Accessing Coalition or Inner Core sector map during flight

  • Dear all,
while waiting for 1.9 to go online (keep up the good work!) I am cruising around in SP. I found the Coalition and the Inner Core, no problem.
However, I cannot access a sector overview. For the "normal" systems, just press F6 - system map - and then change to sector map. I get Sirius, with X 3043, Sol and some other systems which fit on the map. Here, the starting systems for Coaltion and Inner Core appear like a big, bright golden spot. Hovering the mouse around that spot triggers some apparently random system names. I can access the system map, but do not get the sector overview showing the systems I already explored.

I know I can get this overview elsewhere, but would like to do it in space while flying. Is there any way to display the sector maps for the Coalition or Inner Core systems?
    Thx

  • Unfortunately, from what I have understood from older threads, including newer general system maps was not possible to create,
making navigational plots quite tricky in some areas.
The only way I found to display those new areas (meaning all but sirius) is to go system by system by clicking on jumpgates/holes.

(unless this changed with CF1.9, but I do not recall reading anything about this).

  • I was afraid this would be answer. I found nothing when browsing through the topics.
Didn't find anything in this regard for Crossfire 1.9.

  • As a quick help:

There is a search Base function within the Navmap. If you want to find a map from another sectors system, just go via this function to access the maps. It´s not what you want but a possibility to navigate faster to maps not in Sirius.

  • I would have to check whether that really includes all bases. If I recall correctly, some bases and systems are missing.

But your opinion is correct, this way one can access systems outside Sirius.

  • There is one way to display that systems (or some of them) but not to access.

For example if sirius will be in center, map can display only border systems of sector (other will be reachable from right clicking)
so we can choose system from coalition sector and get to maps by right clicking
choose nomad's systems and get to Kavash by right clicking
choose border sirius systems and get to new york

  • with ~150 systems it will look ugly (next to the fact that that stargate map already looks ugly)

  • I was thinking... freelancer allows innumerous number of systems, but they are limited to show on map.
What if once player flies to another sector he just downloads new mod prefab that changes which systems and which galaxy picture to display at global map?

I see cf mod allows players to use different models for main character, different textures for interface, so players have diffrent prefabs of the mod and plays together.

Now what if players will have another galaxy map which displays inner core systems (for example) instead of sirius. All systems will be the same, it is just that the map will display another systems, like game displays another character when player seted up his mod. So once player fly to another sector he just changes mod settings and will have another map.

    Is it technically possible?

  • not by downloading a texture meanwhile
stuff that is loaded into memory remain loaded there

i am not sure if it would be possible to write a plugin that can change material crc settings
that would probably be something for the plugin coders out there

  • Just imagine how large the universe of freelacer may grow! no need to make new systems at sirius sector and overload it.
Another sectors another systems another galaxy map. It is fantastic! even if i have to reload fl application it will be bearable.
It will be the most awesome mode that might inspire the imagination of map makers for thousands of new freelancer worlds.
Honestly i installed cf because i thought this problem was solved and core inner sector was to display on global map...

  • Personal experience is the best one :) ;)

  • We included different maps for the different sectors. If you want to convince yourself, download the mod, install and play it :)

Guys, you are the best! My dream came true!

So it is possible now to make freelancer maps like this:

    Universe - Galaxies - Sector - Star system ?

CF2. now shows map up to Galaxy layer. That is amazng!!!
