Ok it seems a lot of ppl are misunderstanding the reason for PiAs change of role let me clear a few things up. The first thing i want to make clear that it is not a moral judgment and its not the darkside its for fun if you fully analyze the modern social impact of smugglers you notice a few interesting facts for example how many ppl buy "cheap cigarettes" or cheap alcoholic drink? most of these items in our modern day and age are smuggled because of tax reasons. The second thing i want to make clear is that if someone with the role play authority tries to stop us we may well fight it out or try to run but that's the entire point of it and and except for the fight at the time there will be further consequences i trust my fellow clan members are mature enough ti think "damn they wont catch me next time!!". The final thing is that we do this for FUN that means that if the BG chase down one of our freighters full of illegal items i feel damn good about that because it has encouraged another clan to play their role if a pirate decides he wants a piece of our illegal cargo or legal cargo that's good to we have encouraged him to play his role and if we fight at that time over the act that's cool to as long as it never degenerates into a petty feud because why else do we have guns on our ships? Th events are fun and entertaining also when friends get together in arena or outside planet crossfire for pvp but i know most people here are crying out for more action so lets have some fun RP on other servers and other MP games work so lets make it work here, but i'm not so naive to not realise that a few ppl may sometimes seek to spoil others fun but ppl will soon realize who those individuals are

Ok maybe i worded my post wrong for the message i was tryiing to present. We are not trying to be criminals. We are not wanting to smuggle for a way to make lots of money or to cause war between clans. We are offering an option of role play to get the fun going again. We as clans in the server are trying to decide what roles we can play to inject life and interest into the game. FOR EXAMPLE: BG is a police clan. Everyone knows it. They scan and try to cath people carrying contriband. Should i be scaned so what. If im carrying toliet paper in my ship i have no worries. If im carring nuke Bomb Parts... then im expecting BG to be looking for me or anyone else who may be doing it. IM INVITING them to play the role. If the catch me..im caught. If i choose to run..then they have the RIGHT to stop me with what force they choose. It is the role they play. I INVITE LP to hunt me down and try to take me out. If i get away im good. If not then they got me dead to rights and im atoms in the wind and they got the cargo whatever it is. That is the role they play. I make no retaliantions. I dont get the pack together and hunt them down. Why? Because they did what they are supose to do while playing the role. We are trying to stimulate action, fun, excitement into the server. Not get mad when we are caught up in the action. If Ronin take a police position it goes the same for them, the roles are not completely hammered out yet. when they are...let the games begin. That is what the aim is. Not war. Not retaliation. Not missunderstandings. FUN!!! is the key word here. I hope this clearifys things. Have fun..good hunting. see u n the server.

Reading all the animated posts i have some proposals:
1. Mercenaries are good of bad, depends of the historical period or culture ( In the dark ages the Swiss where most wanted mercenaries and in feodal Japan Ninjas where also to hired !) So we have to decide what they will be in CF ! :]
2. Smugglers need to trade with great profit because of the great risk ( both pirates and police ) so can we make 1 or 2 stations ( far away ) where only SMUGGLERS can cash their contraband at very high rate ( for a longer route, of course ) ? ( OP ? )
3. Traders must also have a few good ( but long & risky) routes so they can become a good prey for pirates and some freelancers. ( also OP )
4. BG and Order minded clan should act more as police: enforcing the law, defending attacked innocents, arresting smugglers, capturing/killing pirates attacking ships.
5. Mercenaries, in my mind, may be used to escort convoys of traders or to execute a special order ( KOS, contract, ... )
6. I any case, you may not blame a pirate to attack ppl, nor smugglers to try to sell illegal stuff, so nobody, nor any clan may place an individual on a KOS list for such a reason !
7. Nor may police arrest/kill a smuggler or pirate without reason but only if he commits a 'crime' and then only for the duration of the day ( so the police/bounty hunters can make some poursuit !)
8. I can also suggest that the police will intercept a group of 3 or more pirates ( with pirate license ) travelling together. Sort of preventing 'crimes' !
All this is subject to discussion, of course, i'm only the pianist !

Making the server run too much on roleplay and players will get bogged down in fights and wars just that they may not want to pursue.
It is better to have a relatively free game. -
i agree with Morti Shun. if there is too much role-play going on, new freelancers might get caght in the middle of things and get hurt, this can cause problems. there should be designated times of when roleplay is going on and when it is not. this should avoid any mix-ups or hostilities between ppl.

New pol and DarkJedi have some points, but i believe it will make a relatively simple endevore more complicated.
1st. This is not about the money that can be made.its about the adventure of trying to make what u can.
2nd. We are using the server AS IS. All it means is we have to find all the junmholes and learn which ones work to our advantage or not in a given situation. Also it means we use the faction bases such as Rodchester, Bouemont, Alcatraz..as advantagiously as possible. If u keep most of the crimial factions nuetral...then u have a lot of bases...hidey holes..and places to selll stuff..all around sirius. Just have to finde where they are.
3rd. The server gets laggy as it is...adding a not of new systems or rolespecific bases and such may not help matters. And it doesnt change the base of the roleplay agenda anyway.
4th. As for New Freelancers not getting a fair shake. Simple solution. IF U NOT INVOLVED IN ROLPLAY DO NOT PURCHASE A LICENSE. Further more anyone below Rank 50 should be off limits to any attack by anyone, and if they above 50 MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A LICENSE WHEN U MAKE YOUR SCAN! This should help prevent any non roleplay attacks.
Remember...this is for the fun of the game. Not to create wars. Not to make retaliations when u get caught with the bad goods. Or if u are able to kill a police and get away. it is all part of the game. Eveyone knows that if a train is cought in the cross hairs of a figher...it is dead meat unless that pilot has the luck of the little people to pull his buns out of the fire and allow him to escape. If such person is cought while he in a fighter himself...it is just as possible the police factions will be the ones left as atoms in the wind. This is the nature of the game. If the train gets caught..so what..if the police has a bad day with a pirate in a good fighter...so what. Luck of the draw. No wars, no retaliation, no witch hunts. Each played thier role and an outcome was achieved. Until next time...lol. Have fun. Good hunting.. se ya in the sever.

Chaseman and NewPol Say it pretty well....So it looks like there is still room for Freelancers and RP...right?.....as for Special bases....don't create a new system.....just take one that already exist and convert it to the specific needs....And definatly put time l;imit on crimes and such, as outlined or simular......personaly I'm not sure I'm into Role Playing.....but then I guess that's what we're doing right now, to lesser degrees...huh?

Very interesting debat.
I think that the way Chassman is opening is a reflexion path.
Let the newbies make their own experiences and discover. Whan they reach a certain level make them clear that if they are buying any licence they will be involved in RP...And please, let the rules as simple as possible, we are here for fun !
Crossfire is a wonderfull universe, so trying to keep it alive and kicking must be our task as player.

smugglers are even harder then being pirate becouse the trades are not profitteble you cant earn ennouff.
so there is no risk iff i tax ppl they rather die and leave cargo then pay tax its allot cheaper.
most off the clans dont need any money any more and i think its not good for the server.
i loved it when they all where att sigma and they all where after me.
then there was trading becouse ppl needed it.
we play our role to the end but even we need some kind off income.
and we dont get it from taxes lol [1]

i didnt read everything above, so sry when i repeat sth.
what i suggest:
1) CSF/ASF: have bad reps to each other -> will kill them on sight (when they scan and can find ASF or CSF licence)
2) pirates/police:
a) bad reps like CSF/ASF or
b) police force them to dorp illigal cargo. if they dont, the will hunt them.
illigal cargo:
- cardamine
- secret plans (or what it is called)
- whiskey from custo (BGs should kill everybody, if they see them with whiskey)3) traders - pirates:
pirates can force traders to tax. if they dont - they will shoot. -

Again with the whiskey ban? Last I knew, there was no embargo on leaving Custo with ANY type of cargo... did I miss a thread on that?? Can't a pilot take home a little private reserve for the post-mission nightcap?[prost]

As for piracy, well the pirates can go for it, but don't expect everyone to play along. If this role is overplayed, the way some rogues are doing it, the whole system will become too adversarial for many players, who will just leave, to find friendlier stars elsewhere. I don't really expect this to be a concern to the parasitic elements in the game, but it is something for the rest of us to keep in mind. I for one will not take actions that will encourage piracy, like paying "tax" (which is really just extortion). If I'm not a good enough fighter to beat them in space. so be it, I'll get killed, but won't lose any of my hard-earned cash.
If anyone gets fed up being extorted, and wants an escort, I'm available, and my skills WILL improve...

i got sugestion .. maybe there be the bounty for players >>??? ( somebody ) give ( maybe 1000.000.) for head ( somebody) ???? like in real life but the "specials" bountys
like asssination be given by pirates players or ather "dark side " players and the bountys on pirates or criminals heads be given by police or military .. and when u got the any license u are role play and your clan membership cannot be
involved in this ..... but the bountys must be given on heads of rp players not on enemy clan member (couse i dont like him .. or something like this )police give bountys for pirates
pirates give bountys for policeand we be have clasic thief vs police good vs evill
dark vs light ....and there should be the real pirate clan and this cla should be in peace with the maybe liberty rogues or outcast ... or other criminal faction

If you dont mind, Id like to revisit one of the original subjects of this thread. Several people posted words suggesting that Mercs are illegal in the nature of their work. This I would have to argue. As a mercenary accepts any kind of work for the right pay, one must realize that the individual merc is the one who decides which jobs to take. Some mercenaries take bounties and act as hit men, while others arent all that different from CFPD. Some play both sides (which is much more fun), doing whatever they feel like at a given moment. I guess what Im trying to say is that while most mercs tend to participate in illegal activities, there are some who do not. Because of the striking similarities between mercs and freelancers, you have to judge the individual, not the clan or RP category in general. Read the quote in Darkstalker's signiture, it applies. Just my thoughts
And marcusdavidus, I believe there are a number of bounties placed on peoples heads already. Theres a thread somewhere around here where you can post your offers and find targets. If the reward is high enough, players end up ganging up on someone like an angry mob. Its actually rather entertaining .
