What operating system use your friend? ..be sure you use administrator rights when install game.
Run CFguide.swf and carefully read instructions.
Use fresh instal FL, FLMM and CF: this needed: Completely uninstall all other mods and FL. Don't forget about FL folders on C:\Documents !!! ... (I advise use system search for "Freelancer" at your system disk.)
Use sw as is ccleaner and clean registry.
Restart windows and begin with install.
Disabling AV before start with install is wise
Here is my settings for AV (NOD32) and I have no problems with playing or run CF.
