Taxing

  • I have read the Tax rules, My question is. If m taxed and decide to fight and get killed anyway can I then leave the system im in or can the other player just keep killing me when I try to go on my way. also can the same pirate go from x3043 to for instance and change chars to where I Am back and forth keeping me "pinned" where I am. Or after the kill , is a player considered killed for 2 hours and cant revisit that system for 2 hours. Also If I make a run for it and successfully dock before said other player can catch me what then. Can I just go to the bar and get a few drinks and maybe some companionship (log out) and come back later Or is that considered avoiding RP, Whew , Im Out of breath. That's it. :)

  • Isn't the whole point of taxing to pin a person down until he/she pays?

It's not tax, it's a ransom. Pay or die (repeatedly). The whole point is to make the person see it's more profitable for him/her to pay the tax than to die gruesome, fiery death.

Which is why I still don't get why people tax fighters and expect a load of cash to come their way. Fuck you, tax something worth losing - ships on return from harvesting missions, trading ships, mining ships, prisoner transports, pod collectors...

  • ^ I think this behavior should be revised.
If you kill someone he loses the cash, time and cargo already; it doesn't mean that taxed player wants to fight with you, Sw. I'm with you about the fighter case though. :)

  • Once taxed (ie you paid pirate) they can not tax you again for 2 hours (i think). After that time they can tax you again. If you refuse to pay they can kill you repeatedly if needs be but you will find most players will not over do it so will either kill you til they earn tax they had requested or just kill you the once. The best way out of being taxed is by hiring protection from a mercenary organisation called Dark Pheonix (they are players tagged |DP| in game) they will defend you against any unwanted attention (pirate or police) So if you need that protection just contact a DP member.

  • If player in one character pay tax, this ONE char is safe for next 2 hours from this pirate PLAYER (i.e. 'pirate player' can't use his '10' pirate chars for ask tax '10' times from the same char.

If is tax not paid player char can be killed repeatedly (or as was said 'pined') ... problems in this area come usually when players see as OFFENCE being asked for a tax ... 'wtf, I want only trade, explore, pods collect' ... this is what they think, but they forget that they play multiplayer game on role-play server where are given some rules. Each player have wide range possibilities how to deal with 'tax' (like this in post above), but he need to know crossfire role-play which is not hard to learn.

If player switch chars and use different one, then he can be chased again no matter if he paid or not befeore on another char.

If player dock before was catched by pirate, then he can ofc log-out (Do not stay logged in dock which is considered as 'Iddling'). Ofc when you return you can be chased again.

... what is avoiding RP? ... Example: player dock and sw to his other char BECAUSE he see pirate coming. Pirate then also sw char and hunt again, but when he come near his target again dock and switch chars. This example is not directly against server rules (if is switching done for DOCKED chars) but IT IS avoiding RP for obvious reasons. Is advised report this behaviour to server police - [GR]s in game, or here on portal via ticket-system)

If player leave game while he/she is in space to avoid tax (or fine, or other rp situation), then it is against server rules (if reported, GRs will punish such player).

  • Forlon's answer is the only one to be taken in account in this thread, counting the set of rules and related situations mentioned, as much as the GR actions over those abusing these situations. Anyway, he missed part of Die no Might's question:

also can the same pirate go from x3043 to for instance and change chars to where I Am back and forth keeping me "pinned" where I am.

If you (taxed one) get away, as you said, by flying away and escaping the pirate, he (pirate) is not allowed to switch chars and suddenly be in front of you. Even if he didn't get to kill you neither once as you successfully fleed, the RP case is over once he had to switch chars to catch you.

The part Forlon said, if you (taxed one) switch chars, THEN you are to be pinned on for fleeing that way.

Also, any kind of Server rules being broken are to be reported through our "Ticket system", BUT under the section of "Crossfire - Broken Server rules", and not "SWAT Portal - Broken Rules", those sent on the wrong section may not be attended properly by GRs.

  • Sorry I posted in wrong place. I looked at past topic but didn't find the finer points. The taxer asked for tax but didn't know where I was. I had already docked at Pl New Berlin and was looking at maps when he asked for tax. when I asked what it was he departed and logged in as different player in X-3043 and told me to transfer 1 mil to his Bank. I asked more questions "how" no reply. then he departed x3043 and logged back in to new berlin and said pay or die. then back to x3043 he went and put 3 mil bounty on me. It was just kind of weird. Im NOT complaining just trying to understand the dynamics of play. Im sure it simple for players who have been here for a while, But when you are new it seems like a mountain of information and at least for me, a pretty"very" complex game. My father in law gave me 70 mil to start and tried to tell me how to get and use the cargo ship but told me I had to learn the rest on my own so it didn't ruin the discovery aspect of the game. The Graphics are Beautiful, He said they were the best , I agree. Sorry for the trouble :)

  • That is totally wrong for that player though.

Well, such things happen, but you know, the pirate actually has to be in your scanner range to tax you, he can't like, tax you from a planet, or from another system, or anything different.

  • Ok :) That was what was not making sense. If I was a pirate I could just look at the list of on line people and demand a tax be paid from each. I now understand I think. The pirate was trying to just trick me into paying the tax knowing only that I was in the New berlin system. Vely Vely Sneakey :D Thanks for the Information. I might be a little slow but Ill Learn this.

  • A pirate can say or ask for tax many times and from long distance ofc, this is how he can manipulate you from his point of view, but the real demand is when you get the transfer request from him..when you're close to him.In this time, it is your free choice to pay, to run or do anything you want.Meanwhile I recommend not to use insults or any kind of, but that's a different mentality, it depends on each here in game (not like Trikkxie). If everyone follow the rules, even if they are obsolete, there can only lead to good fluency of the game, even if one or another are a bit annoying by the rules.
I hope you have understood me despite bad grammar
    Great care with PirateSoul :vinsent:

  • Also be aware the pirate can shoot your shields out before any request for tax. This gives them the advantage should you refuse. It may also cause some minor damage to your ship as a result. But be mindful that this is not excessive or deliberate. If you believe it is see a gr or use ticket system to report. If player is in a clan copy the clan leader in too. I as a clan leader would appreciate this.

  • That part in the rule is there for like, warning shots, like in the movies where you can shoot once, or twice, or three times if they don't reply, but it's not really ment nor needed to TAKE IT OUT (which so far is allowed) and even "accidentally" do hull damage, cus that's already an aggresion. It also says how you cannot "open fire" on the player until he answers or makes some move.

Anyway, warning shots can also be done in space, around the player... while waiting the reasonable seconds needed for a player to reply, as mentioned in the rules. The common "tax or d... pew pew pew pew" is actually not allowed, and can be reported, and punishable if it happens too many times.

Still, be advised that once a pirate (or any other RP type) actually hits another player's shield just once/twice, that player (no matter RP type, nor RP case, like a pirate asking him for a tax and making some warning shots) is already in the self defence rule and can shoot back openly which includes killing the pirate if he's taken by surprise.

  • Everyone forgot to tell the new guy what you do AFTER you get taxed and pay... put a bounty on them [check the console commands, you'll see there is an option to put a bounty on another player, usually after you get taxed or hassled by the police]. I think 3 million is the usual bounty.

If the pie rats try to tax you long distance again... put a bounty on 'em. Let the mercs run some interference for you. :D

  • That works out :D

And, 3 millions is the minimum ammount, if you wish for some merc to actually move (faster), it's more efficient placing a bigger bounty than that :D

That's pretty much the way I see it. This assumes that pirates want to make the effort.

  • There is 1 good reason to tax fighters ( at least cop'er fighters)...that's too keep them busy. But since pirate can attack cop'er anyways....probably the only point is the courtesy of saying something to the police player before engaging in combat. Funny thing about being a pirate is...usually you only have opportunity to go tax someone for about a mil (which you usually don't get anyways) and then a merc comes hunting your 3 mil+ bounty.

    Ah....life of a pirate is a hard one !!

Long distance taxing...now that is funny!!!! And I have seen it work! HEHE
