Crossfire 1.82 Progress

  • Since the work on the new CF version already started i decided to create this thread to give a short overview about the progress we make/made.


    The active work on CF1.82 will start in about one week while im currently preparing everything and doing tests.



    Major issues are the AV problem and some crashes.
    I was able to find the reason for the false AV warnings and a theoretical fix for it. However i am not a coder so I leave the fixing to those which know what they are doing. First tests showed that we are on a very good way.
    The game crashes meanwhile have been analized... without real result. I been trying to do changes on the mod that I feel to be "more correct" with the chance of finally fixing those problems but so far without luck... this issue for sure will take much more time and alot of testing.


    I personally expect that it takes at least 4 weeks to get the new version of the mod done... and i need as many players online as possible since im will run updates and do tests on the server under realistic conditions to verify my own offline tests.


    completly fixed are the Sol warp buoys which now should cause less problems with battleships and which now have seperated upper and lower lanes


    futhermore the decision was made to replace the current nav maps and go back to the roots. The new maps will be more detailed and based on the vanilla maps.

  • Question. Will the udate still be called Crossfire 1.81 or will we all have to down load a new on e called 1.82 or whatever. I don't mind to be honest, I was only wandering.


    And I hope it all goes to plan, But I'm guessing this is just fixing up the mod, Nothing new like for example being able to see other online players in the bar. That would be pretty cool.

  • How could it be impossible? It's like in space but in a bar, Even if it just said that So 'n' so is here and had a sign over a random blokes head then you would know they were there and it would be like you were talking to them.
    But It will be hard. yes.

    they are just some scripts and dont even belong to the game world
    its not even supported by the game engine nor by the net code

    In your path of astronomer(if you follow it) you'll know math fizics perfectly, and programming pretty well ^^
    Still, for that you also need a resistend body...

  • You saw what a bar is ? just a file with how walls are colored and spots which call NPC's arm face stuff and voice... theoretically is not practically... still...
    THIS IS NOT THE TOPIC ! And you know 1.82 is Just to fix every known bug and make few things with more quality, not to add stuff ^^

  • - some changes on navmap icons have been done
    - the work on the AV issue is ongoing
    - sol warp buoys got fixed
    - several errors on custom planets got fixed


    currently im spending 6-8 hours per day doing crash tests to find the source of the current instabilities

  • After one week of testing it appears that ive finally found the error source on the sol system.
    Last evenings test were positive and michael is doing a confirmation test today.


    Sol was one of the biggest issues that had to be solved... if everything goes well ill be able to release another patch through the launcher which finally get rid of this problem and turns sol back to its normal state that it had after the CF1.80 release in january.



    Additionally recent observations showed that currently the server appears to be running more stable after the past update. Further observations are needed to get more clear results... after such a short time its not 100% possible to say if the initial observations are correct and remain this way.




    The work on the AV issue unfortunatly has reached a problematical point... there is alot of coding involved and so far only huor was able to work on that issue (which is very complicated).

  • Would 1.82 be easier to install than 1.81?
    And at this rate, when do you think it'll be finshed? I'm so excited.
    Final thing, I'm not sure if this is an ok place to say this but if you uninstall FLMM without deactivating all the mods what happens? And if it's bad, how do we fix it, (As you know, Crossfire is so big, it entwineds it self with all other Freelancer stuff so you actually can't uninstall it too well.)

    Could you give me a link to a website or maybe an actuall person ould be great....... Thank you in advance and for the reply.

  • FLMM was developed 7 years ago
    since that no progress has been done to that tool and the developer is not available anymore

  • if you uninstall FLMM nothing is changed on your mods. They remain activated in the last state before you uninstalled FLMM.
    The more important question would be - what happens if you install it again. As far as i know FLMM would again make all mods acivatable - and thats an point where you probably would run into confilcts as an already activated mod wont activate again and probably other mods wont activate again as the structure of the previos activated mod wont fit to the structure of the currently to activating mod.


    Hence either you decide before you activate a mod for proper install routines and an own mod structure on your harddisk or you have to make a clean install everytime again. I would prefer the first one as thats the one with less work to do^^

  • We appreciate all your hard work into Crossfire with this coming update OP! I really like the new nav map now, it's actually much clearer to read now without all the stuff going on in the former background.


    I kinda freaked out last night with some of the missing stuff in Sol,(asteroid belt, 31st Order Fleet near Dim gate) but now I know what's going on! :D:thumbup: I also noticed the server was up without one crash while I was online yesterday. :thumbsup:
