  • I'm having trouble getting Mod Manager to activate Crossfire Mod, getting the SHCOPY error with Freelancer.exe

    OS is Vista

    Steps I have taken:

    uninstalled FL and FLMM

    Manual Deletion of Directories

    Disabled UAC Security

    Ran CCleaner

    Rebooted

    Created new drive partition

Installed FL and FLMM to new partition

Set all rights to max admin level in folder containing both FL and FLMM (rights applied to all sub folders)

Ran Crossfire as admin to install.

Ran FLMM version 1.3 in Administrative mode

    Click Crossfire and activate

Still gets Error message SHCOPY when it gets to freelancer.exe

From what I've read on other posts this is a common problem with Vista. Followed very carefully all instructions and I'm an advanced user so not making errors here. If anyone has a solution (other than the one that assumes I can just throw away an OS and install another) please help. thanks in advance.

  • With more explanations, he meant you need the exact version of FLMM 1.31 that can be downloaded at the mod's site, here: http://www.crossfire.swat-portal.com/index.php?c=8

But I think you have the right version of it, so , I should have to ask, were you using one of the rare AntiViruses, like norton or McAfee, or others, that could possibly delete few files before or after activating the mod ? If yes, you can try add freelancer.exe, and the mod as an exception, so it never bugs scan or deletes stuff from freelancer, that can make such bugs, and makes the FL's speed slower, like a bit of lag.

  • Not sure what this had to do with it, but after trying everything I could think of, I rebooted into safe mode and ran it from there. Ran great without a hitch and everything works as it should. Wow, what a relief.

If you have Vista you may try installing Crossfire in safe-mode, then you can boot back to normally windows and everything works.

  • Hi My mod manager is being a bitch i try to activate crossfire ( yess i have all the neccecery virus exceptions) it loads aboud halfway and then modmaneger Fails (i dont know the correct translation but) the appbarr reads is not responding

  • thats because the tools dont seem to have that many thread the progress bar continues to work even if there are other threads ongoing. Thats not a problem. Wait until its finished. CF is really big and the FLMM needs some time to do all the work necessary. Patience is the key. Errors only appears and you will see that there is an error (in the log report at the lower part of FLMM with an explanation what the error was/is)

  • No no it's not failing, the loading bar has 2 stages on it, until the half and after. Since the beggining of activation until the half it does nohing but testing if the mod is compatible with Freelancer. The second half is when it starts activating the mod, and CF has gigabytes, so it's normal it takes 10 minuts and more with it. Just give it a good time and it will finish, and also if you DON'T EVEN MOVE THE MOUSE, and let it load you will see the loading bar advance slowly until the end. When it goes white it's like saying "Don't disturb me ... dude I'm very busy" :D

  • few posts above someone suggested use win safe mod ...

p.s.: and some antiviruses can't be deactivated fully ... they still do something (as AVG for example).
