Horizons beta starts hopefully today and report back

cool thx

supercruise issue remains

supercruise issue remains
for you with gtx 980? or you means AMD?
-
amd card
-
There's also a drop in framerates on nvidia cards as well. Down to 20fps on my rig on planet surfaces, around 30-40 in stations, 60 fps elsewhere. If i run the new 64bit ED on it's own, getting 60fps everywhere

well, it does not seem that AMD or FD care about the SC problems
both remain silent for months and im not going to play at ~10fpsin my eyes what FD does is fraud as they claim the game would be running fine on AMD cards which is not true
-
There was (if i remember right what i have read on fd forums) working good older driver version for AMD. I myself do not want do any own 'judgement', bcs not have any relevant info regarding relations between AMD and Frontier. Myself are happy with decision buy gtx 960 (which is also very energy savy) for pc build in 2008 and able very smoothly play ED.
... for AMD users I will be curious if can get refund considering long time issue situation.

Maybe its a BIOS setting if its an onboard card? Have had this too and deactivated switchable graphics in the BIOS, which now runs better, although i am not playing FD on this PC. But know that this could harm GPU performance.
-
its not a bios setting
its that stupid trail effect of other ships in supercruiser which is causing all that messthe issue has been around for many months and an easy solution would be to simply remove this totally unnecessary effect
however, FD gives a fuck and still claims that the game is compatible with AMD cardsthe use of old drivers is no option
new AMD graphic cards are not compatible to these drivers (version 12.xx) and downgrading drivers is even for old GPUs not an option as you lose features and alot of performance in most other games
next to that are the old drivers not really compatible with windows 10 and getting the drivers downgraded without being upgraded automatically every 2 days is way too complicated and way too riskywhile this might be an AMD driver problem FD easily could have fixed it on their side by simply giving players the option to disable ship trails in supercruise.

Todays Update of ED came together with a Driver(-Fix) for AMD.
As I never had problems with FPS-drop in supercruise, I don't know if it fixes the problem. May be worth a try.
(Running an AMD 7850 on Win7 here) -
will try it this weekend
i certainly will have to do lots of updatesmy main question is.... is the fix an update of ED or is the fix a new AMD driver?
if its just a bugfix to the amd drivers then i probably still will be locked out of the game as the latest drivers crashed lots of games including STO
