Fights go to long

  • Hi,
I have just returned to try out 2.0.
I have the same issue that I had when I last tried the crossfire mod.
That being the fights go way to long.
I just stared a new toon, completed the s/l missions (the first 2 or whatever until you have to go earn some credits on your own).
Then took my first job, a bounty type mission with difficulty on easy (not god mode)
I didn't die (it was kinda close because there where 6 or 7 enemies) but it just took forever. literally my mouse arm is sore & there is a pool of sweat beneath it.
It makes the game boring & makes me not want to play.
If you want to give enemy pilots the ability to recover hull damage & repair shields, then do that at high levels, but this is a new character, these enemy ships should die relatively quickly & easily.
feel free to call me an unskilled noob & to F off, but I have played this type of game a reasonable amount (including wing commander, privateer, Freelancer, starlancer etc etc), the fact is, this hurts new players.
    just my suggestion.

A quick google search turned up this, i'll give it a go now, but yeah apparently this bugs a lot of people.

  • Hello Nads,

gave you try to look here: https://swat-portal.com/forum/…i/crossfire/combatguides/ ?

Trying combine guns with heavy damage and rapid fire can sort out initial enemies pretty fast. You have also in New York relative cheap light fighter which easily can pass whole vanilla part. I understand your view, but as was already said more times, with every new mod release was reduced its difficulty. It is still hard, but it was not meant like "easy go in, fast pass through". We also more times heard that it is too hard, but we also experienced in many cases that players were able very fast adapt on mod difficulty if they try use different approach and learn new things. This learning speed was usually doubled if player joined us in multiplayer. This mod was developed for community here and we like challenge. I understand that this is not "modern" these days ;) ... but we like it have the way like it is done.

  • the fights are good the way they are
if you have problems then for gods sake use the money from the start to buy some better weapons or better ships
    seriously
i have lowered the difficulty with every version already
if i lower it even more the npcs will explode wihout being shot at.... really its easy

it also wouldnt hurt if you take a look at the combat guides

Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

when i first started playing this mod and like all have experienced other mods too, yep first impression was it,s hard to get going, bugger this but as always the adrenalin kicks in and tried different ways and success began and so the thrill to keep going. getting further out to other systems i was hooked and never looked back.
thanks to the creative mind of the team saw too the many years of the mod and each new version, so i say boring it,s definately NOT. and sore arm to keep going.the fighting to hard no it,s not it,s your ability to learn. don,t be so quick to give up and on here WE DON,T TELL PILOTS TO F/OFF.

  • I was in no way suggesting the game is boring, just the long fights,
I bought the light fighter & outfitted it. the guns simply don't do adequate damage so the fight took forever.
I have now switched to the Defender heavy fighter & removed the nano bots etc from enemies, their shields still regen as normal so it's still not "easy"
however this has helped a huge amount. If I find the fights are getting too easy then I can always turn the nano bots etc back on.
I am not suggesting you make the entire game easier, potentially just the enemy fighters in the starter system, or maybe the lowest level of enemy fighters.
potentially even reducing the number of fighters that appear on level 1 missions. (8 enemies on a level 1 mission seams a little odd anyway)
The fact is, if it takes 30 minutes or more to complete 1 dogfight, people will quit before they give it a chance.
I understand many of you like it like this, but clearly many don't.
Changing the very early parts of the game wont hurt you in any way, but it will help others.
    cheers.

  • nads: It will not happen and is at least 2 simple reasons. 1) Player need want to learn and try what we suggest. I used for early mission the same ship which use King (with high hull damage guns from Manhattan) and it works very good (ofc with rapid fire). You do exactly opposite, you change game content to be playable for you without trying your approach. This ofc can't give good outcome with later fights and i not talk about multiplayer ...
    2) changes which you ask can work only for mission spawned npcs, will not work of these normally spawned, bcs they are the same like in multiplayer.

you say: change things bcs ...
we say: try this and try learn this
you say: No, I have altered things to play 'my way'.

And I want add one more thing. While we started test SP many months back, then it was rly hard bcs your allies had very poor equip and all fighting was on you. This was changed and now your allies use much better equipment and take good amount of fighting. this can be applied for almost whole sp and we already had some feedback that was expected 'higher difficulty' (luckily this can solve difficulty slider)

i remember i did not buy anything in n/y till i had a look whats what and then bought a defender from b/s and mounted vengence mk4 and beat the crap out of the bloodhounds and sold pods in texas. then got the bounty out of the two wrecks there and on it all went.

  • (note to myself: add info to starting guide)

  • @nads
if you think the fights are long ... ever tried Big Daddys Storyline Mod ?
THERE the fights are REALLY looong, even if you think yourself "seasoned". :D

Compared to that the CF SP missions as well as the at the bars offered missions are
    EASY PEASY !
I admit that the in-between fighting (pod collecting) can be ... hard if staying to standard
ship and equipment from Manhatten, but the campaign missions ... mainly all you have to
do is trying not to be shot - beside "rescuing Beta 4" where you should be quick to shoot down
the "right Liberty Rogue" (the one chasing Beta 4).(counts for the bigger part of all missions)
The rest will be done by your "comrades" givin' to you by the game. And the Starflier IS THE
most agile ship at all. Should be easy.

Crossfire is NOT made to be an quick, in-between-just-kill-100+npcs as an "anti-frustration" pill.
It is a still mild preparation for MP, but fun in its own rights therefore challanging.

My setup for the first missions
    Starflier with lavalblades :D

  • Nads get some input from kermit.

I can imagine if you just start with the starting ship and mk I guns this can be very hard.
What you should learn from this is that better guns do more damage :)

Get a Defender and better guns and will be better.
Advanced hint: When you have your first "break" in story line to make money for the next level, go to texas for missions ( SAVE THE PODS and sell them at the LPI there, gets you lots of money).Do this until you have 1,000,000 and then search the jumphole in New York to Custodian. Buy there an Eagle/Sabre/Titan ( depending on your likes) and be much easier for the next missions.Note: Buying at this stage a 8-10 million ship does not pay off, you will pretty soon have to change your ship in the story line. Stay tuned.

PS: We had a similar thread recently, you will find there for sure also valuable tipps:
New to CF, CrossFire 2.0 is awesome. Love it! but its kicking my ass

Be assured, game is challenging but very nicely levelled out. Just needs a little ime to get into it but definately is worth the investment since it is just great!
