name change for in game

    How do i change name for the mod if i dont like it?


    Or even add to it?


    Iv played on another server before this, and there was a " / " command for it.


    I couldnt seem to find it on the forums here.

    we wont carry problems from other servers to this one
    so renaming chars is not possible

    Or if i join a clan and change name i loose all the mapping iv done,and have to go back and map it again??

    That is correct Octavius.


    "Standart procedure" would be to create a new character with your "updated" name,
    and transfer your equipment and money from your previous character with the help
    of another player.
    Unfortunately there is no way to prevent to loss of the mapping (although you may
    find many sources around providing CF maps to help you "redo" them).


    As for the reason... it avoids server problems:

    Renaming is possible.


    However the database or where the names are stored isn't changing the original name. In-game your name is changed but if a player tries to PM you or send you a squad invite to your new char name, it wont work. At least that's what I saw when I used to run a server.

    My forums name i wont change,but everyso often i like to ..either add to my name or change it completly just for fun.


    Ill remeber a old name that i like ,and depending on the ship and the RP mood im in.ill change it..


    But if i cant chnge it here.ill just have to iive with it beening plain..

    reasons for preventing name changes by players on the server
    1. it prevents clan jumping
    2. it prevents the already meantioned malfunction of the player messages
    3. it prevents that people break serverrules and hide behind a new name afterwards
    4. it prevents that people start cheating and try hiding from the server administration
    5. it generally prevents confusion between the players

    IIRC any clan leader can change names of player chars.
