    Besides, would you imagine how much of a PITA would be switching the SA/VS RF to the NATO standarts?


    Speaking of standarts: until a certain time (IIRC it was an introduction of 9mm PM and its 9 x 18 mm round), most Soviet small arms had a 7,62 mm caliber with different rounds (7,62 x 25 mm for pistols/SMGs; 7,62 x 38 mm for Nagant revolver; 7,62 x 54 mm for rifles/MGs and later 7,62 x 39 mm intermediary).

    In addition; one of specific demands for the new low-impulse AR round (which would later become 5,45 x 39 mm) was to keep casing length at 39 mm.
