Yes I have already searched and there isnt an answer that helps.
I have never been able to see these roids ,last night with Rhone and Gunny we noticed the following in Custodian
1: Rhone in his miner could see roids and mined them got zilch ,he could bounce off it ect
2: I couldnt see it and i could fly straight thru where it was
3:Gunny then found one but neither Rhone or I could see it .
What can make them invisible and nonexistent to me ?
Why could Gunny see it and not us ?
Why could Rhone see another and we couldnt ?
Why couldnt Rhone get anything from the ones he mined?
We wanted to see if mining was profitable but it looks totally borked in some way
Im using a Radeon 4890 with 2gig mem and latest drivers,I tried DWs tip to add it to list but no listing there for my card anyway so nowhere to put it

There is this thread, where people who couldn't see them could "fix" that. (I remembered the thread, but found with searching "mega roid" )
Apparently your graph card is too new for the FL engine to recognize it.
Will quote it here:
QuoteFreelancer had it´s Release in 2003.
You might think, well, perfect my Grafic Card is from 2009 this Game will run perfect within my High End Gaming System.
But unfortunal this old Game may not recognise your Card.
For this Louva-Deus (cudos man) updated the File which is responsible for the detection of you grafics card on a regular base. Unfortunal the File is now outdated.
But it is not that hard to do it yourself.
Just follow this manual step by step to put your grafic card into the database, so the game will proper recognize it:
First of all you need the manufacturer and the vendor of your Grafics Card.
With a freeware Tool called GPU-Z it will be easy to find out:
1) Download this tool by using this GPU-Z Download Link .
It´s an exe file, you do not need to install anything. Simply doubleclick it whereever you downloaded it to (on Vista and above with Admin rights please).
You will see something similar like this:
The marked parts are what you need.
1) Now open your mypathtofreelancer\Freelancer\EXE Directory in your Explorer.
2) Search for a file named flconfigdatabase.txt and open it with for example notepad (if the file is write protected you need to disable the write protection first).
3) Search your manufacturer in the file - in my case NVIDIA
4) Have a look where your type of Card is listed - in my case GeForce
5) Scroll down to the last GeForce (or ofc. your Crads type) entry - in Crossfire 1.9 it´s:0x0398 = "GeForce Go7600 (??)" // added by Louva-Deus
for the GeForce Cards.
6) Now insert your Grafic Cards Vendor by using the second marked part of GPU-Z which is in my case 0A34 - simply put a 0x before and the correct name of your Card without the name of the manufacturer behind it so it will look like this for example:
0x0A34 = "GeForce GT 240M" // added by Daywalker
7) Save the File.
You will notice that several glitches will not exsist anymore. Also you will be able to see the Mega Asteroids which makes mining more profitable and some more things. In many cases where spawning NPC´s stucked the Game it also went away.
Have fun.

As I said I have already tried that ,there is no where to add my card using DWs method .There is no Radeon 4800 series listed so where do I put it ?
Also there are 2 places for the exe and flconfigdatabase in the FLMM cf1.9 directory and in the FL directory and in the FL one there are 2 files both text one is called flconfigdatabase.txt and is a FLMMBAK file the other flconfigdatabase and is a txt file .
now going by it being called flconfigdatabase.txt i have this listing//

This is what I need to insert 0x9460 = "Radeon HD 4800 Series" // added by Wavey
in the second file only Radeon Mobility are listed which is no good to me ,not even the other Radeon cards are listed in this file:(
Where do I place my details from GPU z? does it need to be added to both or just one of those files ? if just one which oneStill doesnt explain why Rhone can see a roid and Gunny cant and vice versa cos obviously they can both see mega roids just cant see the same ones?
-
I think asteroids spawn as per induvidual players. Megaroids are the same as normal asteroids, but with a larger model, more loot and lower chances of spawning i guess.
-
I tried adding it under the mobility cards listed but doesnt do anything which isnt a suprise and im not going to use an old driver as the ones that are supported are not even available for my card and I like playing newer games which need the latest .
-
You have to add your card in that file, as a new card, as of course it's not already in that list as it's not supported. If it was in that list you wouldn't need to do anything.
Now, on the details... dunno, as I haven't needed it, so I never done it. sry
Maybe OP can help, if you have patience.
-
Im gonna look into it ,i used to have a link to a post Louva made about how to do it but lost that years ago
-
they are client side with other words... it is impossible that 2 players see the same roid
-
wavey i know how it works now. so please whisp me ingame

Ok I have figured out how to make a new entry ,did it in all 3 files and now it works ,I can see the roids.I will post details inna bit showing what i did

(look below Mobility Cards list)However after that I had some problems with planetary rings. The setting found out to affect it was Catalyst A.I. - when you disable it, the rings are back.
Also, when it is disabled by default and there are no rings, you will need to enable it and then disable again.
I'm mentioning it because I don't actually know whether it affects anything else - maybe the rings were just the most noticable. It can be the reason why you add your card to the file and still see no megaroids.
The only thing I know for sure is that I see both rings and megariods nowHope it will help you too.
Edit: sorry, look like I'm late with my post
-
ty for putting that into an expandable menu Cresthen O_o
-
I havent checked planetary rings yet so thx for info ,catalyst does affect some games ive played b4 ,will see if rings are ok as mine is enabled.looks like your way was just a bit easier lol,but maybe mine may work for others 2 .
@OP I hope just changing these isnt against the rules ?
rings are ok 4 me with catalyst ai on -
They are not against the rules, as the game has to adapt to your computer if otherwise won't work (making the PC work with the game).
And gives no unfair advantage over others. -
Yeah it gives a disadvantage... Where people can fly freely, you ram into a megaroid.
-
Disadvantages are not against the rules either, you can even use a 3 inch monitor to limit yourself
-
well i could fly straight thru an invisble roid but rhone could see it so he could avoid it ,they are quite big!
