Atleast we tried to help. From my point of view is important to work afterall. And the "filesharing shit" if we organize well can put any server "in the corner with finger in the mouth" but anyway its your call. I seen in real what this can do as i said is verry popular here, so far i havent seen anything better except if someone able to hire "super computer" from those that science labs have - it will be able to use higher bandwight alone.

EDIT: if i forgot to mention that actually torrent server dotn host anything - it coordinate the peers network for each file hosted. File is hosted by the peers connected for this particular file. The protocol is clever enough to download random parts so even if there is no seeder with 100% file it still continue to get missing parts for each peer connected even if others have less percent downloaded than you as example.

I dunno what to say about this situation...

I'm on Crossfire nearly sinds it begin and i saw several attaks on OP's work but NONE succeded in bringing him down. And now some absentminded tester has done what nobody could'nt ?
No, I thing there is more ! About more than a year OP has to fight against the immobility of ppl and that's a hard job !

The last weeks, OP has invest enormous quantities of time and energy in this mod, in his dream, maybe to much. So he is not able enough to bear this major failure caused by other. I think OP need a good rest and time to put thinks straight.

Deception is a bad adviser ! and i can imagine you are very diappointed but ppl are what they are.
Fortunately, in all these months ( and for some , years ) you have managed to keep many friends that will continue to support you as they did on several occasions when times where dark.

I'm shure, this time also we'll find a solution for this situation.
Why not take some of your trusted friends and test a newer version of your mod in a password secured server so you all can test all parts in peace, untill you are satisfied by the result ?

there is no reason to let pride get in teh way either, let this thing live how it will... filesharing is kinda low, but you gotta do what ya gotta do mate.

also the coalie ships: the models are great, the gun thing seems to not be that major, cant it be as simple as limiting the 2 slots to lvl 9 like all other ships?
and the gatlings... i havent even gotten to use them, but i thought allalong that the energy usage was waaaay to low... how hard is that to increace?

To share with torrents is a good idea actually, it isn't a shitty system like donkey or kazaa. And it even make things better since after the download it makes a hash check this way making it imposible to download corrupted files.

It works like that the Uploader makes the torrent file it is the first one and it calculates the hash from him.
When someone downloads it he begins to upload it too but with the original hash check, so even if there are thousands of downloads it won't corrupt the files.
The other good thing is that the speed is far grater then servers (atleast after the first couple of downloads). This is because if i have 200KB/s to Germany after i download it people from Bulgaria will download it with my speed wich is MB's, in other words it goes local across the world.

i just want to say that we all consider you a exelent mod creator, and you have all right to close CF. i dont agree that some people say to OP that is easy to fix that and to do that..... bla,bla,bla.Only OP knows how hard was doing the mod, and if he say's that is difficult to fix the bugs we can't criticize is job saying that is easy to fix!!!!!!. Of course that i want CF again but the decision is from OP. if you want any help i think we all do everithing we can to help you. And if your desicion is to close CF, i must give you the congratulations for your work.

i usually limit my torrent upload speeds to like 20kbps, mut my connection usually will hit 100 no problem, so i can unlock it some, and i have no transfer limit

the other night i downloaded 700mb in about 10 minutes i was pulling over 1mb per second... wow i didnt even realize that.... umm dang, my record high with my isp was like 1.6mbps download rate and almost 5mbps comm
anyway, enough bragging, i can upload pretty fast.

OK it was like this we had 4 days to conduct the testing the first day was mostly taken up with activation difficulties which op worked hard to fix.

on the second day in game testing began properly during which evidence emerged that several testers only wanted to mess around and see what was new and play around also we had trouble with limited funds so we could not test the ships. this proceeded through out the second day of testing and we reported EVERY bug we FOUND to op but due to the difficulties we faced we where extremely disadvantaged

the final day a 9 hour grid by grid search of the new DK systems was done after op had fixed some reps to be neutral with nomads and DK

so we had to test the whole of CF including 88 new ships in 3 days with little by the way of allocated funds and with uncommitted testers (by test the ships i mean every wep and equipment config not just fly it up and down for 5 mins) as you have seen the size of this mod i think most ppl will agree that this is an impossible task and that corners ended up being cut was inevitable

so if there was a failure during testing EVERYONE through out the process is to blame and in my view the testers who just fucked around and did nothing should hang their heads in shame at this latest chapter in the scandal's of CF (you know who you are im not gonna name names)

In a way im quite glad as my Mrs was going to divorce me due to the time i spent buying, selling and trying to get project cannons.

All us guys will still be here playing some other mod and harking back to the CF days.

Anyhoo, apart from that I agree, don't throw it all away OP, (I'm being a bit selfish I know) but we all love the server, lag/bugs or not. I heartily recommend some time off and a re-think. There is a great and loyal fan-base of CF and I for one (there are many) would hate to see it gone forever. I know it's your call mate, it's your baby and you don't want a bad server, but please at least sleep on it and ideally reconsider. But at least think it over.

What is going on? No more crossfire, just like that? This server runs and maintains the life and blood of freelancer. You're a legend OP; don't throw it all away because of this. Take time off, think it over, and relax m8. I've heard about beta testers screwing around. I know it doesn't really mean anything, but I stuck on task, even though I would have liked nothing more than to roam about sightseeing. During the testing phases of 1.6 and 1.61, I did as I was told, and I reported every bug I ever encountered. As far as the mod goes; it's still more delightful and fantastic than anything else I've ever seen. It's truly a marvel, and I still wish I could do something to lighten the burden resting on your shoulders (if there's something I could be doing, somebody please let me into the loop).

Why let the bad apples ruin everything for the whole lot? You've got to realize OP, there's a helluva lot of us on your side... If this truly is the end I will be disheartened, but I still won't lose any of my respect towards you. Even if the server stays down, I will not abandon CF; I'll stick to this place until the day the forums close (and even then I will haunt the DC page and play the 1.61 singleplayer). The fruits of your labors are incredible, and I'm left in awe trying to image all the time, resources, and inovative thinking that were devoted to it. My congratulations on the stunning FL legacy OP, I just hope that you'll continue to add to it.
