Not to seem assinine, but if PvP is an issue vs NPCs then there's always the Arena if you want some privacy right? Besides, I'm sure OP can put the frequency of appearance to be put to like a 5-10% chance of battleship encounters or something to that effect. That will keep the encounters to a minimum, simular to like what you see with Sirius-wide Nomad and DK encounters/invasions on the server periodically.

Well to be honest Cronik, it would depend on what the server can handle IMHO, OP would probably know best what that is.

While the idea is good (technically Crossfire, aka X-3043 should be an endless battlezone with NPCs going at it and I already see a few small ASF/CSF encounters periodically) it's really more a matter of how feasable it is I'd say.

I would like to see more battleship encounters(with an accompanying wing of fighters) from the Houses and perhaps even some other factions across Sirius and possibly even Altair.(like Coalition battle group run-ins with Nomads and Dom'Kavash battle groups in either one's territory) This could even be a random thing where one faction's battleship w/fighter wing shows up in another house or faction's space and they just go at it! :D I've seen this done in other mods.

Again, this all depends on what the server can handle and I'm sure the release of 1.8 alone is going to bump up it's load considerably.

What about making Sol bigger with adding the dwarf planets

I'm distinctly remembering OP saying some things in the past about making a Freelancer system so large... One of the reasons right now is that in the Sol system, one phenomen you can witness out near Pluto and the fringes of the system is that ships shake pretty badly.(which I guess it not that big of a deal) This "clears up" the closer you get towards the sun though. He's also stated that if you fly too far out in such a large system, sometimes at random the ship will mysteriously be destroyed as well. That is a serious bug that will need to be addressed. For some reason OP has yet to figure those quirks of the Freelancer engine out to my knowledge. So... I'd say until OP solves those two riddles, Sol being any bigger is out of the question.

The screenshots of your progress with 1.8 OP is like a varitable collection of "space-fantasy" new Windows desktop images, they are that good. 8) The graphics abilties within the Crossfire enabled Freelancer are starting rival more modern games and some are literally breath-taking. If only the Real-Space option was added to Crossfire to make all the starscapes the "Big Black" like on FreeWorlds would be the icing on the cake for me. However, some people here would probably get disorientated quick in a solar system without some ambient light in it besides the suns. :D That was always a thrilling thing for me in Freeworlds; for if I did a fly-by of a planet's dark-side umbra, I would wonder whether or not if I would accidently slam into it's surface for being too close. [11]

Awesome, incredible work OP, you are by far THE premier coder for Freelancer mods I have ever seen. You have literally breathed new life into the graphics, engine and playing capabilities of this 6-year old game.

Meh, just go ahead and change Crossfire 1.8's name to Freelancer 2 already... :D:D:D

Sadly, I don't know you all that well Galactic_Fire, but I will say this:

Retirement is for old grandpas. :D

I doubt very seriously you are of the ripe of old age to qualify Galactic_Fire. ;) I'm sure you have life issues to deal with but surely it's nothing that time and some effort cannot fix.

Just do what I do and take a nice LOOOONNNGGGG vacation Galactic_Fire, hell I do that every once in a while across various games I've played on or offline over the years. There's nothing wrong with taking a indefinate leave of absence. Do whatever you need to, it's not a job, it's just a game.(unless you have personal commitments on the SWAT team that is) For example, I was MIA for a couple of months here on Crossfire until recently when my best IRL friend Wayne_Arkane got his internet back, got me back on the server and we started playing regularly again. Sometimes it's good to step away from the computer and live life offline a while to get one's head back on straight or sometimes to deal with one's personal "demons" IMHO. Sometimes we just need a break from getting burnt out on a game! :]

So leave if you must, but IMHO retirement is out of the question and I'm confident you can return to fold whenever you are ready or whenever you can. I'm sure the Crossfire server and the Bloodguard will still be here whenever you get back. 8) Good journey, blessings to you and come back soon. [wave]

As a long-time "observer" or "lurker" if you will, of all things Freelancer over the years, since the Lancer's Reactor's early days, I'm sad to say... I'm sorry to see certain elements of the Discovery server and/or it's personel are effectively trying to undo what all the SWAT team and other constructive FL community members have done for Freelancer. As this gem of a dying breed of computer games, the ENTIRE community surrounding Freelancer MUST learn to unite, or they all will take the risk of eventually dying out altogether. I've witnessed the strife and downturn of The Lancer's Reactor in this way and it's dishearting to see this happen to the Freelancer community. The reason I say this is in my oberservations, the community as a whole is not getting a sufficent influx of new players to Freelancer to sustain it's communities indefinately due to it's age and other factors. If we don't learn to get along we all suffer eventually dying out and how soon is determined on how well we stay connected and how we get along. I've even recently noticed the current economic woes worldwide is causing an limited impact to the number of people normally on the server to this degree.(of course that could also be because of the coming release of Crossfire 1.8 ) Unfortunately, all too many times I see a small vocal minority of people screwing it up for the rest of us...

Personally, my life has enough drama to deal with without getting involved in all these debacles, it's why I'm primarily a lurker among the FL community. ;) I do pray however, that cooler, more intelligent heads will prevail and the rift between the Discovery community and the SWAT community and/or the rest of the FL community will heal so we can all devote our energy to something far more constructive.(like this mod, FreeWorlds and others like it) I do hope Igiss will get the courage and take the inititive to do what is necessary to root out the troublemakers for the good of all the FL community and make an effort to improve relations to his fellow FL community members and leaders, not just for the Discovery community's benefit.

SWAT-OP-R8R, I've played many, many mods for this awesome space sim/shooter,(unfortunately almost all of them were played off-line, except this one :D ) of which I feel is a dying breed of computer games, sadly. Of all the mods I've ever played, only ONE of them comes nearly close the amazing amount of work, sweat and tears you've obviously poured into this incredible mod.(and that other mod is Free Worlds, surprise, surprise) My kudos, thanks(from me and Wayne_Arkane for that matter) and blessings for all you've created in the Crossfire mod. Freelancer has a great chance of truly living on in the on-going evolution of the Crossfire mod, even without the prospect of a Freelancer 2 or something equal to it. I eagerly await the arrival of Crossfire 1.8. [w00t] Rawk on dewds, as you were.

Ahhh, thanks for the explanation Huor. I knew his ping was not all that great but that is pretty incredible... And very crappy ping. :( Hopefully here soon he will get his connection upgraded, as I have heard him mention it recently. As far as I know Daywalker, I don't think he uses any other programs that will cut into his bandwidth on his connection when he's on the server, I will bring that to his attention as well though.

I will relay all this information to him ASAP and try to get him to communicate with server police and others when contacted in game, even if it's pretty simplistic. Maybe I'll have to give him some typing lessons. :O:D

Anyway, thanks again for the heads up guys, I'll relay all this to Wayne Arkane. I'll see ya'll around on the server, gg and good day. 8)

To whom it may concern, I have learned through my best IRL friend, (screenname Wayne_Arkane) last night that his account was banned for apparently no reason. I am assuming that this was most likely just merely a simple misunderstanding with someone or error on part of the server's scripts or something as he is on a slow connection.(kick ban for high ping?)

FWIW he's a very poor typer, usually pretty solitary(except that he's typically with me when we're both on) and withdrawn from interacting with people on the server. He merely just loves exploring all the in-game solar systems, getting a good ship, killing NPCs, getting some good gear and he's not much for RP, he usually keeps to himself and wants to be left alone.

So with that said, I apologize on his behalf if his actions have broken some rule(s) on the server, he doesn't check these forums and doesn't keep up too much on the mod like I do. If this is just merely a simple misunderstanding or error on part of the server would you SWAT_OP, if it's not too much to ask, or someone with the mod powers to please unban him at your earliest possible convenience? If there is a problem that means he will not get unbanned please let me know so we can try to resolve this issue as we both enjoy playing together on this server and would like to continue doing so. Thanks in advance for any help and assistance!

    Yes, understood.

    So as far as I understand, I don't see a problem :)

Well, no offense, but you seemed to have overlooked my screenshots... My ship's crossair on the second screenshot is dead on the larger part of the base in orbit around planet Cornith, it identifies and confirms it as part of "Police Base Peris Station", with the other section of it 89k away back near the jumpgate. This is not a destroyed base or any kind of debris, as it looks like a working, operational station, minus the docking ports and bridge back near the jumpgate of course. It's like the base was originally meant to be in orbit around Cornith, but part of it was moved near the jumpgate, namely the modular part of it that looks like alot of typical FL border patrol stations. If you could see the entire station in the second picture you will immediately notice the long span section is cut on the left end where you would typically see where the docking ports/bridge are connected.

well, it's a bug, but we still can live with it can't we?

Yes, it's a bug and it's really no big deal... Nobody would probably know about it unless they were really curious (like me) and go exploring the entire system. I just felt like bring this to Swat's attention so perhaps it can be fixed in the next release. 8)

Greetings folks, this is my first post here, but I've lurked over these forums for the past few days since I've been on the server for a few weeks now. I want to say thank you Swat for a great and actually fun mod that has alot of depth to it, keep up the great work man. I've played lots of mods for Freelancer and I've been playing this game for nearly since it's release, but this mod is probably my most favorite of them all.

Now, with all that out of the way, down to business:

Last night while out and about near the Karnak Prison slaughtering Outcasts for pods (read: $$$) in the Vega system, I got bored and decided to explore the rest of the system, as I noticed there are two other planets in the system.(my curious nature and all haha) Come to find out, there names are Cortez(closest to Peris station) and the further planet out, Cornith. Upon closer inspection of Cornith however, I notice a space station platform in orbit around planet Cornith from a distance. I though this was rather weird, especially since I could not click on it, it would only lock on to the planet Cornith. Upon coming near orbital approach of the planet, I notice I can't click on it at all, in fact it will throw the "arrow" over to my right... On an object 89k away... Station Peris!!! 8o Somehow the small docking park of the station is in stationary position near the jumpgate while the other larger section of the station is in orbit around planet Cornith! Anyway I figure I would bring this to your attention Swat as I imagine this is a "bug" that needs fixing. 8) SuperCars was with me to verify and confirm this bug as well, if necessary. I will try to attach the two screenshots I took... Hope this helps man. :D Ryleous out-
