would really support the idea to have just one single ship... that makes the game more realistic and RP more important

But as burro said: that would heavily affect the amount of players online. And it would make the game more boring. But well - who does give a damn? [6]

Assumption is the mother of all fuckups.

Being a Cynic isn't that bad. Either I'm right or I am pleasantly surprised.

  • Er - its not what you have - but what you do with it that counts.

But there should be no harm trialling using one ship for a week or something to see what people think and even if people can change their minds.

Also - I think there are many ways around this and then we will prob see a few posts saying whats his face used more than one ship complaints.

  • If we want the online numbers to drop further we should try of course  .

  • The RP of multiple chars (both online at once or from one account to another) can easily be explained as the player representing multiple pilots. One person can't be in two different places, but if one person represents a squadron rather than an individual the player can achieve much more. Gunny, OP, is this some kind of sick joke? There's absolutely no logic whatsoever in supporting this. This kind of punishment to players will have negative impacts that heavily outweigh the good for most people on the server.

If I had to use only one char the result would be:

    1. Break alliances with CFPD and BG due to inability to defend their clanspace from intruders.

    2. Stop attending events because it would draw my ship too far from SoS to be able to defend it in a timely manner.

    3. I can't trade in a VHF, and none of my clanmates will want to ONLY fly a soulforge, so that means PvP must be avoided whenever I can't kill enough NPCs and sell pods to cover costs (in other words, RP is dead).

    4. My clan would consist of 3 ships total, and with two of them not in my clansystem UAC would lose it's ability to do anything cooperatively.

    5. This would lead to an incredibly dull, boring time and within a few days I'd feel inclined to go FL so I wouldn't be burdened with babysitting my clanspace.

How absurd is it that this kind of post even needs to be made to defend a status-quo that's been in place for years? People did a lot of trading so that they wouldn't have to be limited to one ship. The only things I've ever seen on this forum more rediculous than this were DS's spamming rants and the proposal a month or so back to do an intentional charwipe.

  • Well there is nothing stopping those people who think its a good idea to put their views into practise and show the nay sayers how it was done in the old days when you only had one ship.

I think OP could easily try and enforce it by restricting the chars to one per account, but yeah tehre are ways around it too.

I can't say if its good or bad - I would try it and see what I think.

Having only one ship would require more planning, more cooperation, maybe a degree of specialisation within a clan, elevate the status of people that just like to trade etc

It could be more fun and make things more interesting

Let's not be a bunch of conservatives and old women :-)

Just cos u cant enforce an instant reaction to system invasions does not mean the perp gets away - punishment and retribution is often given well past the date and place of the crime :-)

  • restrictions are usually needed when too many people go way out of the line in the status quo. I dont really see that happening here. Why should we restrict the fun of the majority of the player when there is no real need for it? Just because 'it sounds like a good idea' and some people might want to try it doesnt mean that this is in the interest of an healthy community.

If this rule is about to be enforced there will only be arena chars left and the players of them will leave as soon as all the $ is wasted in ammo.

  • If you want to fly just one ship then do so.
I wont have it enforced on me and I doubt that most of the server does either.

If I am forced to fly just one ship I will take either :

  • Oh god

one char per account - i cant believe what i read here.
This is no substitute, so leave this thoughts.

wtf - m8s why you always want more rules - better you play chess *headshaking*

play the game, leave such stupid discussions instead.

  • no joke
im playing with that idea since the first release of CF but didnt turn in into reality due to the players

but that doesnt mean that just one ship per account is a bad idea

    1. you are forced to do RP in the way it is supposed to be... no excuses anymore

    2. no F1 use anymore

    3. no jumping between system to escape fights

    4. no jumps into fights

    5. more RP

    6. more teamplay

    7. more realism

    8. the gameplay would be more interesting and challenging since you cant protect your own system... attack another and trade at almost the same time
FL life would get more risky and new strategies and more playing with other players instead alone would be needed

    9. when you want to trade then buy a trader and make money... when you want to fight then buy a fighter... there is no need for thousands of stored ships
and dont tell me that you might loose money by switching from trader to fighter and back... you guys are billionairs and you dont know what to do with all your money

    10. you mainly sit around not knowing what to do... while all the previous points i have posted lead to more and longer gameplay...

    11. that you have choosen SoS as your system is your problem in the end
all you guys changed the systems before even knowing what i was going to add and change in CF1.8 so your position on the server might get better or worse ... who knows

    12. a clan should be able to defend its own system
if you cant you better should think about how strong your clan is

    13. no stupid KOS anymore

    14. ppl would think twice before they do shit to others

    15. i dont need 5 ships... i need only one... i start the game... make enough money so i can by a good fighter... the equipment and some weapons... then i make a bit more money so i can afford repairs and missiles
    what else do i need?
    nothing

  • i had thought that multichar logic is not much of a logic then i first started this game, but i disagreed with myself very soon, especially when i got into rps and clan membership.

multichar logic gives us freedom in planning our free time and how we spend it on cf. as many have already said, it would b dull, boring and will takes us much more time to play cf using onechar logic, which i do not doubt will get number of online players smaller very soon. and it may have impact on rps imo we will not be able to deal with.

onechar logic could be useful if we had enormous community, but op can confirm that there is no more that twenty players online anytime, so we don't have it. it would require at least a full server, or maybe more, to make game not suffer consequences of onechar rules i stated up.

i do think that onechar logic could help in a overcoming idea of single rp clans (which i don't like much, smuggling should b free to both mercs, pirates and freelancers, as it's quite natural for a pirate, a mercernary and a freelancer to smuggle; cops on the other way should not do it, their rp is full of jobs already catching both pirates and smugglers and fighting mercs), and it may bring up the value of smuggling rp and clans. still i consider these benefits as a trade off to consequences that might arrive as soon as we impose such a rule.

at the end, we could try it out, and test it, it might work well, but before such a rule is implemented for testing we should all agree for a test run, or ppl will be angry and in no doubt i consider problems will arrive.

for the sake of what i think, we dnt need a singlechar rule, and it will just makes us all more bored with the game.

plz, ppl, consider ur desicion on this issue a quite important one. u all see that op is split opinion, so we might all get ourselves behind a closed door.

    i vote no.

  • agree on goodone

agree to no single char mode on CF - its worthless, sorry OP ;D

  • Well, I'll maintain my fleet of ships, but then, I have never used them in the way Privvy is arguing against. When I come online, irrespective of which of my (2) accounts I am using, my plan for the day is usually something like this:

    1. Any of my clanmates need any help?

    2. Are there any filthy rich trades today? (Since I am principally a trader/smuggler, I want to know where to take my freighters).

    3. No fat trades? ;( Which of my fighters needs more kills the most? (Becoming less important, if the global serverstats also go offline next year). Or, which of my characters is the poorest? Let's go get some mining/salvage/smuggling/mission credits.

    4. Which character needs more system mapping, or has not salvaged some DKA's or blackboxes? (Now we are getting to some more interesting challenges...).

    5. Any pirates online I can hunt, or police I can taunt?

    6. Any events?

I cannot imagine not having something to do online, with respect to one's role-play, if using this type of outlook. I should point out, also, that I rarely use more than 2 or 3 ships in the course of a night, simply because it takes too long to move ships around for something "quick" like bounty hunting. I would rather be occupied doing something constructive, than chasing someone from 5 systems away, only to have them switch char's when I finally get close [2]

Honestly, despite all the whining & complaining (including my own, at first), nothing guarantees better action than the ASF/CSF RP, because it is unambiguous and direct. Too bad most of the players left here don't have the stones to just play it out, and accept the hazards of universal combat (which is the greatest realism of all).

  • Bah, well the reality is what would I do? Leave? That'd be even more of a joke - no matter how strict the rules become CF is CF. I'll go along with whatever ends up being forced on the rest of us, but if it's going to happen at least give us a few weeks' notice so we can scrap our chars instead of have them deleted - that at least so I can rebuild a clan RP more fitting for this scenario (poor logistics, lone-wolf combat, and without any of the fancy CPFD-UAC RPs). :O

I suppose by the way if we're going for realism we should also require players to set their reps friendly towards factions that are friendly to their RP and those that are hostile to hostile? If you're going this far why not go all the way? Imao that's a much bigger problem towards gameplay realism than how many ships a player has (c'mon, pirates docking at prisons? police taking the junkers' bribe? naaaah!). :P

  • The short answer is cheating is when you break one of the posted server rules. If something isn't forbidden in the server rules it isn't cheating. It's as simple as that.

Simba: a good point, but unfortunately undermined by the fact that in the last week I've been the same way as Tyrael, too. :P

Ah-yea that's exactly it! So why continuing discuss it. There are rules (simple one). That what is not in the rules is undefined - you can do whatever you want with it, be happy, get angry...
I stay at my decision, if you need more rules than play chess. The wealth of the variety should not be destroyed by the wealth of the minority.

lol - and now think about it ;D

  • Well, my logic for earlier in the week was that I was working, and at the present it's the fact that there is no point in being serverside progressing characters if they're going to need to be destroyed later on. On the other hand, since most people are thinking about this the way Huor is maybe I should stop paying attention to something that isn't going to happen and just go back to playing? Lol, what an amazing thought! :D
