you can check every ship before u buy it.
Yes, when you select a ship to buy it, you can see all what the ship has, and how it will look before pressing the 'buy' button. You can see it's real cargo, the real weaponry lvls and whatever, except armor.
Anyway, you jsut experienced another ship 
Chalk it up as a "life experience", Mr. Strawberry. Look at the bright side, at least this is a spaceship you mistakenly bought in a online game, at least it wasn't an actual expensive vehicle IRL. 
Next time you decide to buy a ship, as per Bond's suggestions, REVIEW the ship in the purchase window BEFORE you click the PURCHASE BUTTON, it will save you alot of grief next time around... If you want to check out of the list of available ships, sans the vanilla Freelancer ones, download the old Crossfire 1.7 manual on the SWAT site, it will give you the specs on all the available ships per Crossfire 1.7. (you're outta luck at the moment for available 1.8 ship info, you'll have to discover that yourself) Hope this helps! 
Actually, it also says this ship turns good. when in fact, its one of the worst turners, i swear some battleships turn faster. A complete dog of a ship, and completeley useless eccept as target practice.

I think what bullwinkle means is that if you are interested in a ship you have found, it might be benficial to you to ask around (pm people) and see what their opinion is of that ship.
