Downtime

    The downtime of the Crossfire server last weekend was due to an hardware failure which damaged one of the servers HDDs. The Server is running again but the HDD is still damaged and running only for the fact that it is mirrored.


    This weekend Ill do a complete backup of everything on the server (not just the chars) and will get the damaged HDD replaced either monday or tuesday morning. Very likely most players wont even notice the repairs but if there is a downtime for a few hours you know why.

    anyway.. C D and so on, can just be created on HDD's. Without HDD's no C D ...
    I just used that way to explain what it is, for a better understanding for people who have no clue what it is. (yes such people are still around)
    And if people don't even know what HDD's are they surely don't know what partitions are as well :)


    Windows:
    System settings -> device manager -> Hard Drives (Disk Drives)
    The installed drives are listed there (Generic xyz (depending on your system) are NO physical HDD's)

    Plan has changed
    the backups went faster than i thought so the HDD will be replaced tomorrow betwen 9 and 11 am gmt
    a final backup of the chars will be done prior the exchange

    I`m pretty sure some evil alien bit OP while the HDD has been changed and now OP is flying his pink Eagle Ragnarok into Inner Core.

    While we're waiting on the server to come back online, I'd like to throw out some of my more awful ideas.


    Idea 1 - a ship that uses no weapons, but instead uses a 'energy battering ram' to destroy targets. It would make use of advanced targeting (as in, helps you plot a ramming course) and quick burst thrusters.
    Idea 2 - weapons that 'charge' before they fire, and fire a consistent beam of energy that would eat through a ship.
    Idea 3 - Being able to "hot-swap" shields in space in order to react to different weapons being fired at you.

    Lordiasd: when is repair/backup done. In such things is always possible expect 'surprises'.

    after replacing the first damaged hdd the 2nd one also got damaged (incompetent technicans)


    the 2nd one will be replaced now aswell (should get finished this evening)
    however since both hdds get replaced it is unlikely that these jerks do a synchronization so ill have to install everything again manually tomorrow (that takes times)
