Single Player Difficulty

  • Hell there, I was just wondering if editing the prefoptions.ini to make the game easier would work in single player crossfire. I love this mod, by far and away the best FL mod out there... but it is just waaay to difficult for me. I did some reading in this was the best option I found for setting the difficulty of the game. If it does work... what exactly are the effects? It sound like enemy does less damage to you? But do you do more damage to them? Will the AI still use nanos and batteries? I think being able to survive in this mod in SP mode would add alot of depth to the game.

The main effect is that you will be handicapped when you reach the MP mode, because unless you are already fighting Dom K'vash ships in SP, you will be at a significant disadvantage in MP when you actually encounter the tough NPC's and other players. Best thing is to search these forums for tips on how to improve your combat skills, so you can kill NPC's with no problem. Dom K'vash ships present a strong challenge to even the most seasoned CF players, and the really good human players are even tougher!

  • Its a bit difficult for the start, with the normal CF level... I mean did anyone try doing missions with a starflyer??
The npc´s regen much faster than you damage them :D:D:D
But you can trade, to get a better ship, and then, believe me, its much more fun with the strong npc´s. Its just more realictic... I tried vanilla FL after playing on CF... maan thats just BORING.
The original AI is not a challenge, its food.
And about Dom´s, they are not as strong as you think
They have a very weak spot... if you find it, you will take them down with no scratch on your paint job 8)

  • u start CF with 200 000 credit's make use of them, look for a better ship once you start, you can fight any vannila NPC with an hammer head, so I recomend you go directly to Kusary and take a Dragon or a Barracuda, in a short time you will have money for an Hammer head, more then enough to kill a DK gunboat.

  • Thanks for the advice. I stated in another thread why I was not playing MP crossfire suffice to say that it would burn to much of my available time. YEs... the AI for vanilla FL is food and I had not thought about the difficulty of an advanced AI in a starflier. It would be cool to start the SP mode with 200,000 credits ;-p. I guess I'll have to suffer until I can afford a better ship in SP mode or someone convinces me to play multiplayer... perhaps when 1.8 comes out.... but I'll try very hard to resist the urge.

I would have to agree with spending over 12 hours game time in this mod I find it totally unbalanced.

The missions in single player are not even worth the effort, the amount of missles and nanonbots - sheilds alone outweighs the doing them, it costs you more to do a mission than to complete it, what is the point.

The AI/NPC ships are way over powered, you spend 15 minutes killing 3 ships and 3 more show up, all have maxed out nanobots and sheild restore, and when you loot them you receive more, how is this possible? Since you can not store these in the cargo hold for transport.

Doing the single player mission has become to burdomesome.

I think the work done is awesome, so please do not get me wrong, but if this mod is not intended for single player mission/story then I will gladly go away.

  • It does pay off to do missions in SP. Just get jump access from Juni after mission 2, and sell the Escape Pods on LPI Huntsville or any other prison for a profit...

Assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

Being a Cynic isn't that bad. Either I'm right or I am pleasantly surprised.

  • btw this mod is mostly for players who want extra challenge & adrenalin from those stupid original FL NPCs that are simply SOOO weak & boring...

So you are accustomed to other mods; welcome to the first one that is actually balanced. 12 hours is far too little to even attempt such an assessment, especially since you have not worked up to a better ship. Even in SP, the balance of the player's ship vs. NPC's is adequate to prepare the new player for the high performance level of CF in general.

Another difference in the mod is all; bat's & 'bots do not take up cargo space, but have their own ship-specific limits, as do all types of ammo. The number of ships you have to kill on a mission is directly indexed to the difficulty rating of the mission, and this holds true right up to mission lvl 43. Again, all this is intended to acclimatise the new player to the CF environment, and once you get thru the SP version, you should have enough familiarity with the mod to get off to a good start in MP... BTW, you will later find that there are missions that even experienced pilots need to work at, since some NPC's have up to 5 lvl 10 guns each

  • i cant see why the npcs are overpowered
i never had any problems with them but lets look at the vanilla FL

there the npcs fly the same ships like human players
but they are not allowed to use the same powerfull shields like the human players
they are not allowed to have shields which reload like the shields for human players
they are not allowed to use nanobots or batteries like human players
and the npcs are stupid like bread
you call this ballanced or realistic?

Crossfire brings NPCs closer to human opponents by allowing NPCs to do what a normal player is also able to do
and that is realism and pure balance

  • Hi, i just started playing Crossfire a couple days ago. I have tried to play MP but i kept getting a "update not found" error and gave up. I like the mod a lot, great visual, new effects. It's by far the neatest out there.

But it takes me forever to go through a couple missions. I have to agree with blackfirefox that when you start, and you have to spend 15 minutesat least) on 3 ships, then more of them, it gets very irritating. And once you managed kill those, you're directly going to another battle. No buying more missiles. It takes forever. The rogues and such recharge the nanos and batteries way too much and with those justice mk1 there's no way to kill em.

I'll start reading the forums a lot and trying to find ways to improve my skills. I only hope i find something drastic that helps me out. Cause i would like to keep playing this mod. But as much as i want that, it gets very boring and i'm not a guy who can spend 16 hours a day on this.

Other than that, great job guys!

  • so far i found only some real tough things

Getting secure out of death valley (******* was kinda obvious, should have looked there earlier). Is there any use for that datadisk besides giving me 9 million? (do i get the news back? or is that a bug?)

Finding Coalition bases, any hint where those are? i have both blackboxes i flew through the nebulas watching my scanner, i dont find anything :( (im not patient enough to spent this hours fending my ass against dk and nomads in another system)

Where do i get the adv. Champion shield?

Are there more subsystems to find? i have the powergen, shield, armor, thruster, tractor and scanner, according to readme theres a lot more but i dont seem to be able to buy them

so far nice mod and might enter mp soon with a friend
are there any clans who use teamspeak or ventrillo or equal?

whats the matter anyways with the bullpup? its inagile and slow, i rather beg for the shroud, thats one hell of a dancer

oh yes why do i need to reinstall when i deactivate the videos?

thanks for your advice m8. Adding to what i read somewhere about a hidden system that i found, i got me a better ship and i'm keeping up. I'm really enjoying it now! The start off was a bitch tho :P

  • I'm having an issue where in 1.8 SP, i'm on the second, maybe third mission, where you find the rogue outpost in the cloud, theres about 8 fighters and 2 weapons platforms.

I'm not new to crossfire or Freelancer, I play once in a while, every other year. I can say, however, that this part of this mission, I've tried about 12 times already, I die because those ships are firing about 6 weapons each at me and my one starmate. It only takes about 2 min for me to die, and it's just way to hard. For the second.third mission, thats ridiculous.

That said, Vanilla FL is WAYYY too easy for me.

Is there any way I can modify the difficulty setting for Crossfire? or anything anyone can suggest to not have them all shoot 2938478923423 lasers at me at once?
