Suggestions for Crossfire 2.0

  • These suggesions are specifically for the SWAT team who're now developing Crossfire 2.0 for Freelancer. Such suggestions are based on personal research into Crossfire and other mods. The suggestions may also be applied to other mods due to the similarity between Crossfire and them.If not,these suggesions could lead to a wrong direction which may develop into diseasters for a Freelancer mod.

  • okay i will just throw this one out there , OP is it possible to make the battleship a little better so its harder to kill by a single VHF :) only if possible:) plz dont kill me just thinking out of the normal box :)))


    simply making them immune to spin-arounds and/or asteroid blockage would be enough and awesome, too^^

  • in my OPINION we dont need to copy what DISCO have ,, like the realistic move .
    i think we need to make NEW FEATURE for CF .....
    maybe make the ship UNSTABLE if have heavy damage ..
    or Make some EXPLOSION on weapon slot when the weapon lost
    or make CounterMeasure Dropper is more EFFECTIVE against Cruise disruptor
    or make a different sound between ENGINE KILL and ENGINE ON
    and ..... make a DIFFERENT ENGINE SOUND on every ship ....
    So EVERY ship have UNIQUE sound :D
    we must creative !!! Dont try to copy other if we still can do BETTER :D

  • I don't know if it's possible but I think it would be nice to improve the quality of the cockpit-view, because I think like the cockpit is now it's a bit boring. Just some more Details, mabe a little radar at the background or some buttons would be nice.

  • Wow, none of those would ever be used ever. Ever. Especially never in combat. Combat would have to be slower than medieval sail ships...

    I am not sitting here saying "no" because I dont care or because im a modding noob. I have always took the chance to do improvements IF they were possible.
    And exactly this is the point... what you want IS NOT POSSIBLE... and I have explained why.
    Still you insist in something that you dont understand... or dont want to understand.
    CF is not discovery... it uses different physics... even physic extensions which dont exist in discovery.
    WHAT YOU ASK FOR CAN NOT BE DONE.


    Turning CF into a kind of Disco would mean to loose CFs gameplay and countless of important features and that is something I will not allow.


    If BS spin is such a problem to you I might have a suggestion: I can remove all battleships from the mod so this spin wont be an issue any longer.
    Perfect solution if you ask me.


    If you consider me a noob that does not know what he is talking about then you are absolutely free to take the mod, do the changes and prove me wrong.
    Lately I have the feeling that everybody has become expert for modding CF and expert for the CF features eventhough no other mod makes use of them. Putting aside that none of these people ever were able to tell me how their "ideas" should work... it would be cool if these people would use their expertise and actively help with the development (not by words but by actions).

  • Freespace / Freespace2 during escort missions to a jumpnote / mission objective - so yes i saw them doing so (virtually - as there are no BS in RL...yet)
    besides i have to admit that these asteroids were destroyable, which i think is not moddable in FL, is it?


    In some respects: sadly, in others: happily ....This is NOT Freespace / Freespace2 or FSO (FreeSpaceOpen).


    Totally different game engine AND game play, esp. CF, that's multiplayer orientated, while the whole Freespace-"family" is mostly singleplayer.



    Unfortunatly nobody ever made a "Freelancer"-mod for the FSO-engine (beside OP, who once started a Starlancer mod for it, but it's on halt for quite a time).





    When they are minable, they should could also be destructable (I think), ..... "just" like the debris you can blow up while flying through a minable asteroid field.
    But I don't know, if it's the effort to create something a like the mission from Freespace you mentioned. Only if something alike would be a important part of the
    for the "last chapter" of the "story of Crossfire".

    Yeah, THAT would be an improvement !


    Not the stuff with the "useable" buttons, mentioned in the following post, but the cockpit-view itself.
    I mean, ... , perhaps the camera position or its angle of view could be changed.


    The cockpit models itself, esp the ones OP has created are GREAT, with buttons, "monitors", "hands on the rudders" and stuff.
    But you can't see most of it, since the "camera", your view seems, as if your nose is sitting just behind the
    cockpit glas, any further ahead und your head would stick out of the cockpit at all.
    (Personal opinion. That's just as it feels for me.)

    Crossthinking of different games, getting/being familiar with different, preferrable moddable space-games, creating new things ev. by porting one feature
    from here to there and vice versa ?
    Btw, any thoughts about carrying on with StarLancer Solwars ?

    yes OP, for my part i was just thinking of features - no matter if possible or not, thats another question, but the idea itself and to float suggestions is the first step we all need to make to improve the mod, the community and the whole world^^ (ok now im getting a bit too far, but i think my point is understandable :D )

  • i have another idea !!!
    i know to make detailed cockpit is hard .....
    But ... if you make the TEXTURE HIGER that before ....that will be nice :D
    Actually all COCKPIT dont really have high TEXTURE design , not like other object like planet , bases ,etc etc
    And if i see the cockpit again , it look's like 2 dimension :D
    I hope you can make the cockpit look lke a real 3D :D

  • May I suggest slightly increasing the range if the cruiser cannons?


    Maybe even slightly increasing their damage, but only slightly, as Liberty cruiser can fight off a medium-skilled fighter in a VHF pretty well, but the range is a big issue with the guns.

  • In that case, increasing the range is a must (again, only by a little).


    Only cruiser forward gun has a huge range, but BS can still rain hell on it with it's cannons.
    I don't think destroyers can match that - especially with the lower armor (though, Kusari D. is equipped with extra guns...)
