I love the way the graphics are updated thanx to this mod. but its almost impossible to kill an enemy since they can repair their shield and hull. So it takes like half an hour to kill one ship. So i hope someone has a patch or file that allows me to disable this feature. I really hope someone can help me otherwise i sadly have to uninstall this mod....

Single Player or Multiplayer... ever thought about first getting a decent ship before engaging enemies?
Or do you think to strike against someone in a papercraft is a good idea^^ -
single player.. i was playing freelancer vanilla and that went very easy with the ship i current have then i installed crossfire and loaded my save file and now i have this problem
-
Ever tried out the beam weapon mod for single player?
-
not yet but it only affects the justice mk1 gun.. so i guess i have to use those then. but is anyone else experiencing that its very hard to kill simple fighters. and does nobody have a file that i can use to disable the shield recharge?
-
Lol. Do NOT listen to what i just posted. That was just a joke xD

well oke can anyone else help me then..

Greetings Ferdi! Welcome to SWAT!
About your problem... Well, to be honest, the NPCs of the Crossfire mod are GREATLY ramped up in difficulty. Not only with the abilities of the NPCs to dodge, redirect their flight path randomly and dog-fighting in general, but also their ability to use nanobots and shield batteries. It makes for some of the most challenging NPC dogfights of any mod I've ever played on. (and I've played quite a few
)
So, my suggestion is to get the best fighter you can get your hands on and the best weapons you can find, namely, SHIELD BUSTING GUNS. You must take down their shields QUICKLY if you have any hope of destroying these very difficult NPCs. Another thing, your expanded controls in Crossfire, you now also have up and down strafes, as well as left and right. Combine using them along with engine kill, you can make your ship much more nimble and harder to hit! Granted, this will not lower the abilities of the NPCs, but once you learn effective dog-fighting techniques, you will most likely have a far better time against them. Hope this helps, good hunting Ferdi!

You made a simple mistake while loading your vanilla save file. Starting in CF is not a big problem when you wanna fight in SP. Just install the Mod with Open SP activated. Your starting cash is 150.000 credits. Buy a good Heavy Fighter somewhere and loot some weapons from wrecks to equip them. After you did so go to Huntsville for example. Everytime you launch, there will be some Xenos waiting for you. After you killed them, don´t forget to tractor their escape post into your cargo hold. Sell those Escape Pods also at Huntsville for a good amount of credits and after an hour you will have enough money to buy a good vhf and loot some class 10 Guns which you also can equip. As soon as you upgraded your ship go and explore CF, as a tip: Start with the Storylines.

putting the difficulty and the 150.000$ aside
your old savegames are not compatible with crossfire
all the new reputations are missing, npcs will not act like they are supposed to be and very likely you will not even be able to play all the quests -
hallo there and thx for this nice mod,
i would also like to knew how to disamble npc nano / shield-bat. usage.
after a long break from freelancer i found cf online and gave it a chance cus to storyline compatibilty and in my opinion its one of the best mods ever
but its just to hard to progress in storyline if u have to farm more then 350k with just 5k per mission and being unable to to get further because every "smal fry" pilot is so annoying that u can't even go traging.it would be a great help if someone could tell me where to find the enties u have to change, i think there are some where in the loadouts.ini but i didn't found everything.
thx

Welcome to the Swat portal Okami,
Modding the mod isn't much allowed as you could spoil your fun(in some situations) or bug the game incorrectly. But, just have a bit of patience, for few days and try make your fighting and targeting skills, as Crossfire 1.9 is about too come and it has 3 times more storyline for singleplayer
I mean Real storyline when you meet Juni again... and fight with help. Other "balancing" fixes will be done as well, so it doesn't get too hard at some points.

thx for the quick reply
i will of cause check out ur latest improvements ..alfter all this is the most spectacular fl mod mankind knews,
the only thing i think is quiet a pitty is thet u have to use rockets at some point. i always liked how u got the chouse of going for that one blaster more. -
it is difficult at first but once you get the hang of it you'll get more confident also have weapons to damage shields and weapons to damage hull i have guns for anti shield work and close fast missiles/mines for hulls works like a dream. and practice practice practice! and welcome to the world of crossfire woot

hi all, firat post for me on here.
i used to play freelancer in '06 when it came out and even programmed some little tools for it back then. recently i stumbled over crossfire 1.9 and discovery 4.85 and thought about giving this a try. i got to say: crossfire looks and feels fantastic but i too have the same problem as OP on here had initially: i find the npc ships like xenos, rogues or whatnot i have to kill to earn money way to hard. given im a little older i really do have problems coping with their erratic behaviour let alone their constant shield and armorboosting. as i read in this thread some suggested investing in better equipment or looting weapons from wrecks but i have some doubts about that: in vanilla freelancer you cant equip level 9 guns if you're a level 1 player just starting out. has this been made possible in crossfire ? also i need to mention im playing this in singleplayer story line mode and just started a new game. Advice would be really appreciated

Firstly welcome to CF.
The level isn't a prob now, once you have enough cash (which you can make more then enough from selling pods at any of the prisons)
Then you can look into buying a ship and getting lev 10 guns if you want.
The NPCs are abit tough at first till you get used to them, and you might want to concider a diff ship for further on missions.
Personally I did the vanilla missions with the basic ships from freelancer vanilla, and once I started the added missions I picked up a better ship and guns with all the added (Generater, Shield Up-grade)
I wont give to much away as it spoiles the finding items of places to explore.
As well coming onto MP is a great way to learn more about the game, as there is always people on that are willing to help. Thats when you ready.
See you in Space soon. -
actually, after you get a bit used to playing the hardest fights will be those near pittsburgh, after you get on a first free-flight, you can rack a bit of cash so it won't be so tough. buy some ship like a defender, get a stunpulse gun on him and just try to stick to killing rogues. xenos are just way too fast and outcasts hit very hard, it gets a problem to defend your own mantle. luckily, only rogues and lane hackers have CDs so you won't have problems getting away. trade a bit of money to the next mission, so you can get outta NY system, then after a mission go to Texas system and do missions against rogues, collect their cargo-pods, sell them to prisons (LPI Huntsville and LPI Sugarland). It racks hella big tons of cash, I actually still haven't found more profitable way of earning money. maybe trading black market goods with trains is better but you need a hella big lot of things to do so, like neutral rep to everyone, to visit each and every planet and station in crossfire (which are horrifyingly numerous). well, just don't go onto third mission when you got enough money, just ignore juni and rack cash, buy some awesome ship (on this point I prefer Shade, it can be bought on battleship near Huntsville, a bit more than 4kk. it can carry best guns that you can buy at that moment, it has more energy than they need and its shield is awesome (don't ever unmount the shield, you can not mount it back). oh, and yeah, its the best Light Fighter in the game, and also beats many vanilla VHFs. for, like, next 5-6 missions you won't have ANY trouble with NPCs, and after that you will have enough cash to buy just anything but some capital ships.

not yet... eventhough we are thinking about doing tests with MP missions soon
