  • ok this is the dumbest thing ive ever experienced on windows

My wireless works just fine, then after turning on the laptop again after a few hours the wireless button does not work anymore (in this case FN + F2 ... got an ASUS N61JV)

I already checked the internets and apparently some people have the same problem (not only ASUS but also sony and these other crappy companies) ... I checked the network drivers and I got the latest athero one (I - most probably - have an atheros network card) ... deinstalled it, installed it again, deinstalled shitty wireless console 3 (ASUS thing with which u can turn on wireless and bluetooth) ... it is supposed to fix it

but it doesn't; whenever I press FN + F2 and whenever I click on WLAN it just disappears again (as u can see in the pic)

    WAT DO? HELP PLOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IM A STUDENT AND WITHOUT THAT FEATURE IM SCREWED (obviously plugging ethernet cable works but thats not a solution)

  • which IP? the laptop static IP? internet connection IP? O_o im like not living alone so I don't want to screw up the whole thing

also how to change it pl0x ?

and what windows wireless thingy? its as if this laptop wouldn't even have a wireless option, windows does not even recognize it and just tells me its off... thats the problem

funny how this just worked fine in the library this morning

    how I love windows sometimes

  • as you know the last time it was working, you can try a system restore. (start / programs / accessories / system tools / system restore... run it and choose yesterday in the wizard)

if that doesnt work, you can try to disable the wireless card in BIOS (if BIOS allows that), start windows, reboot, enable it again, and let windows to find it again
i fixed some VAIOs that way in the past... i thought they had fixed that shit on w7 :/

  • as for the windows thingy - i have a intel network card. there is a program - kinda overlay above the windows management control. I can either use this tool from intel or the windows delivered tools. It was just an idea. I dont know this asus board. Although ASUS is not the cheapest supplier of boards - it may be you got an ee pc ;D

  • Check the router? check device manager for any conflicts when your wlan button disappears again.

check all your wireless config settings and do a repair and check the event viewer for issues.

Spiky, you need to diagnosis the problem by eliminating known problems and solutions, until you can narrow down the specific issue.

Software first, then hardware checks. good luck ?(

  • I have almost the same laptop (N71JA series), with the same wireless options and it works just fine... better contact the manufacturer, I doubt you'll get an answer here

edit: just read Spiky's final posting... HAHA

    1. either Spiky was pulling our leg and he was just trying to create a funny thread (explaining why it got placed under OFF TOPIC)
    2. or he doesn't have less issues than 99% of the people around here as he claims to have

    Either way I'm ecstatic :D

But I'm curious though... why are you screwed without your wireless...
I'm guessing you have standard ASUS Lion 4400mAh 6-cell battery, lasts only about 2 hours multitasking, so even if it is a portable computer it still spends most of the time plugged onto an ethernet cable (or at least plugged in an outlet, and if there's an outlet around, there's usually an ethernet port around as well). I don't see why you're so screwed even if all this were true.

1 more thing: When I was talking about my HD 5730 card on my laptop you said "You also have that card?", but you have an N61JV series laptop... they don't have that card, they have GF cards (325m/330m/335m), were you lying? I won't judge you, I just want to see if my ability of recognising lies still works ;)

  • pl0x, tell me how you can accidentally delete windows looking at internet files :D except deleting everything...

  • deleted everything with some ASUS program but got windows back

anyhow the WIFI problem is still there...

only possibility is a hardware defect or the antenna is broken, going to have a look insidie tmw

and diablo n00b I have the N61JV with a HD 5730, where the hell do you get your false infos from? (as a law student you should try to avoid that kekekeke)

  • glad to hear you solved your tiny problem...curious though as to why this wireless switch exists in the first place...

the small things (minds) are quite often the biggest problems, just look at some of the replies you got...
