Lol, I forget things so easily when I'm so disheartened, hehe :D...........
New idea for roleplay in the server.

well the idea is nice
but it worries me a little bit... i mean how do you want to make sure that everybody knows about which station/planet/system is sold
its an extreme high grade of management that is needed to get this running
and you know how lazy most players are... they dont like to read many rules and they wont read about which station belongs to which clan
especially when it is changingto give non server clans a system is also no good idea... why should they become a serverclan if they already have a system?
it has been said that clans would get up to 2 systems... well wouldnt that have a bad effect on the freelancers if they cant enter 20 systems instead of just 10?@crow - the clans own these systems because they keep the server alive... you will understand this as soon you need a server for the new mod^^
i dont want to disencourage somebody - its a cool idea indeed but its no concept yet
maybe it can be part of the new roleplay that centaurian is working out... maybe its too complicated to become reality yet
i cant say that atm
all i can say now is that there is no final decision about rp so nobody needs to worry yet -

that can only be done by mod updates

I too have read about this type of model. I liked it. I like the idea of clans fighting for control of systems and regions. Ops is right thought, it would take a high level of administartion to keep up current system ownership maps, etc. And unfortunately, I don't think it would fit our server.
Two other problems hit me immediately:
1) For a clan to control the California system, for example, a clan would need to own all 5 stations. This would mean having ships stationed at all 5 stations 24/7.
If you've played off hours and had to deal with the numberous ppl not reading the server rules and tresspassing on existing clan systems, you know why I say this would be impossible to defend.
2) We are a true 24/7 server, for example LPs have members in timezones ranging from GMT+2 to GMT-7. The types of clan battles described in this model is usually done with several days notice. And like our current events would exclude all those not in the appropriate timezone. No matter what time you chose for such a battle / event, a large group of players would not be able to participate.
I don't have answers for these issues, just putting them out there. Whatever RP rules the leadership agrees to, will need to fit our server and players.

FAO The Crow
There are many many trading routes out there, a lot dont even involve the new systems.
There are also other ways to make money. One of my characters has 79 hours on this server and the only new systems I have had a good look at is Casius (Clan System) and Neophobos (Free system at the moment.)
Try taking prisoners to Stuttgart or something - that is well known trade route.

Right now, "clan rules" are external and it creates a sense that there are two games running in the same universe.
The software is coded right now to recognize opposing groups and shoot at them - i.e. almost all NPCs (and NPC bases) shoot Xenos on sight. If I kill enough Blood Dragons, my rep with BD drops and I can't dock at BD bases anymore...
Why not use the same code that controls rep in the NPC world to work for clans as well? I would have a rep with each clan. If my rep wasn't good enough then I couldn't dock at their base and it would shoot at me. It would even be possible (?) to code NPC clan patrols around the base that would randomly generate like BD patrols or Liberty patrols do. The clans no longer have to run around complaining that people are breaking their rules when they aren't online.
Suddenly, the whole "clan rules" thing is really an integral part of the game instead of this "separate game". When a clan buys a base, they can set the rep levels of that base. When you buy the base you decide who your clan's enemies and allies are. The trick is that rep levels work both ways. Just like in the core game the Xenos hate everyone - so everyone hates the Xenos.

I monitor with interest the ideas presented across these boards with RP suggestions. By the end of my day today (GMT -7hrs), I will have posted a poll on the fundamentals of the ASF/CSF role play in its revised form. Many of the concerns expressed here will be addressed by the new structure, and the poll will give people a chance to influence the outcome.
Two key elements remain to restart this RP: the new RP Stat tool, which is 80% complete, and a revised political map, which assigns Sirius and CF systems to the factions. The bottom line for combat operations is that players will have to decide amongst themselves how individual battles will be conducted. There will only be a baseline default rule for allowing defenders to opt out of repeatedly being killed for the 24/7 aspect. Otherwise a mountain of rules, which tries to codify ALL possible battles will grind the RP down to a halt, again.
This will actually not replace the type of RP already occurring on the server. Every clan and freelancer should be playing their roles 24/7 anyway. ASF/CSF is only another layer of RP that is reserved for server clans. In fact, there is a place for limited involvement of freelancers and other clans as well, as you will see in the poll. But even with the ASF/CSF map division, there is ample room for faction clans, freelancers and unallied clans to act out their roles vs. each other.
Freelancers need to realize that just because a system is clan-owned, it is not necessarily closed. Just ask permission from a clan member online, and you will usually be granted permission, irrespective of the player's level. Remember to be good house guests, and respect system rules, and you will gain the quick credits you've been looking for
Yes, in fact, there will be two "games" running in the same universe! But this is not so far removed from the layers of involvement we experience in daily life. This is multitasking role play in a dynamic universe, and demands skill and attention to detail. Crossfire will test you if you are willing to embrace the challenge....

Ive seen this on other servers ,I have also seen pilots hunted down and killed for having ships and equip that they arent meant to have.
It wont make a freelancers life any easier whatsoever.
As to coding im not sure that is possible ,I have never seen it done like that myself.
Some parts of it are interesting especially if only BG allies could dock in BG space:) but that would then stop any below lvl 40 from docking either:(Without server clans supporting the server payments we would be screwed, and if any clan could get same benefits without paying why would anyone bother?
Its been a close thing in the pastI dont trade in Cust so many more lucrative trade routes elsewhere:)
Just random thoughts....

I get the whole serverclan thing, I was just taking a desperate shot at it. Lol, as for the coding, I'm pretty sure the simplest solution is best: clan members maintain a presence to enfore their policies and security. The coding would just add size to the already feature-laden mod and make things difficult for the admin (the number and frequency of updates would be appalling I'd imagine). It's a good idea, but it doesn't sound very practical, much less applicable. Hmm...
