Did you tried install different "keyboard" .. like germen etc? There you should be able type these characters directly. Or you can do changes to your actually used and reconfigure some keys for writting special characters. I never tried write these, so this above is only a guess.
my keyboard won't let me make them either, so I configured some macros on the keyboard and it seems they started to work
Yeah, even if you change keyboard's language, you still need Freelancer CF itself to change 
But then you may not be able to type normal characters if you go on something weirder like russian alphabet.

Thankx all I'll just use my native language chars "American - English", it seems to much less of a hassle. 
yeah, better, once i had a char with the letter ô and, well, it was bugged

That's Funny |DP| denne, and awfully coincidental...That's exactly the character I wanted to use, the letter "o" with "^" Caret symbol above it- Are you physic?
and o with a ^ can be obtained by pressing the ^ button and then the o, which results in ô.
But honestly you should not use special characters in your name - it somehow prevents proper player interactions as not everyone can type it.
exactly my point Huor. People like me for instance can't type that and sometimes its hard to interact with them

Guns not need any special language or characters to use .. they are it looks universal
You're wrong, your guns speak english, if you look into the guns, you see english code and numbers
