Before the switch to the new server, there were these nicely formed messages broadcasted to players in regards to server rules, future events, etc:

Now, there are no more recurring messages, and whenever a player logs in the server, the below is the only console message he/she sees:

To reduce the number of situations like these I propose top bring back the console messages AND reword the content - put various individual RP rules, like the use of bats/bots during a PVP, or Arena rule, or the necessity of having a license, differences between license types etc.

I'm starting to compose a list of this kind of messages and will reply here when done - BUT let me know if there is a limit on the amount of console messages that the server can broadcast.

  • I personally like this idea, my advice is only to think few times about it and include only limited amount of messages.

  • I Like this Idea also

so I have no more 2 add

    Great Idea

  • Apologies for the late follow-up. I've had quite the headaches summarizing the Rules section into clear and short messages to not make it sound imperative or annoying.

I always believed that the software's well-composed documentation represents 50% of the product's success (eg: Amazon Web Services). And with this occasion, I'd like to express my respect to the person(s) that composed the text in the Rules section. The information is nicely crafted.

So, besides some summarized items in the Rules section, I've also added some lines that I consider useful, especially for the new players.

SWAT_OP-R8R if you still have access to the old broadcast message list, please enable the one about clans and the corresponding benefits. I've referenced this particular message in no. 6 below.

SWAT_OP-R8R & Huor Please check below some "quality-of-life" proposals to the hook commands:

    • "/clans" - It lists all the available clans and provides a link to the freelancer clans page?
    • "/tips on", "/tips off" - The player can decide whether to receive or not the automated broadcast messages.
      • This command is referenced in the proposed broadcast message no. 9.
    • "/rules" - Displays this message: "Check out the Crossfire Server and Role Play rules at https://swat-portal.com/forum/crossfire-server-rules-en"
    • "/events" (integration with swat portal required)
      • Displays the message: "Next event: " followed by the name, date, and server time when the next Crossfire event is scheduled.
        • Eg: "Upcoming event: 'Kill Lancelot's crack dealer' - Friday, 20:00 server time."
      • If there are no events in the event calendar, display the message: "Currently there are no scheduled events, check again another time."
      • If integrating the hook with the Portal cannot be done, then go with the lazy approach and only display the message: "Check the Events Calendar on SWAT Portal for upcoming events - https://swat-portal.com/forum/calendar/upcoming-event-list/"
      • This command is referenced in the proposed broadcast message no. 11

Alright, so my skills are far from the community "ambasadorism" level, so I request help from a qualified person in rewording the stuff below:

    1. This server is provided for people to play and enjoy the mod - common sense and mutual respect are key elements for this.
    2. For a list of all available FLHook commands, type "/help".
    3. Up to earn some easy millions? Check out when the next Crossfire Universe Tour event takes place by typing "/gti". Participate in this event to earn 1 million credits per visited system, and a bonus prize if you complete the tour in the given time.
    4. Bear in mind that people of all ages are playing this game. You must not resort to profanity and/or obscene language, regardless of the situation.
    5. Become a part of the Crossfire Role Play and choose to play the role that suits you best by mounting the corresponding license type on your ship. Each license type enables different actions for you to perform. Check out https://swat-portal.com/forum/crossfire-server-rules-en for more.
    6. <ADD here the clan message line from the previous broadcast system>.
    7. If you believe that you have been unfairly treated, penalties can be appealed. To appeal a decision, contact Server Police [GR] or Administration. Clan members should bring appeals to their clan leader.
    8. Idling for long periods of time is highly inconsiderate and may lead to disruptions in other players' gameplay. Players docked on bases will be automatically kicked after a specific period.
    9. Enable or disable receiving automated broadcast messages by using "/tips on" and "/tips off" respectively.
    10. PvP is disabled in the New York system. Experienced players may transit through this system or assist new players, otherwise, they should avoid this system.
    11. Various events are run on the server by EMs (Event Managers). While taking part in an event, role-playing rules are suspended. Type "/events" to check out the upcoming events.
    12. Reloading (using nanobots and/or batteries) during any sort of PvP fight (both sided agreement and/or role-play related fights) is prohibited unless both parties agree to it before it starts.
    13. English is the default language of Crossfire and should be the only language used in system chat.
    14. No matter what the role-playing situation is, if a player is fired upon first they have the right to defend themselves.

I have a good news and a bad news for you. The good news is that there is no bad news.

Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

Not sure if I qualify, but here are some adjustments:

    8. Idling for long periods of time may lead to disruptions in other players' gameplay. Players docked at bases are automatically kicked after idling for # minutes.

    9. To show or hide automated broadcast messages, type "/tips on" and "/tips off".

    10. PvP is disabled in New York system. High-rank players may transit through this system or assist new players. Otherwise, they should avoid New York.

    11. Various events are run on the server by event managers. Type "/events" to check the current event schedule.

    12. Reloading (using nanobots and/or batteries) during PvP fights is prohibited unless both parties agree otherwise.

    13. English is the universal language of Crossfire and must be the only language used in public chat.

    14. A player always has the right to defend themselves when fired upon.

P.S. SWAT_OP-R8R If possible, please set redirection from crossfire.swat-portal.com to Crossfire Website like before, so as to have an easy-to-remember address for ingame messages.

  • actually the redirect is still active
