To settle down?

  • This topic has been stuck in my mind for a while and wanted to ask this community how they feel about this topic.

But first my gaming life story (if its tl;dr just skip it and look at my question below):

I've always played online games seriously and at time also competitively. Started with CS at a very young age and with 10-12 years I was part of a pretty descent German clan doing good in different leagues (such as Stammkneipe). Then of course I was and still am part of BloodGuard since 2003 (with breaks in between; I'm not aware of all the clans of the FL community but BG is undoubtedly still, in terms of actual clan wars and amount of members, one of the most successful clans up to date. I was also part of a clan in Helbreath; the other game where some people from BG were active. And we were pretty hardcore and soon became the biggest and maybe strongest clan on the side of our race.
Then 2005 I quit CF and went on Veteran status in BG and started playing WoW. Things got pretty serious when I joined a good clan in the summer 2005 and we started raiding instances. It was only by accident that I ended up on one of the top 10 servers world wide in terms of raid progress... and ultimately I was part of one of the more popular guild in the WoW universe amassing epic items and raiding almost every evening from 7 to 11, or even 12. (our competitive Horde guild at that time had some impressive results and harcore gamers... some of them ended up in Nihilum for e.g. - if anyone knows who they are)

Yeah yeah, I'm bragging etc tralalala. My point is that I was always part of a hardcore clan taking shit seriously achieving mostly satisfying but mostly good results. Now I feel the urge of playing a gaming seriously again... and be a part of something big again. Sure I'm still part of BG but our reputation is long gone...

Does anyone else feel this urge to settle down in a game (again)? To meet other new hardcore gamers who know what the game is about... what they need to do and what they shouldn't do? Not a bunch of annoying n00bs who fuck up everything all the time?

Sadly, I don't have time for that... yet (hopefully in the future)

I'm thinking of games like Battlefield 3 or even start an MMO again... Guild Wars 2... or maybe be even part of a multi-gaming clan and just switch if I feel like it.

    Whats on your mind?

  • yeah, i can understand your point
I was in 3 clans so far and all of them could only be described as "best" and actually nothing than the best i would aim for.
And right there is the problem.

Ive not yet found a game which pleases me.

Ok I want to be serious with my answers - but what is the reason you are targeting at with doing so? Well i will partly quote - i know unpopular habbit of me ;)

You say BG is one of the most successful clans up to date. Guess you (BG) is not only active in Crossfire - but where else if i may ask for my interest? How would you explain being successful in a gaming clan? I believe there are different measures. With that others might be as well successful for their aims and their way of playing ;D

Havent you told that BG is one of the most successful clans up to date - how's that if your reputation is long gone? Have you obtained that much reputation and have won so many serious conflicts that you meanwhile still can nourish from it? Just asking. If you have the feeling of being member of something big where you can obtain fun, good battles, whatever you want to have - what has this community to do with it. Especially what weight might have our opinion then? I guess this community (unfortunate) has not such a clan here where you could be happy with - unless BG of course.
I dont understand why people could be soo goopy about being in something big, have successful battles, doing whatnot for raids about several hours. If you are not a game by profession than what do you actually get from it? You sweat during battles because you have to concentrate, you are exhausted after playing several hours...
That's not what i would understand by gaming. Mostly gaming for me is relaxing - having fun (ok you do have your fun too). Dont get me wrong - there is nothing wrong with the feel of necessity being a member of something big (hello facebook users ;D). If you want to be member of something big - then apply there. Be happy if you got your license and search for alternatives if you failed ;)

Does anyone else feel this urge to settle down in a game (again)? To meet other new hardcore gamers who know what the game is about... what they need to do and what they shouldn't do? Not a bunch of annoying n00bs who fuck up everything all the time?

I feel the urge to finish my work everyday - because thats what keeps me busy and covers my costs ;) Sure i am playing - but then for just a few hours and mainly to have fun - and not for being member of something big - that has no relation to real life. Actually there is nothing i could get from such a clan, do i?

Sadly, I don't have time for that... yet (hopefully in the future)

You have studied and are still studying law, dont you? How do you feel you would have more time in the future? Thought lawyers are those who have a 12 - 14 hours per day job ;D

I'm thinking of games like Battlefield 3 or even start an MMO again... Guild Wars 2... or maybe be even part of a multi-gaming clan and just switch if I feel like it.
    Whats on your mind?

You can find my mind above. Nevertheless i would gladly know - why you ask this community? Do you want to found something like this here?

    signature.png

  • lawl dude in all honesty you should've send me a PM, I won't answer all your questions but:

Why am I asking this to the community? Why not? Why do you ask a person 'how are you today'?
I'm only interested if there are other gamers who feel the same as I do. I don't seek anything in particular.

And why do you make such an ignorant remark '...that has no relation to real life'? Seriously dude?

Being part of a student organization, belonging to a Schützenverein, being part of a an amateur football club, being a member of a golfclub, being part of a gaming clan? What exactly is the difference?

Ultimately, it's all about having fun; sure the things people do in my examples differ... but in the end aren't you always socializing, being competitive and wanting to achieve something that makes you smile?
You constantly get to meet new people... you face new challenges... it's all the same dude and certainl ALWAYS has a relation to real life. Sorry but if you do not realize that and you see 'gaming' as a waste of time with no relation to life then you should open your eyes.

And sweating in battles? I FUCKING LOVE battles and certainly love sweating, owning people while achieving greatness together with other people whom you are in a clan - the same people you relax with.

I clearly see that you have never been part of a successful clan and have never been really competitive in gaming - so your response does not surprise me.

While you do not understand 'why people could be soo goopy about being in something big, have successful battles, doing whatnot for raids about several hours' I in return do not understand why people don't fucking understand that? Where is the fucking difference to competitive stuff in real life?

Some people like competition... and I am one of them. I couldn't relax playing online if I get constantly owned everyhwere. I simply need to know that I can own others whenever I feel like it, become better etc... You can't tell me that you have never felt that way.

ps: I meant BG as one of the most successful clans in FL obviously.

  • You shall be in as many clubs as you want, having as many friends as you want. That you should clearly be.
Heck, you also may choose to belong to something big ;)

What i meant is: What does it bring to my life if i "own" people in games? Does that make me anything better than them? Sure everyone feels delighted to win one or another game. Even me ;)
But for some reason i also learned to loose - even with purpose - just to make someone else winning a game. Hence, i cant understand what people make you so fanatic or proud of "owning" others in games.

I myself often smile about people - maybe of your kind in games - who kill me 2, 3 or even 10 times in a row. Thinking they are somewhat great in killing people ;) And i could continue doing that 1000 times in a row.
Maybe somewhen the other side will realise that its getting boring too^^ Doesnt matter. Please do what is in your favor - no matter if that means "owning" others to achieve - dunno a better bribe - somewhere in gaming communities.

No I wasnt yet in a very competitive clan, but that has numerous reasons - mostly because I dont want to - mostly because it has no advantage for me. I believe also people outside of clans are competitive or successful in their achievements playing a game. You wanted to have feedback - hence you asked us all - thatswhy i didnt told you by PM. I know i have a different point of view on this. Others also have different opinions. We are here to share what we think, arent we?

    signature.png

  • What it brings to my life if I 'own' people? Why exactly do you bring up such a question when I am talking about something completely different? You clearly misunderstood what I am on about here.

Owning people is part of the fun you have ingame, why else do you play a game? To get killed every single time by the same guy over and over? Where exactly is the fun in that? Do you play a game to lose? Is that how you define your fun in a game?
So you are one of those people that play game without any purpose whatsoever other than to 'relax' and you 'smile' at those that are better than you? Interesting. Kinda makes me sad btw.

What exactly are you on about and what do you want to tell me with your post? Because I only see you mocking people who take gaming seriously, want to be in a top clan, have fun with those people, and trying to own the competition.

But hey, everyone has a different perception of things, right?

    Fleet Captain Spiky / WL

  • Right! You asked if someone else feels the urge to be part of a serious online gaming clan, to serious play a game, to achieve good results.

Didnt i already say that you shall do what you want to do. If that means being a member of a successful clan - then so be it. Your choice and hey if you feel happy - do it. Really, it doesnt bother me - either if you do or not.
To answer that question. I dont feel the need - and to explain why i would choose so can be taken from my previous statements ;)
I hope you find your clan - so that you can have fun again in playing games!

    This remained unanswered until now...
football club improves your legs, golfclub improves your arms, gaming clan improves your brain (and soul for who believes in ;) ), that's the difference :D

Spiky: Seems you got overloaded with kill kill kill and getting bored of that kind of competition now... then go play Sims, or Economic wars :P

:) Indeed. You know me and my complete lack of pilot/battle skills in this game...yet I still play here. Real life is mostly filled with pressure and stress from job/school/family/peers etc. With practice, I could become a very good player but...I don't really need the pressure to get good and stay good. I don't need the pressure and stress to "stay on top". I'm quite happy with my 20% kill ratio. I mostly get killed but sometimes I'm the one doing the killing and yes, it's by the same guys over and over again. And I laugh every time it happens. :D I play Crossfire to relieve the stress and pressure of daily life, not to create more of it. Thus, I may never become what you call a "serious gamer". In my humble opinion, games are not meant to be serious...they are meant to be fun...win or lose.
