Difficulty in SP fending off Rogue Coalition

  • Hi there, I've been busy playing cf now, and with some hints here and there found my way to Sovetskaya, and new hongkong. (I won't spoil anything). But there I meet rogue coalition ships and they've got masive firepower. 'm stil in my bullpup 3 freighter, with 21000 hull but still my shield gets blown to smithereens, and while my left hand is searching for nanobots I see myself explode big time.

i am no stranger to frantic play, been playing UT2003 a lot at higher levels... 8) but this was scary 8o . Might it be that the level 7 shield on the bullpup is the problem and I can only navigate there with a good fighter? So make sure you make your money in Sirius and then spend it in Altair and inner core?

  • Greetings Rossman! I think you've got several problems in dealing with the Coaltion Rogues....

    1. You're tackling some of the strongest pirate factions in the mod, they carry as good equipment as the Coalition military forces and are possibly on par with thier skills/difficulty too. I regularly destroy high-level Outcasts and CSF forces fighters like I eat shredded wheat for breakfast back in Sirius and even I don't screw with the Coalition Rogues if I don't have to!

    2. One big mistake in taking on the Rogues as well is that most of their ships are the same as the Coalition's, small, manuverable and well armed.(read: they fly ships like the Lagg and the Saracen, very agile, while packing heat like 6xCoalition Gattlings, I.E. you're ship's hull is swiss cheese in approximately 3 seconds with zero shields) You're probably in one of the least manuverable "flies like a pregnant yak" freighters in the mod. This is probably your biggest issue IMHO.

    3. Yes, the shields are another big factor, you will need any of the lvl 10 shielding available in Sirius: the Adv. Champion lvl 10 graviton shield, Adv. Barrier MKII lvl 10 molecular shield or the Adv. Brigadine MKII lvl 10 positron shield, they are all roughly comparable but more effective against certain types of guns, respectively. (PM me if you want to know thier locations)

    4. I can only hope you have not ruined your repuation with them, as initially, they are neutral. If they are now hostile to you, you've got another just as deadly faction to deal with in Altair space, alongside the Nomads and possibly the Dom'Kavash. Not a fun place to be where bases are not near as numerous in the Sirius Sector.

My recommendation to you is to head back to Sirius for a more agile ship (or choose a fast Coalition fighter in Coalition space) and find some better weapons most likely.(get the Coalition gattlings in Coalition space, they will help even the odds a little, they are pretty "highend" weapons in this mod) Look for the "Shroud" on planet Prophecy in the Tarsus system, it's my personal favorite and will be much, MUCH more manuverable than the Bullpup MKIII. With a weight reducer it will get even more faster turns and greater agility. It can pack some serious heat with dual torp slots and 2x lvl9/4x lvl10 weapon slots. With it and a nice weapons loadout, you should have a much easier time with the Coalition Rogues.

  • Thanx for your reply. I haven't seen any weight reducers in hte game until now. Can I get that in the Tarsus system as well?

I already was planning on returning with my Bullpup tot Sirius, having bought 2 Gattlings... I'll try and up my stance with several factions. I guess I was hostile with the rogues since I took a bribe for the coalition earlier in the game. Never thought about the crossfire guys putting in hostile rogues inside the system. I only counted on having to deal with nomads, and with my bullpup that was no problem with the Mk3 using the strafe and slide technique..

No problem sir! Lt. Commander Arkane at your service! 8)

The weight reducer MKIII (the best one) can be found on planet Harris in Tau-31 for two million I believe.

Yes, get as many Coalition Gattlings as you can afford/have slots to mount them. You can also buy the Phoenix Project Cannons on Earth in the Sol system, they are pretty nice guns as well.

I'm rather interested in your story that the Coaltion Rogues are hostile to you, it's strange... Even with good relations with the Coaltion they were still neutral to me when I first came into Altair. I suspect you may have killed enough of them to garner a bad rep with them and I don't have a clue how to fix that honestly, aside from destroying Coaltion fighters...(which is NOT a wise thing to do in Altair, with all the DARK REIGN ION CANNONS all around Coalition space)

  • Remember that if you mount an Weight Reducer, you can't mount an
Armor.... like the one that makes +100% extra armor. So it's your
choice, if you prefer speed or double armor.

  • Sovetskaya ... rogue coalition ships ... bullpup 3 freighter

i am no stranger to frantic play ... but this was scary 8o .

The BullpupMk3 is one of the most "survivable" ships in the game... but only if you turn tail and run when you are out-gunned! The tough armor and nine guns make the BullpupMk3 formidable against lesser enemies -- but the Coalition Rogues are just too tough. A wing of Dom Ka'Vash fighters or some of the Inner Core aliens can be even more fierce.

When facing these uber-enemies, the dual thrusters are the Bullpup's strongest feature. Kick 'em in, drop some mines, and evade. :)

Depending on your fighting style, the APC Armored Transport is another good choice (in addition to the fighters mentioned above). No dual thrusters, but it handles like a (heavy) VHF, has lots of guns and armor, and can mount level 10 shields.

I know that most folks here prize good handling, and that is legitimate for some fighting styles. However, it is possible to be extremely effective in a freighter -- especially the BullpupMk3 (at least against NPC enemies). The key is to make good use of distance:

    1) Use the BullpupMk3's dual thrusters to stay out of weapons range from your adversaries. Let your shields recover.

    2) Thrust full speed with those dual thrusters toward the enemy. You have nine guns on your BullpupMk3, so use them to hammer the enemy. This works best if you mount long-range weapons such as Dom Ka'Vash Annihilators (DKA's). The DKA's are the longest-range gun in the game. With six DKA's and three good turrets you can do a lot of damage to an enemy before they even get into range to use their own weapons.

    3) When your shields fade, then turn and run.

    4) Repeat. Pick off one enemy from the attacking wing at a time.

If you fight this way, then maneuverability is almost completely unimportant. Most of your turns will be made while sliding away from the enemy, so turning speed does not matter.

(Of course, there is a "trick" to doing the above, and that is getting six DKA's in the first place! I recommend taking on single DK Gunships until you get the hang of it. They often call for reinforcements before you kill them, so expect to be fighting two, even if you only see one Dom Ka'Vash gunboat when you begin your attack. Kill the first gunboat, tractor the loot, then get out of there before the second gunboat rips you to shreds. :) )

@Arkane: I had similar trouble with the Coalition Rogues. I think it started when they tried to pirate my cargo and I thought I would teach them a lesson. It turned out the *I* was the one who learned a lesson that day! :o

Do not be discouraged, Rossman. The enemies are intentionally difficult -- and become increasingly difficult as you get further away from the Sirius Sector. The Inner Core is really intended to be traveled with escorts (MP). You can do it, solo, in your BullpupMk3, but expect to run more often than you fight!

Also, after a trip through the Inner Core, the Coaliton Rogues seem far less scary. ;)

PS: Get the best armor and shield upgrades that you can. Earth, Nephele, and Planet Crossfire are good places to shop.

He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day.

  • i have found he coalition rogues tough cookies but can still be eaten depends on your tactics, and i do use hit and run by firing on leader with c/d or missile then actually attack the flank instead then after that roll up behind them atleast you have split them up then you keep moving. if they start to get on top of me i thrust away far enough then swing back with effect of long range guns . i have had coalition rogues in missions and barely got out with succeding the mission but badly knocked around so i will avoid them unless they attack.

the only ones i have still to beat is dk,s in battle i mean so i keep them as friends after paying the ancients a visit every now and then lol

  • Saracen cant mount 6 lvl10 weps 4 lvl10 and 2lvl 9.
    i suggest u but a cyclone.
Go to sirius and mount a 100% armor boost.
B4 that go to tomsk an get the cactalysm and nemesis missile launchers and and get the hell outa Altair(please but coal gatts b4 u go to tomsk).
Or mount them on your way to sirius( u cant buy the ammo in Altair)
In sirius, get the ammo and go to hiruga and get the shield.
Go to altair and fry them(u still may face difficluty when u fight coal rouges).
I have heard that there is an agile version of the bullpup, which one is that?
    Dk gunboats dont give anything.
    But maybe the fighters do.

    meh.

  • Here are the locations, last Hellraiser's post is a bit wrong.

    |DP|Shock · |DP|Shockwave · |DP|Skyfall · |DP|Red.Dwarf

  • I can confirm that base rep with Colaition Rogues is a white field (but only very close to red :D )

  • Ok, thanx.

I/ll fly around a bit in Sirius, still havent visited all the planets yet throught the x system. Several gates are still open for me to discover. I'll get what I can, got 2 Gattlings of Murmansk.
I'll do some Outcast missions and get a good fighter. Then I'll return and finisch the story.

Perhaps later I'll see how MP works for me. Thanks again for the help...

  • I first encountered coalition Rogues at the mooring dock outside Planet Murmansk. They were all hostile, and caught me completely by surprise. I didn't expect any criminals in Coalition space. I did notice that they pilot similar ships to Coalition fighters but they seem to be able to mount (6X) level 10 coal gatts while we can only mount 4 on all the fighters I've found so far. They were hostile from my first encounter so I just figured they were on the DK's or the Mad's side. What and where is the cyclone ship you mentioned HellRaiser?

  • I dont really remember but i think it was on the

Or its in one of the systems surrounding that system.
That system is a little dark and has a reddish hue to the background and the base has something like wired hanging around it and is shaped like a tee that is used for golf only that it is pionted upwards too.
Well thats all i can remember.
Try exploring in the systems surrouding the system whith the HQ.

    meh.

  • Well, just explore it all and see it by yourself ^^ You have more fun this way...

  • I thought I would take on a Mission against the Coalition Rogues...What a MISTAKE. At first, I used some good tactics to fend off the first wave. then help arrives from the military, but they are soon destroyed by the Rogues. This leaves me alone to fight the second wave, and I never survive. I truly believe these missions in coalition space are for MP play, because there are so many enemy fighters to kill, it makes it quite impossible to take on by yourself. There is an eerie and strange feeling when you get killed...even more so with the music that plays when you die.

  • 2uncleglennie:
Hi, I can assure you, that C.Rogues are beatable in solo missions. ..I do many mission (50+) with my first char in MP (untagged) and it is a matter tactics, maneuvering and quick using nano/shield if needed.I do this mission even before I acquire guns from IC (use C.gatlings). ... this Missions was first, where I must learn use tricks with engine kill :D . After first encounter with this NPCs (when I was quickly killed :D) , I did in-depth searching SWAT forum about maneuvering, ship choice, equipment and how survive hard combat (Advice for Beginners).
