These thoughts sort of popped into my head an hour or two ago, and I'm pretty sure that they haven't been raised in previous threads (correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't actually search first ). My ideas ran along three lines: characters, weapons, and patrols.
Firstly, when OP made his own customized character the other day (trent with redone BG uniform and whatnot) I realized how cool it would be if every member of a given clan could sport a common, unique uniform. I wouldn't expect this to be hard to do (but a little demanding of time). I think it would be awesome if clan members' ships could also have custom skins, but I don't think that would ever happen.
As for weapons, I couldn't help but notice that almost every faction in FL has its own weps; why not clans too? Couldn't existing guns be copied, renamed, have thier stats slightly modified, and sold at a clan's bases? I think it would tempt players to use different guns (especially if the clan weps were on par with or slightly better than codename Mk IIs) and encourage RP.
The last idea I had was to have NPCs patroling clans' systems having the name of the given clan. So instead of having Bretonian "Armed Forces - Cavalier"s flying through Tarsus, fighting Corsairs and whatnot, there would be Bretonian "CFPD - Cavalier"s instead. As a nice finishing touch, missions offered at a clan's bases could be provided by thier own faction (even though it would still be Border World Exports behind the label). So if one took a mission in Custodian, the job board in the bars would be filled with the same missions as before, but now they'd be offered by the BG, for instance.
Anyway, I just wanted to see what people thought.
If anyone has any input or further ideas along these lines, I'd love to see them posted here. These ideas aren't meant to be featured in any current project (I understand the near-impossibility of some of them), but my hope is that someone will like one of them and use it somewhere down the road, or maybe come up with something better...
