it doesnt appear to be any sort of good system defense and the only thing it appears to have an effect on, is the traveling time between the NY and X3043 jgs.

I recall an incident when the minefield was really usefull, a bugger with speedmod, if i didnt got in time before its cruisse he was unstoppable to me, but not to the minefield, because the extreme speedmod he just was smashing his brains on it for a while

I would've made it like the Alaska gate in New York, where ya got the gate inside a minefield with only one way out, that would present a better way to fortify your system.

Btw I saw in 1.5 that the AI controlled ships just blowing up every 10 seconds trying a route through the minefield.
