I remember I posted it (the all in one map) when OP told about a newer version of altair and inner core eye candy maps, basically for Orion. ( My DB was looking the same by then, except a lil organization improve).
About station screenies... hum ?
people need to know what station sells what thing more (ships, equip, ammo and everything)
Like you can see in the 2 screenies of this DB, you have all info about the system, then about every station in there, below the navmap picture.
Still it'd be a good idea, for later additions, to add on the name of the station on the information board a link to it's screenshot, showing how it looks and extra info
An interactive map is even better than freelancer maps... as you can actually click on the big map every system and see more info than FL offers Also more system than FL CF universal maps shows...
Okeys, anyways...
WHO is really going to participate in this ? So they get the DB of all systems with all details like wreck, for reexplore.... if they wish, ofc
Silver Arrows Command represented by SA Chief Officer, Vice-Admiral Sam Thomas offered me leadership for the SA contribution to official Crossfire Wiki. I accepted this proposal .
Notes:
1) I will have of course help from our members for data gathering, but "main administration, leading work" will be mine.
2) We need create basic template for one system and next we can talk about details and we can begin data gathering. ...
3) For system maps: resolution? (600x600?), update some details in those maps? (wrecks, hostile Doom's bases, Sensor stations in old DK systems and ... + How this update, only cross, or symbol or ...)
4) For bases: descriptions, screenshot(-s), equipment (all? or rare?)
5) Wrecks: descriptions, screenshot(-s), loot, if is loot black box contained text.
4-5 resolution for this.
1) Yes, you may lead the info other SA members get, hopefully not only SA and CFPD (and PX ) will work on it
2) and 3) Yes, 600x600 for the map is okunless we hit some problem), no updates of other details except adding a bigger visible red X on wrecks, add the name of the alien (both hostile and non hostile like DKs) stations which don't appear on system view( if it happens for some players), and that's all for teh map. The rest of detailed info appears arround the picture, as the picture has to be clear for an easy view, to find what you need on what sector it is fast.
4 and 5 mainly, no and no
You will see in the PM I sent you, which isn't shareable
*sigh* you edited your PM.
ill set up the wiki next week
what you make out of it, how detailed it is going to be... all these questions simply depend on you
in fact ... its your CF wiki
Great, ....I hope that we can do this CF wiki very detailed. If is created base structure, then adding stuff is much easier.
OP: is possible to create separate thread for this wiki creators with limited access? ... It is much better than use PMs.
no
everyone = wiki creator
This will be fun. Basic template for the system already exists in game when you click on map of systems, then "?". Informations, bases, factions, resources, wrecks. We could add maybe something like "Notes" on the end.
I have voluntered to help with the CF database (will keep me busy when nothing special to do )
I will report directly to SA_FORLON as soon as he has specific mission orders.
Well, we(btw me and Orion, the SA cartographer) already planned the details/requirements of the DB, if this is finished... it'd be as OP said "wit hevery bit of information", more than any DB ever made
Counting that the wiki system can handle all the personalizations... it works on the html DB I have, but not sure on the cf db.
When we fix the list a bit... posted, everone will know exactly what the DB needs, and everyone will have a job
Clans can choose to have a representant on their clan, or report directly the chosen systems each volunteer has to check, and we already have a goo help from the screenies we got in gallery of each ship, but it's no finished.
Every bit of info will be checked, and if there was a bug found, it will be reported to OP for fixes
Ok, the system agreed is the below system for data gathering (in separated folders): ...
General tips: Use 1600x1200 game resolution with max performance levels, bloom or adv shaders not needed.
Folder: System name
1) system map 600x600 (Needed 1600x1200 game resolution!!!!, only map area without coordinates!) + big red cross for wrecks + names for Doom and DK bases. ... those names can be acquired with cursor pointed at selected object and next screenshot this name box and add it to system map.
1a- list with all NPCs in system (plain text file with NPCs divided by comas)
2) Base name folder
2a- screenshot 600x600
2b- description shot (or best plain text)
2c*- list with ships to sell at this base (many changes especially in Sirius were made in 1.8., so everything also has to be rechecked )
2d*- list with rare guns/turrets 9-10lvl and rare equipment (we have some info, but not complete list for all locations)
*it is enough one plain text file with 2 lines and info divided by comas
3)Planet name folder
3a- screenshot 600x600 + if settled landing pad screenshot (once landed)
3b- description shot (or best plain text)
4)Wrecks name folder
4a-screenshot 600x600 (low priority but still will be nice to also have theese pictures )
4b-description shot (or best plain text)
4c-loot + wreck description (text or description screenshot) (the explorer has to check every dropped item to see how many items of that type are in space... ex: Cardmine x84)
4d-for black boxes description shot (or best plain text)
5)Ships
we need do for all ships agility test: exactly chronometer(measure) the time in seconds it takes to make a 360º with engines stopped and speed 0. A fast ships (Shroud, Thanatos, etc) has 3.9 seconds a turn.
....this can also be done in SP if you have some advanced save positions because you dont lose too much money in MP, still several players can afford buying each ship
Note: If you are in game and press Print Screen key, it automatically take screenshot to your Pictures/freelancer folder in Documents ..you may be surprised how much shots you have there if not know about this
Note2: If you found any Description inaccuracies or other possible bugs while exploring, pls write this to separate file in System name Folder (Bugs.txt)
For now we have volunteers from SA (5), from CFPD (2), any other volunteer ? If so, plz post it here or send me a message... or choose a clan manager which you'll report at, then they will report it at their turn.
I will update a list of the satus of the DB on another thread, so people know which systems to explore, and what to recheck... so we don't do the same stuff twice or more times People can also choose to post their explored parts on that thread, or send them by PM.
We expect some surprises when the DB is over
-Michael & Forlon
PS: Are the details ok OP ? If it can work on the official DB. Else, the system/coding of the official DB can also be reworked
PS2: Moddb also has a list of normal info about CF ships, including NPC-only ships...
I don't get it, why "apply" or get managers, isn't wiki based on many users' input, and then there's moderation and stuff?
Anyway, I'll participate too.
It is free... but there has to be some organization and management, to make it fast and clean, also assured the stuff was checked, and not just some memories, or old maps, or whatever issue can appear, will be sighted fast
But for now, waitingg OP's words about the possibility of the DB software he told...
the db software is the same being using for the games wiki we already have
and i agree with shockwave
You actually meant a game(s) wiki as vanilla Freelancer is now ?
Not an interactive DB with everything, similar with sivosten's ? ...
then... whatever... people know to explore by themselves and upload a picture and copy some text Though we were up to do something better,
which beats the personal DBs so everyone come here. (if you have noticed the details of how the DB should go, on my large post... 2 posts ago)
And the clans with personalized DBs use their own ones as until now... and me with mine which seems it's the only one filled.
The old CF Database is purely outdated and not looking that good.
CF needs a new official Wiki...
I can provide the neccessary wiki software (actually a 2nd version of the SWAT Games Wiki)... that would fit perfect into the portal, the CF page and would even allow us to set up special access conditions based on activity.
Just noticed "Wiki" instead of "DataBase".
huh?
Wiki, as vanilla Freelancer is on the games wiki here(everything separated), isn't the same as DataBase... with interactive maps and everything visible... better than the in-game navmaps
you can make interactive maps yourself... As HTML is allowed that should be no problem. I guess the maps on sivosten are also HTML made maps - could not imagine that another technology has been used there.
Anyway besides interactive maps - the wiki we have here is a perfect place to store all relevant information. You can work with categories and articles and everyone could contribute
[...] and it´s not that hard (but time eating )
Well done your Map is clickable now
yeah correct that are called image maps. works like a charm But that should be not the main topic to decide to make a wiki or not. And we could discuss hours and hours to make it and how to make it. We could have started already?!
