Also why a clan logo on a public free map ? ^^ Op didn't did that...

Ditto to Michael's comments Hellraiser, these are just overhauls of the maps you see above, as OP has requested.

As for the clan logo, this is a group effort of the Silver Arrows, as me and Admiral Sam-Thomas are both working on this as part of our roles in the clan. The Silver Arrows are explorers and defenders of humanity from aliens, which includes also dealing with galactic cartography, in order to better explore and know where we are headed throughout the known Milky Way Galaxy. The reason I'm also including the SWAT logo on there, is that they provided the base information of these maps, thus we are crediting them as well. Anyone else who was involved with these maps we will give full recognition as well.

Thanks Centurian, I'm marking this as I recreate the maps, thanks for the information. I'm using AutoCAD to do the line work and possibly importing images as backgrounds with these. They will also sport a mini-map inset of the entire galaxy with a 100,000 light year scale down at the bottom of the sheet, also indicating where the sector is in the galaxy and various other data listed in a legend. There will be three sheets, all on 8.5x11, full color with SWAT, Crossfire 1.8 and the Silver Arrow logos as well.

There is more to come and after proper SA review, some examples of what we have so far.

Awesome story line OP, I really enjoyed reading them, thanks! I can barely fathom how long it took for you and the SWAT staff to plan it out and write the Crossfire story, let alone code for the mod. I'm sure it's an evolving one, but it's a great continuation and extention of Freelancer's original story line concepts. IMHO Crossfire really is "Freelancer 2", or my pet name for it, "Galaxylancer", a very worthy successor to Freelancer.

Now that you've said that OP, I'm almost quite convinced it's other people somehow inadvertantly crashing the server by not restarting FL or something on thier end causing these recent string of crashes. I noticed the server was humming along very nicely the other night(as you had said earlier that day) when there were few people on(myself included) and then, last night.... Well there was quite a number of people on until the "crash-a-thon" ensued for several hours and then there were few people on again and the server seemed to "settle down". I don't think this happened by chance...

This is not always the case, sometimes I see the server back up for a few minutes and *POOF* down goes the server again, without any warning.

Yea, I need to say something about this OP, didn't you have a notice somewhere in-game or on the launcher at one point about closing Freelancer in case of a crash or restart? Surely this would help all the n00bs and not-quite-so-observant individuals to do so.

I kept saying to myself last night in the crash-a-thon that surely somebody is forgetting to restart and possibly could be a cataylst to these incredible number of crashes. AMIRITE? AMIWRONG? :D8)

Dewd! The triple screen Matrox adapter setup is awesome Franco! Kinda jellyous! :D I remember years ago when it first came out, I just hope the support for it is better now. At least I've gone wide screen now on my setup at home at a nice high rez. I'm pretty happy with it right now since I've setup Freelancer for the rez with wide screen support/adjustment. I have no clue if Freelancer can even work with a multiple monitor setup, I think that question can best be asked to OP and if he can even add support for it as I doubt MS implemented it into the game.

Yes, the Logitech 5.1 setup I too have at the house is awesome for gaming, however due to issues with the 3D sound in Freelancer, it's best to leave it disabled as per Microsoft's suggestions to solve various stability issues. I will have to try to re-enable it sometime after Crossfire 1.8 leaves beta and see if it's stable enough to use on my computer.

As for your controls Franco, I think that all depends on if it's supported by MS (the appropriate drivers) and can be mapped(or even recognized) to certain controls in Freelancer. Playing Freelancer with a joystick is tricky as it's orignally programmed with a mouse and keyboard in mind. But perhaps with the proper tweaking, setup and training yourself to adjust to the new controls, I'm sure it can be done. There will be some quirks mind you, such as z pitch rolls(barrel rolls) are only used while out of mouse flight mode, i.e. cruise/autopilot mode, which will effectively make your foot pedals of little use. Not sure what the yoke controls, but the throttle and joystick will most likely be able to be applied to it, as I have a nice Saitek flightstick myself that works well for flight based games.(and even games like Mechwarrior 4, my favorite to use that stick with)

Anyway, you've got an awesome setup there Franco, however I'm afraid it may be overkill or worthless for the most part for Freelancer due to it's own set of issues sadly. Best of fortune to you with getting it to work like you want in Freelancer though!

I know its sensitive case in terms of balance, hard to find it in order not to exploit it or drive away the dinamic economy...but if it can be done...well that will be very interesting new feature for 1.9.

I'm with Tito on this, mining would be a great way to expand commerce throughout Crossfire and create the "miner" RP and eventually, "miner" clans. Perhaps all new commodities as suggested, "crude/unrefined X" items and so forth, specialized mining ships/freighters and even a few "miner" weapons to harvest ore. This RP could also be expanded into refineries nearby nebulas and asteroid/ice fields.

With a little reworking of certain nebulas(gas fields), they too could be harvested for raw gases just like asteroid or ice fields for ore.

DEWD! That soooo reminds me of a quest on the Battlestar Galactica Dawn of War mod I used to play on years ago.... You have to navigate a minefield with tunnels with only beacons to guide your way to a "Guardian" at the end, with several dead ends within the maze. The Guardian was TUFF! Only way to destroy it was with an ubertorpedo type weapon (the launcher was the Bow of Sagittarius and the ammo was the Arrow of Apollo!) Destroying the Guardian yeilded a jumphole to a system not on the map that contained a satellite that when shot, gave up a "datadisk" containing the coordinates to Earth! It was a really well thought out quest! The minefield itself was well hidden within a system as well, it required you to think 3 dimensional to get to it. The bow and arrow were also both hidden in "wrecks" in two seperate systems, one was a Colonial system, the other was in Cylon space.

    That's not evil bro, that's downright demonic. [641] [11] :D

Thanks guys! :D As I understand it, the Silver Arrows will be releasing intelligence reports from newly discovered alien systems and newly discovered Coalition allied systems to share with all Sirius Alliance houses, Altair Coalition houses and all other human corporations, military and political entities once proper expeditions have been scheduled and information has been verified and cleared for release.

It would be great for pvp and tactics if it worked like that.

Hey Cpt. Gonzo! 8) I'm not OP, but if he has not messed with the original Freelancer code regarding shield vs. weapon type,(which I suspect he hasn't in light of this addition to 1.8 ) then yes it works exactly like that. I'm quite sure this is what OP intended as to not only break the "shield monopoly" any clan could exploit, but require a pilot to consider what shield he should use regarding the enemies they plan to confront and to the point, the weapons he expects to face.

Now that the shields specs are all roughly comparable, it boils down the weapons of your enemy vs. your choice in shields and could make the difference in suffering either limited damage to your shields/ship or possibly getting turned into space debris. :D

Just a heads up folks, there are now in CF1.8, MKII level 10 molecular(Adv. Barrier) and positron(Adv. Brigandine) shields around the Sirius sector, with specs roughly comparable to the lvl 10 graviton(Adv. Champion) shield found in Hiruga.(courtesy of the SMG of course)

So anyone who asks, so what, why the new shields to even things up?

Well, here's how the original Freelancer shield - weapon circle works:

Graviton protects best against Laser, Photon and Pulse projectiles, worst against Particle and Plasma projectiles.

Positron protects best against Neutron and Tachyon projectiles, worst against against Laser, Photon and Pulse projectiles.

Molecular protects best against Particle and Plasma projectiles, worst against Neutron and Tachyon projectiles.

To all aquantinces, friends and various n00bs I've helped out over the past few years, I have enlisted with the Silver Arrows Expeditionary Force and will be deleting my "Ryleous Arkane" character on the server this week.

Now, I'm still the same ole' Arkane, :D just under a callsign now, "ORION" and under the command of Rear-Admiral Sam Thomas. I'm looking forward to exploring the new systems, investigating the new alien races and blowing them all to pieces with my new clansmen/friends. Haha, kinda sounds like enlisting in the US Army during the Vietnam War back in the 60s! :D

"See the world, meet interesting new people and then kill them!"

    See ya'll in space, ah'ight! 8)

Chalk it up as a "life experience", Mr. Strawberry. :D Look at the bright side, at least this is a spaceship you mistakenly bought in a online game, at least it wasn't an actual expensive vehicle IRL. ;)

Next time you decide to buy a ship, as per Bond's suggestions, REVIEW the ship in the purchase window BEFORE you click the PURCHASE BUTTON, it will save you alot of grief next time around... If you want to check out of the list of available ships, sans the vanilla Freelancer ones, download the old Crossfire 1.7 manual on the SWAT site, it will give you the specs on all the available ships per Crossfire 1.7. (you're outta luck at the moment for available 1.8 ship info, you'll have to discover that yourself) Hope this helps! 8)

Hellraiser, you don't need Nvidia's Fermi to run Freelancer at high res or widescreen bro. Hell, I'm running on the best AGP there will ever be(ATI 3850 HD AGP w/512 DDR3) and It's allowing me to run Freelancer at 1680x1050 widescreen format on my Acer X223w at full 60 FPS nearly non-stop.
