However Diablo... If we're required to carry 10 million on our n00b character for this event, we definately won't be a "pure lvl 18 character" anymore either. Probably more near level 40 or so. This will most likely also require everyone to transfer funds from other characters on the server to the n00b character, for those who aren't new the server.

Whoo I hope I can make this event Sunday, I've already got a character and Starflier setup for the event. I've even managed to take out 3 squadrons of Liberty Rouges and 2 squads of Xenos in Starfliers tonight practicing for the event... :]

With all that said, I will say this, the event is going to run much longer than one hour.... Easily. 8o This will be more of a test of how long your wrists can hold out or how long it takes your fingers to go numb. ;( (I highly recommend some good wrist rests for your keyboard and a nice mouse pad with a integrated wrist rest like I use, if you're not using something similar already)

I barely even used any nanobots or shield batteries against the NPCs as well tonight, with a pimped out Starflier with just equipment and guns from all the nearby systems by New York... And surprisingly, you can put up quite a fight against most NPCs in the area than most people think with such a Starflier. :D 8)

Heh, thanks guys! I just had to get that off my chest... I hate to see this whole server/mod/group of friends destroy itself over what amounts to a hill of beans. (haha thanks KhohnJao! :D )

Of course, I'm probably saying what everyone else's thinking for the most part too. I can only hope enough people will read this post, take it to heart, maybe some folks will return to CF and remember why they came here in the first place.

P.S.: Oh yea Saxonraider, ya gotta catch me first ya scurvy dog! :D :D :D To those who know me out on the server, I have my bag of tricks to evade pirates(ask Marauder sometime heheheheh) and I know the Sirius sector like the back of my hand.(and Altair isn't too far behind) Come find me if you're able sir. [8]

Man... I leave the server for a few months or so, become active again and it's like the place is coming off the hinges... :D

Allow me to preface this post with my past history of Freelancer in general since I'm sure there are many of you here who have never seen me on the server or talked to me in-game... I've played this game since nearly it's release along with countless mods for it and various servers, ranging from FreeWorlds, Realspace to the WTS mod to even the Battlestar Galatica Dawn of War server. So is any of that supposed to impress you?

    NO.

However I want to tell you I didn't just turn up on the turnip truck here so to speak either... I've played a number of other popular space sims,(even some fairly recent ones!) but none of them stack up to the depth, capabilities, ideas and action of Freelancer and more importantly, this mod, the Crossfire Mod as well. Now granted I've seen my fair share of drama, suspense and intrigue from various games/servers and sadly after all these years, it all seems to be the same no matter where I go. Unfortunately, this is a real shame and a sad fact of affairs with this mod and it's server, but as you can guess, it's to be expected.

I've stood by for far too long on the sidelines now watching all of this unfold like a bad soap opera and I feel it's time I have to say a few words to all who will listen and take heed:

Seriously people, I know I'm just a lowly, nobody Freelancer on this server, but man, can everybody who's got a raging case of the redass please take a few steps back, take a obviously much needed vacation away from this mod/server/forum for a week or two(or however long it takes!!!) and RELAX!!! This mod/game/server is not worth a heart attack over folks! Take a break, go live some offline time away from the computer with friends and family, get things back into perspective, if not just for my meager pleas, but for your own sakes! Lord knows I have to do it on a regular basis myself!:D

Look, I realize there is drama in any server to some degree, but this level of butthurt and strife I've observed leading up to now over the past half-year is not healthy folks. And personally, to me, it's heartbreaking because this is really an incredible mod for Freelancer and I believe there are some good, honest, genuine people here that just want as I do, to enjoy this mod online with some friendly people. Yes, I realize people have screwed up, yes I realize this is OP's show and his word is final, so deal with reality folks and leave if you must, but don't go away mad. This doesn't mean you who are being punished has to leave either. Yes, there are times we may be petty and acting like children, but we are all after all, human. We all make mistakes, live and learn. Now, I've met some pretty underhanded individuals on my time here on the server, but I've also met some really down-to-earth folks who just want to enjoy themselves on the server and make new friends. I truly feel that unfortunately the facts of life are that a small minority of folks tend to screw up a good thing for the rest of us.

However OP I do want to say this to you, I hope this doesn't mean you have to throw out the baby with the bathwater either. I believe everyone deserves a second chance too.

Ultimately, we are here on this server, this forum and playing this Freelancer mod for one reason and one reason primarily:

    FUN.

The events leading up to now has effectively spoiled the FUN.

So just who is responsible? ALL OF US, either directly or indirectly.(for some causing it to happen and others like myself, who stood by and let it happen!)

Who can fix it? Nobody but OURSELVES.

My personal recommendation to those who are to blame? Stop acting like children, if the shoe fits, and man/woman up, figure out a solution to this servers problems and then BE HAPPY playing CF! :D Be a gentleman/lady and accept responsibilty for your actions, apologize to whoever needs apologizing to, learn from your mistakes, help us all figure out a way to best address server issues and move on. We're all mostly the age of a responsible, mature adult here, right? Swallow a little pride, apologize and deal with it, keeping strife between one another is not worth trashcanning this mod and it's server is it? Because that's the way we're headed if things do not change. I know this because I've read all of OP's posts and it doesn't take a genius to figure out the man's pissed. And pissing off an mod author on whom the server you frequent on is not a smart idea if you like playing on it. IMHO I believe OP is a reasonable man and has been fairer than most server owners I've seen over the years, sure perhaps he's made a mistake or two, but who hasn't in life? I can't fault the man for trying to do what he feels is in the best interest of HIS mod and HIS server, whether you like him or agree with him or not. The rules OP lays down for this server are there to maintain peace and the enjoyment of this mod for everyone on it, they are worthless as is this server if no one upholds them or is there to dutifully enforce them, I hope we all understand and realize that.

Really, I really hate to see people leave this mod/server over such petty matters IMHO, but if it's bugging you that much then by all means... Perhaps it's better for both sides of the issues, but I do please ask that you reconsider.

IMHO I'm a pretty easy going individual and have learned to forgive and forget,(even when I've had my ass chapped on here a few times haha) as hard as it was over the years... But can we all try to do the same and try to remember what we are all really here for? Because quite honestly, I've got enough drama in my life as it is outside of this game and I'm pretty certain most, if not all of you feel the same way too.

Again, this post is not directly pointed at anyone or placing blame on anyone, but if the shoe fits... Well, let's hope none of us has to wear it. :D Above all, just remember, it's just a GAME, a game we play for FUN! Remember that rule, try not to spoil the fun for others and you'll never go wrong.

Thanks for reading and goodday to you all,(especially as long winded this post was LOL) hope to see you all in space, as friends, fellow pilots and members of this awesome mod and it's server. Good flying, good hunting and good game, see ya in space. :)

    Signed,

    A lowly, nobody, lurking Freelancer,

    -Ryleous Arkane

P.S. - Thanks a million OP and to the SWAT team for all your blood, sweat and tears into this mod.
...From a big Freelancer fan who's seen alot of mods come and go.

Feel free to lock this post OP if you want, but if there is going to be any discussion in it, I ask you all to please keep it civil and DO NOT DRAG UP ANY DRAMA OR STRIFE, thanks! 8)

Hey OP/beta testers, is there any way possibly you guys can recommend/give a suggestion to what would be some minimum requirements for high end graphics/wide screen format in 1440x900 res. or higher for CF 1.8? (i.e. CPU, ram, HD space and GPU)

Currently, I'm running a old Athlon 64 socket 754 @ 2.2 Ghz, with 2 gigs of DDR400, a Radeon 3850 w/512 GDDR3 through a Acer x223w 22" wide screen monitor and 95% of the time, it's smooth as glass. Just wondering if I'll be able to keep the resolution jacked up for CF 1.8, or if I'll need to look into doing a complete overhaul on my computer to keep that res.(which to be honest, it's waaaaayyy overdue, I built it personally 6 years ago haha)

Excellent feedback OP, I enjoy reading developer progress reports and it's nice to be kept "in the loop". It's very interesting to hear of CF 1.8's progress through the "first perspective" i.e. you OP! Always know that you and your staff are greatly admired and appreciated for the endless hours that have been poured into this FL mod to make it as awesome that it is. Keep up the hard work and as always folks remember:

Good things take time and patience awards the patient.

My sentiments exactly, just drop the "Crossfire" name altogether and just name the mod, Freelancer 2!

Another working title I had in mind: Galaxylancer, since OP has two, possibly three major sections of the KNOWN Milky Way Galaxy mapped out in Crossfire 1.7. (i.e. Sirius sector, Sol and nearby stars i.e. "the Sol Sector" and the Altair sector)

Sorry if this seems offtopic, but here goes...

Further expounding the idea goes like this:

Starlancer centered around the Sol system with humanity in a massive solar system-wide civil war.

Freelancer centered around the remnants of the fleeing Alliance from Starlancer and creating a new region of human populated space, creating the new "Houses" of the Sirius Sector. This is also where humanity comes into it's first extraterrestial contact, albiet it's rather hostile and the Sirius houses barely survive from it.

Galaxylancer can center around what Crossfire is already concentrating on, judging from what I've seen and heard from OP's ideas and work of CF1.8. Humanity is spreading further out into the Milky Way, the Sirius houses reuniting with the remant Coalition brothers and yet coming in contact once again with a very old and very powerful alien race who are threating to destroy ALL of humanity. This forces a final cease-fire forever between the age old Alliance, i.e. Sirius houses and the Coalition of Altair for the sake of all humanity. During this they return to the Sol sector of space to find a deserted Sol system and continue further exploration of the Sirius and Altair sectors while battling the hostile alien races and attempting to befriend the newer discovered alien races.

To give everyone a idea just how big our real life galaxy is, I found a map of just how little Crossfire has theoretically covered so far. See if you can find Sirius and Altair on the map, this is just our "Local Stellar Neighborhood":

    http://www.deepfly.org/TheNeig…6-NeighborhoodSphere.html

It's a very logical and expected progression of humanity's progress among the stars and across the Milky Way while in keeping with Starlancer and Freelancer's storylines, while adding new, adaptable elements to it. With all that said, hats off to you OP, I can tell you've put alot of though into Crossfire in that respect.

Again, sorry for the seemingly long-winded off-topic post folks, but I've thought about this ever since I found Crossfire and kept up with the story line of Starlancer, Freelancer and Crossfire and wanted to share my thoughts and that I feel this mod is really becoming what OP and many others will hope it will become, in essence what we've all wanted, a Freelancer 2 or "Galaxylancer" if you will. Perhaps I should put this post in a new thread instead...

That's because underneath the "candy-like exterior" of the Xbox 360 lies nothing more than a slightly modified PC. Surprise, surprise. I will say this though, at least you can troubleshoot and fix your PC due to it being modular in nature hardware-wise and for most DIY'ers the software can be "fixed" as well.

The Xbox 360 on the other hand, becomes nothing more than a cute looking doorstop in most cases once you see the "red ring of death". ;)

Oh yea, I take it you've fixed your problems R33, I saw you out on the server the other night, everything finally running OK? 8)

Negatory, a workaround is available, instead, try getting the word out and directing others to this thread and the other thread related to this phenomenon is my humble suggestion.

So far, the workaround does the trick for me with no visible depreciation in graphics in Freelancer. Loosing a very useful weapon to not inconvience others(esepically in light of the rarity of them coming in personal or nearby contact with the adv. debilitor blasts) seems pretty lame, especially when a workaround is available and it works.(been using it for months now, even have a ship using them currently with zero crashes, I repeat, ZERO crashes) Instead, I recommend putting a sticky up notifying others about it in this forum who happen to stumble upon this bug in Crossfire. You can choose not to use them if you like, that is your perrogative...

[blink]AGAIN FOR THOSE WHO MISSED MY POST, THIS IS A WORKAROUND I KNOW THAT WORKS:[/blink]

Hit F1, go into your "Options", then "Performance" and turn down ONLY the "EFFECTS DETAIL" slider to 50%, DO NOT USE THE "GLOBAL" EFFECTS SLIDER at the top that affects all the sliders at once. Leave the rest of the sliders at 100% so as there is no visible decrease in game detail. Ok the changes and exit out.

*EDIT: corrected workaround method to give exact names in F1 menu*

OR go into your options, then video via F1 and turn down your effects to 50%. Adv. Debilitators are fine once you turn down the effects, apparently there is still a bug in the Adv. Debilitator's projectile video effects that causes CTDs. (I do hope you are reading and eventually address this OP, I did read the other thread about this)

    ?

I don't think it's your PSU if you're only pulling 233 watts, you're well below it's max wattage, however you might want to make sure you check the rail voltage your video card is getting. Make sure there is NOTHING else connected to a "rail's connectors" i.e. power cable connector line coming straight off the PSU itself except for your video card. That way it's getting the full wattage/voltage from the PSU it can recieve from a "rail". Unless you're running a real low-end, no-name PSU that doesn't even supply the rated wattage it's listed as having you should still be within decent thresholds I think, UNLESS you're pulling alot more under load while playing games like Freelancer. This is entirely possibly as I know Intel and AMD processors are rated differently with their TDP ratings.(Thermal Design Power, or also called Thermal Dissipation Power) AMD seems to rate worse case, i.e. maximum, while Intel seems to be average, i.e. normal theoretical useage. While that's the ratings for heat output, the voltage the processor's pulling at the same time as the card could also be a problem. Just curious, but you aren't overclocking anything are you, like the processor or the video card?

Definately try phileditin's suggestion and try to measure exactly what you're pulling while under load wattage wise and check your temps while playing Freelancer and post a log file of it.

Haha, you do have the same card as me R33! :D Awesome card indeed. Yes, definitely go with the latest drivers from Sapphire first and yes, they do have older versions of the drivers available on the site. Try the newest first and if that don't work, roll back to older drivers and see if you can find some that may fix the problem.

Personally, I'm using a Aspire 500watt PSU and have been for years with my socket 754 Athlon 64 processor setup and all the time I've had my Sapphire I've never had any power issues. However... You are running a 3.0ghz P4, I can only fathom how much power it sucks down and heat that thing pumps out, even if it is a Northwood core and ESPECIALLY if it's a Prescott core. The 3850HD is kinda piggish on power and heat itself to boot...

Here's a link for a system component power supply calculator, this will roughly tell you how much power your system currently is sucking down and so you can figure out exactly how much you need.

    http://www.journeysystems.com/?power_supply_calculator

So far from what I've calculated and I'm guessing your exact specs aside from what you've posted, you're pulling surprisingly only 309 watts, well within range of the PSU. So perhaps you're just not getting enough power off a PSU rail to your 3850HD, or perhaps you need to check your temps inside your case at full load during the game to see if you're approaching high thresholds of heat for the video card causing the errors you're getting.

R33, I'm also running a 3850HD on my machine, with a 2.2 Athlon 64 and 2 gigs of DDR. Freelancer runs like a dream on my machine @ 1680x1050 with zero problems, so I suspect your card could be faulty. I do hope you still have your warranty on the card and the warranty information handy from the company and/or vendor you bought it from/through.

Another thing to look at is your video card drivers and possibly your Direct X drivers as well. Run dxdiag at the RUN option off your START button in Windows to run the Direct X diagnostics and information utility. Try using either older or if necessary, newer Catalyst drivers and see if that solves your issue as well.

Just for argument's sake, list your system specs as best you can so perhaps we can all here help isolate the real issue at hand, as this could be a hardware issue that does not exactly mean your video card is malfunctioning. There could be hardware conflicts causing your problem and it could be a motherboard issue. The lack of sufficent power off a PSU rail as you mentioned could be a issue as well and something to research into too.

So far you've got roughly 4 differnet aspects of the computer to scrutinize to see which one is causing your problem until you can supply us with further information:

    1. hardware (card itself or other components malfunctioning)
    2. software (drivers, Direct X, interfering secondary software)
    3. sufficent power, lack of necessary voltage from PSU rail
    4. heat output, disspation and hardware cooling

Anyway, try this and the above solutions, give us some more info and get back to us, good luck! :))

Yep, tru dat, however... I will hold to the SFP's rules and request access well before I get thru the dimensional gate in Sol to Altair, as things can get hairy quick and more than once between point A in Sol and point B in Sovetskaya. IMHO Sovetskaya's only real use to most high level people(besides the aforementioned Coalition ships and gear) I suspect it is merely a pit stop and launching point to venture into the DK systems and eventually to it's main point of interest, the Hyperspace gate in Menton. Aside from that, not much else to do as the storyline will eventually lead you to DK space to do the Hyperspace quest. FWIW, quite honestly, there's more to explore and see in the DK systems than there is in Coalition space... :O

IMHO Sovetskaya could benefit from further expanding either it's current systems (maybe a new base or two in the "unoccupied" Coalition systems like Tomsk?) or adding some more Coalition systems. Putting a prison out there where you can cash in on pods would be a good lure to some I know. Further possible trade routes and trading points(i.e. planets or bases) within Coalition space would spruce it up too... Of course, I realize that would require the efforts of OP to further that end though.

I'd have to agree, not alot of incentive to come to Sovetskaya IMHO unless you're looking for particular Coalition ship or Coalition gear, or heading towards other Coalition systems if you've got a ship that's already maxed out or you're just there to follow the story line. The trip out there is long and for some, pretty treacherous, I'd say those are the main reasons most don't come out there personally...

And as far as your question Portalearth as to whom makes them/uses them, I believe you will only see them on civilian factions,(i.e. non-military, non-house related factions)as they are a civilian weapon.

Oh yea, CTD = crash to desktop

On a personal note guys, I haven't noticed any CTDs when I used advanced debilitators, I honestly don't think I had any problems with them AFAIK before and after I reduced my "effects" details slider under video->details on the F1 options. If anything I suspect that caused my CTDs, I suspected it was the newer type of explosions for the ships used in Crossfire, because I don't believe I was using the advanced debilitators at the time either! (I typically use lvl 9 Wyrm Type 2s)

    Hope this helps!

When you say you shot a ship did you mean you actually destroyed it?

The reason I say this is because here recently out of the blue, I was experiencing a CTD whenever I destroyed a ship and it was VERY. VERY. FREEKIN. ANNOYYYYYING. [3] [3] [3] I still don't know exactly what has triggered that to this day...

The only fix I know of to end the problem after some research here on the forums was to scale back 50% on my effects level under Details under the graphics options via F1. It put a stop the CTDs immediately. Hope this helps! 8)
