Next Hook Features...

  • I am thinking about several tools and features that can be introduced or finally get working for the next Hook. There are a few features already in queue - but without me getting totally bored i wanted to ask around what you guys would have as next feature? Here are a few of my ideas yet:


    - tax / fine user command for pirates and coppers
    - in game award system
    - trade calculator
    - online asf/csf score table


    What are your ideas? The sooner i have other useful ideas the sooner i can play to realize them (or put them in the bin :))
    So please feel free to let your ideas flow.

    i have something what has not quite much to do with the hook and i dont know whether i have asked it or not, but:
    is it, in theory, possible to create large long-range beam-cannons like the big BS in Freespace2 have?
    I think this would revolutionize open-space battles completely :)

  • That's mainly a high rate of fire gun with large effects... making something as large as that but with the effect power of our Mining laser would be better. As having 2 of those high rof guns would kill half of the player's performance for too many effects. Same damage as the asteroids in X3043.

  • About Lonewolf's idea - these guns already exist in Plasmafire mod (on prison turrets) and fire spectacular red beams without any influence on performance. :thumbup: Would be great to see them in CF, as well as ball-projectile guns like Debilitators, but with a higher refire rate and speed.
    I tried rapid fire of several adv debilitators and it looked really stunning!

  • tax / fine user command for pirates and coppers : No, its the job of the pirate/cop to ask for a specific amount.

    - in game award system: For what? People have to do something in order to be awarded first, like being on the server for one.

    - trade calculator: No, it takes away from the adventure of exploration to find things, unless it was tweaked to only show trades where you have actually been

    - online asf/csf score table: We have something similar already.

  • hmm the tax/ fine i think you can only judge that if its finisht. Not sure how you want to do that. but if its like /fine <player> <amount> but what if he doesnt pay then?

  • Would the fine/tax work like a kind of bounty on that guy's head ? hmm, if this is done people have to have it clear that they can only tax/fine while being in range, or at least same system than their victim, unlike bounties, they can't fine/tax a guy across the universe,despite the hook alloweind it (unless it gets fixed).


    But, docking with players ftw :P

    it makes it sound like you highly disapprove of this idea in a highly negative way. why not just accept the fact that people are retarded who can't be happy with the changes they requested. and it sounds like your intentionally asking for trouble by adding "like being on the server for one." for the sake of the forums and server, i request that you edit it. why would you rag on people who flame and whine, bitch and complain then turn around and say something that could spark actions that OP will do that will have severe repercussions on the rest of the CF community. and in case you want to continue to cause drama by responding to my comment on your suggestion, keep in mind i rag on everyone in community at once and i try not to single people out with harsh intentions.


    keyword: try. meaning i know i'm at as much fault as anybody else. i'm leaving it at that as not to instigate trouble. if ya'll decide to argue further on my observation, please leave me out of it.


    now, back on topic


    i'm quite content with the features so far. i dont disapprove nor endorse the current suggestions however. a teleport feature would be nice. not go from Cambridge to NT, but have it so they can only travel within a certain house. so if i'm in Cambridge, i can only go within systems in Bretonia before i have to manually fly out of the house. and of course balance it for only VHF fighters.

    Small ships can't have a jumpdrive, capital ships does.



    That was an idea I wanted to implement/add with a new class of battlestation ships, which would be driven by players, and would be like nearly staying in the same place with a huge station where 2 cap ships are no danger for you, here would come the teleport part which would cost or take a lot of time to engage, like cruise engine. All of this before Discovery added something similar... but a failure version of it.



    Small fighters don't need that, and indeed it'd be very abusable.

  • Flak 88 has pilotable stations i believe


    but since that can't be a hook command, it'd be a hopeful feature of CF2.0


    in Starlancer, the fighters had jump drives to go between planets and sector's n stuff.


    Vishnu, it wouldn't get abused if it was limited to the house the player is in. maybe have it only usable x amount of times per server restart.


    or combine me and Michael's idea. create dockable battleships, have those with battleships able to use teleport/warp so many times per server restart. then if a player wishes, he can pay said player with a battleship to warp him across the Sirius sector...it's a good opportunity to make money and instigate illegal human trafficking RP. maybe a pirate wants to get into Reinland but coppers are at the entrance to the Hamburg system at a checkpoint style thingy...

  • online asf vs csf table can very nicely give info to both sides when is batle won and when is time to retreat. This all with actual numbers. I like this idea even if it can have some dark sides.


    Most wanted feature: Char rename. This with strict limit max one time a 6! month per char. More ppl who play longer time cf as freelancers do not want join clan also bcs do not want lose stats, exploration etc. In most cases this are ppl who can help every clan and are rp wise.

  • Char rename gets to be a needed feature to improve clan recruiting... as Dacia members spreaded arround as they didn't want to lose some advances, and kept their untagged chars when I made the rules clear to them.

  • In that case it could be a good idea. Having a class of ships that could be twice the size of regular battleships, 3 times the armor, 2 times the armament and having almost the same handling as a pregnant yak with a jumpdrive sounds cool.


    Though i guess these ideas will be put aside until the things of priority are completed, coz Huor is the only hooker that we have right now :(

  • They could be called "Battlecruiser" ... it was what I wanted to model/create before getting the fixing bugs part.

  • My point is really simple. I see people demanding things be placed in the game to "make them happy" , but I don't see any positive contributions towards the survivability of CF or this Portal. Playing other mods instead of helping us here, doesn't exactly bring merit to the case.


    All I hear is "gimme gimme gimme" and I don't here, " what can I do to help".


    And no, Huor is not the only "hooker" on CF. :)

    and Michael, please...for the love of all that is Holy. make a Battlecruiser (bigger than Battleship...) because a battlecruiser of sheer size would definitely keep my Napoleon Complex quiet for a long time
