Only dead fish swim with the stream.
Don't discuss with idiots. They only drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience there.

  • First impessions after a few battles :

After I participated in a few battles already I decided to share my opinion.

Missles spam still exists even though we have cooldown on missles now. People are rarely using guns 1v1. Guns are only being used in big fights where you can track someone who is fighting another person. When missles refuse to track ( we all know it happens ) people are quitting the fight.

If you are fighting 2v1, and you're the only person in this case, your "Incoming missle" and "Incoming torpedo" alerts will be the only thing you will hear.

When fighting 1v1, having even simple guns skills will be your key to victory. I noticed that people aren't even trying to dodge anymore. It's easy to dodge missles when you fire CDs but don't even think about dodging weapons.

Could add a few more, but at the moment I`m being distracted, but I`ll for sure continue after that :)

  • Why use guns when you can kill someone in one single hit with 3 missiles? ( we all know the setup). With the current subtargeting exploit, that's all it takes. Secondly, guns are largely ineffective in current pvp style of the constant dodging and corkscrew type piloting, unless pilots are using another exploit which is discussed in another thread recently.

I personally would like to see 2 missiles being the maximum allowed on fighters and the subtargeting removed, but thats my opinion.

  • Yea, missles are mostly ruining the PvP. Last night we had a fight between PX and UR and I can say that I totally ate some of the people with the following setup :

Shroud with lvl10 shield, without shield upgrades, armours or weapons upgrades ( those energy stuff ).

    So, there's still hope ;)

The problem is the way of thinking here. You are saying - if the Missiles refuse tracking because of whatever reason, i start to use Guns - which is the only way if you don´t want to withdraw. It´s my way to act too.
Others are thinking: when i have adapt myself to the enviroment i can not play like i want so i stop. Which is understandable from another side.

    But:
If some of us would think this way nobody would fight someone from far away anymore or with shared connections because the Missile tracking on those Players is realy awfully too.

    Gunny
Having no subtargeting is somehow way off realistic cause also modern Jets are using this while in the Game we are 1000 years later. If i want that kind of game i can better play first person shooters, which btw. mostly also have weapons which are tracking - thinking of Unreal, Quake and others. But FL is an Action Sim where Weaps are the way they are and Missiles do track from time to time. The disadvantage of a Missile Fighter is it´s amount of possible shots and the costs of these loads. Guns do not have this disadvantages if you are able to dodge the Missiles a Gun FIghter would be ultimativ - and we had some of these Players in the past. Adapting the fighting style to the enviroment is imO the only possibility.

I am using the same setups since years now - and i am still lucky with it, where the enviroment changed often in these years.

Just for the records, we was hired.

When everything turned into a missle fight, it was close to impossible for me to survive because of the lag because of my weak graphic card. Back then I ragequit for a few months because I couldn't believe how people were able to take me down in a few turns.

After that, I realised that if I can't find a way to learn to fight with the new methods, I must find a way to counter-attack it. And I did. Now instead of firing a torpedo against you, I`m using your own torpedo to either take down your shield or make you suicide, because my torpedo carries the danger to explode right next to me and kill me, while your torpedo carries the danger to reach me ;)

Husker, I'd love to try some guns only fights :) After that we can try all as well

EDIT : yes, the Phoenix Project Cannon used to be the most popular weapon lol

    old school.

In essence a PvP is fairly well balanced for FL. 60-90-180 sec.
My complaints go over to the other side but would not now about it.

Daywalker is right. But Gunny's remark has a place...

  • i am glad to see old veterans returning to CF, but you guys need to realize many things have changed.
we also have to "adapt" to the new changes
First of all most players use the same setup as 1.7. (3 missiles and 3 guns). some players use 4 guns 2 missiles and some simply use 6 guns.
all this configurations have their pros and cons.
If missiles dont track more guns are usefull
When missiles tracks, gunners have more troubles to kill but that also depends on your skills.

So things are a balance and everyone has the right to choose what to use. the "old school" "only guns" "too many missiles spam" etc etc.. remenber me the old days that i dont miss that much...

Imo things are very balanced. all players have an oportunity to choose and others have to respect theirs choices and not complain "like the old times"

    just my 2 cents :D

  • Hi Raven.

Let's make things clear - I`m not complaining, I`m just sharing my opinion.

I`ve never said that people should start using guns only. And it doesn't really matter if the missles are tracking or not, it's all down to the skills. Even if your opponent launches his missles perfectly, one button pressed in the right time can take him down.

Also, I`ve never said that I`m not respecting the choice of the rest to play with tons of missles, but I don't respect people who quit the fights with the complaint that "missles are not tracking", well learn to play with guns damn it.

  • Not again oldy-newy... we talk about the configurations.

In fact you can make excellent -guns- setup with 150 cd :) PPC were obsolete according to some new babies(you can borrow some pieces from my store...just to feel)
You will see when you come to the stage of the choice of the ship... brrr ...

  • Actually PPCs have great refire rate with the Gatts. It's not exactly rapid fire, but it's still almost perfectly cover fire.

  • I have not tested but I think they are imprecise at near distances ... but great sound...Luke feel the Power.

  • Haven't used sub-targetting at all in 1.8 (... I am actually too lazy to click on sub-target)

In 1.7 sub-targetting meant that the missiles would follow the target, provided that the target would be visible the whole time, much better than without

Is that still the same in 1.8? Why do missiles track better when certain parts of the ship are sub-targetted? Am I pr0 or n00b because I never use(d) sub-target? Is it better to sub-target licence or adv. countermeasures now? Also why do people use 3 missiles when they know that it lags like shit?

  • I want to know why is it when you subtarget a specific component, that 1 paralyazer 1 cat & 1 nem will completely destroy you. Thats new in 1.8.
