    if there is going to be a cloaking device there should also be an anti-claoking weapon/device. Like a CruiseDisruptor but then a CloakDisruptor. Some could think a CloakDisruptor would make de CloakDevice superfluous, but if you make the turn rate about 6.00 / 7.00 you have the shoot in the direction of the ship which you dont always know


    If the cloak actually hides the ship, then what would you shoot at? What would the missile use as a trigger for detonation? It would have nothing to track, unless the pilot was lucky enough to shoot it in the right direction just as the cloak time runs out, in which case, it would be unnecessary...


    It would be intersesting if the cloak could be "solar-powered", so that it does not drain so much energy when in a well-lit system, but would require dedicated energy in a dark system. The cloak would have to work harder in the brighter system anyway, so it seems a logical approach. As an engineer, this seems an elegant solution, but since I'm not a modder, I can only imagine that the coding would be problematic. :(

  • Hello guys, long time no see.


    I had tested cloak in the past and cloaking in freelancer, due code limitations, is stupid. I would only consider cloak if it were like Earth & Beyond and especially StarLancer style combination.


    1.- Blur Effect
    2.- time to cloak and decloak
    3.- Fuel for cloaking
    4.- Unable to fire under cloak
    5.- Damagable device


    And since there have not been a way to do that indeed is a cheat and it will take some coding twik to change that.

  • It would be cool if the cloaked ones could see other cloaked ones... But uncloaked ones could see only the uncloaked ones... (like a semi-other-dimension-thing)


    And if you shoot a cloaked one with a "anti-cloak missile" or something like that, so the cloaked one gets uncloaked


    And there could be a "cloak missile": when it hits the target, the target becomes cloaked for a period of time...

  • I think that any type of cloaking device would be awesome. If I had a say in what choice you should use OP I think that it should be the choice that suits your needs the best. Not only that but it is a lot nicer when the code is easy to write, the closest I've gotten to writing code is some semi-complex java programs which in my opinion are simple compared to this stuff...not that I've ever really tried modding. Anyways the point is whatever you can do, I will be grateful for it.

  • It would be cool if cloak would be avaible for SP/OpenSP too. And if it had a customisable hotkey (in CONTROLS menu) to activate/deactivate it...

    Ok about Cloaking D... Why don't make it to use from the energy of the weaps...while u r cloaked to get from ur energy slowly....But not very slow as the radiation dmg on ur hull...

    Well, it could be that someone bumps an "old" thread where the decision was made some weeks ago ;)


    And to know whats going on with this cloaking device - just read the whole thread you are posting in ;)


    As a hint - will someone rewrite this "cheat" for CF? If yes he should speak with OP - if no its only a "nice" to have feature not more and not less ;)

  • mmk well this one ruins the /cloak cmd and it would still have the planet and sun bug


    you should make the cloaking device a shield and when the shields mounted your automaticly cloaked. and like sheild batterys could be this "cloak energy" but the shield always runs out of energy and you use the shield batteries to recharge it. Also the player could keep thier regular shield in thier invintory and swap them at planets and stations. that would make it so only advanced charecters can have them (because if your blown up you loose your 7mill shield)
    if it doesnt make sense just ask me ill try to make it more clear if you dont get it.....

    I think you are not getting it at all friend. OP does not want this feature only to be a toy of the Rich people; Instead he wants that even new players should be able to use it as they are the ones that mostly need to run or hide. :)

    coz the fuel will cost money so the use will cost

  • Yea sure, but why only the rich one must be able to buy it, all must have access to it, and what fuel ?? Lets decloak automaticly after 10 mins or so ??
