Ideas for Clans?

  • These thoughts sort of popped into my head an hour or two ago, and I'm pretty sure that they haven't been raised in previous threads (correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't actually search first :D ). My ideas ran along three lines: characters, weapons, and patrols.


    Firstly, when OP made his own customized character the other day (trent with redone BG uniform and whatnot) I realized how cool it would be if every member of a given clan could sport a common, unique uniform. I wouldn't expect this to be hard to do (but a little demanding of time). I think it would be awesome if clan members' ships could also have custom skins, but I don't think that would ever happen.


    As for weapons, I couldn't help but notice that almost every faction in FL has its own weps; why not clans too? Couldn't existing guns be copied, renamed, have thier stats slightly modified, and sold at a clan's bases? I think it would tempt players to use different guns (especially if the clan weps were on par with or slightly better than codename Mk IIs) and encourage RP.


    The last idea I had was to have NPCs patroling clans' systems having the name of the given clan. So instead of having Bretonian "Armed Forces - Cavalier"s flying through Tarsus, fighting Corsairs and whatnot, there would be Bretonian "CFPD - Cavalier"s instead. As a nice finishing touch, missions offered at a clan's bases could be provided by thier own faction (even though it would still be Border World Exports behind the label). So if one took a mission in Custodian, the job board in the bars would be filled with the same missions as before, but now they'd be offered by the BG, for instance.


    Anyway, I just wanted to see what people thought.
    If anyone has any input or further ideas along these lines, I'd love to see them posted here. These ideas aren't meant to be featured in any current project (I understand the near-impossibility of some of them), but my hope is that someone will like one of them and use it somewhere down the road, or maybe come up with something better...

  • and im not going to update the mod everytime a clan comes to the server or leaves... and you should also be aware that this would mean charwhipes coz of the weapons that have to be taken out of the game again if a clan leaves

  • I like very muvh of the ideia of having NPC's patroling cla systems.
    if a cla gets out, you remove them in next version, only that system can't be used for another cla.
    Us for wepons, what a better RPG issue than some weps stop to be sold and can only be found on another players.

    In my first post I was more interested in "just wanted to see what people thought" than "use it somewhere down the road." When I said "I understand the near-impossibility of some of them," I was refering to the chances of this getting into CF, not the possibility of coding it (just about anything can be coded). Sorry if I confused anyone. :P

  • if u mean by clans having both thier own ships and weps, i think that this would be unfair to FLs.the Colours mod has tons of these and the clans get all the best ships, while the FLs only get the "second grade" or next ship-down-the-list. this would possibly give clans a advantage over FLs.

    I never said ship classes, just skins 8o (a clan-owned shroud would have a different visual theme; clan-specific ship classes would create a massive rift between clans and fls).


    I already said that none of these were meant to be taken seriously, OP. My first post wasn't a suggestion for new mod features; I just wanted to toss everyone a few ideas to mess with :] . The point of my posting was to inspire something feasable out of someone else.
