Hello Fuffud and welcome at server and in CF Universe
Take a look bellow and u will see "similar threads"
As usually u need to turn off ur AV and firewall during downloading and installation.
the keywords are "as soon as it was installed"
so the download did work
now you should remove your old savegames since they are not compatible with the mod (that will fix your problem)
But I did that before I even downloaded it.
Thats not the case now, I've found out I need to activate it on flmm but half way through the activating the manager dosen't respond.
Any thoughts at all?
Be patient, activation process can last for a while.
but it actually say's "not responding"
I've uninstalled everything and retried but the same thing has happened And now I feel like I've done this for nothing
I know how u feel, it's up to you what u will do now.
Be persistent and your efforts will be rewarded
Clean, clean, clean and use use use SEARCH function in the forum
Quotecheck if u use the FLMM 1.31 u might need to delete the saved games (My Documents/My Games/Freelancer/Accts) - don't forget "restart.fl" or any other file in there - if those files r remains from another mod: they r incompatible... also u find the Crossfire Guide here: http://www.swat-portal.com/portal/download/CFguide.swf - check the "Installation Instructions" chapter for a clean install, please
And also try without AV and firewall during installation...as i said before!
Tell us if this help you?
Welcome Fuffud.
The FLMM is not responding after half way Only because it's to busy loading the huge mod, but it does work, as it's not responding to you, but for the mod yes.
If you don't want to wait 10 minutes with flmm not moving, there's a secret, that if you don't move your mouse neither a keyboard button in the time it arrives to the half then to the end, you will see the loading bar slowly loading, but you'll see it loading until the end, with no bugs. But if you click on it (or move the mouse above the bar ) it will stop responding you, like saying "Hey, don't disturb me, don't you see I'm busy ? " xD
The first half bar part is just a test to see if the mod is compatible, the second half part is when it starts loading the mod, and it has a LOT to load. That's wy , the first half only takes 1, few minutes, and second part can take 10 minutes or more.
So, about the loading, trust is it IS loading, jut too busy to respond, the mod once installed is 4 GBytes, something that takes a while to create
Also, if you're on Windows Vista, start FLMM as administrator usually fix any issue.
Wait... It worked! I did it
(plays crossfire for several hours)
Wow this is harder than the first one.
Is it mean't to be like this?
I can't even kill a rouge without using everything I've got.

Wow how did you know that?
LOL yes Mich has a right, do not play with PC while activating the mod, in short do not touch anything and repeat in ur slf: "I want to believe, i want to believe, i want to believe..."

You have no idea how hard it really is. CF has some nasty badass NPC's, and believe me they will love to devour your pilot flesh anytime you enter their space.
Be prepared before you take on these aliens...or you'll be sorry.
BTW I still haven't been able to kill any hostile Dom's...I guess this is preparing me for MP...I used to be such a nice pilot...Oh well.

very true, i saw this with my own eyes...terrible scene...RiP brave pilots
yes, but you can also get high class equipment to face off most of the NPCs
here the game is not how many thousands of Rogus you kill... it's how many minutes you live in nomad or alien zones xD More fun in less time.
Wow how did you know that?
Experience, modding, time.... it depends
I'm at a friends house and I'm trying to install Cossfire for them. They have tryed for a month or so but sucsses. So I came along and copied my crossfire installer over so the could install it with mine, but it still didn't work. (They can't even download the crossfire installer.)
A virus threat appear's every time we try to activate it. (On the flmm) And it say's that the activation fails.
Any Ideas?
HELP!!!!
Deactivate the antivirus while installing and/or add exceptions (installer folder and freelancer folder). Also, do check the topics, there are already about 5 other topics concerning AV problems and false positives.
I don't think that is going to work.
I didn't have to do that with mine, but I can't even go onto mod manager without having to install Freelancer and when I do get it working it says Error: FLMM has determind that the crossfire mod will not activate. This was only a test run..... (So on so forth)
Any ideas?
The easiest way to solve this anti-virus problem is to play a different mod.
However, if you want to enjoy Crossfire's excellent features, then you will have to do some work.
1) Turn off the virus checker completely before installing Crossfire.
2) Check quarantined files. If any of the Crossfire files have been quarantined, then restore them (or delete them). Quarantined files from previous installation attempts may interfere with future installation attempts. I ran into this problem with Symantec AV.
3) Install Crossfire.
4) Exclude the Freelancer tree, FLMM tree, and setup folder (where you keep the installer).
5) Only then should you turn the virus check back on.
Good luck!
I have thad hat problem before too and no, CF didnt install properly every time I tried. One thing that helped was to change the security setting of FL and the mods folder in FLMM. Make sure that EVERYONE and EVERYTHING has access to read, write, and modify these folders. If I were you I would try:
1) a fresh and complete install of FL
2) fresh install of FLMM
3) extraction of CF 1.8
4) changing the security settings of FL and FLMM mod folder
5) activate CF (using FLMM)
There might be easier ways, this is what has worked for me so far
Good luck
What works for me, I just install the mod manager as administrator and then the mod crossfire as admin too, no need to turn the anti virus off if both are installed as admin. What you do is run the antivirus when downloading both mod manager and crossfire and make sure you have mod manager 1.3 , mod manager 1.4 dont work on crossfire 1.8 hope that this helped.
