New parts have arrived from the deep space supplier! Now running an AMD Phenom II x4 3.2 GHz! Using the on-board video [ATI Radeon 4250 - 1GB] but it's way better than my junker which had an Intel P4 Celeron and 128 MB video. Back up to full speed resolution and no screen lag! Yay for me! Next month, picking up a 2BG video card and will be travelling at the speedof light! Woot!

Good to hear Rex! But you're not gonna need a 2 Gb framebuffer video card to get the most performance,(especially for Freelancer) you want to pay attention to the GPU speeds/FLOPS it can do and the memory speeds instead.(and it might save you some cash as well with a cheaper card) Even my lowly 3850 HD AGP card will run Freelancer at 1680x1050 rez with little to no frameskipping and it's only got a 512 meg framebuffer. I see the Radeon 4250 HD is most likely an integrated on-board video card, is this correct Rex?

Here's a great review site, with a comparison of my card and the Radeon 4350 HD card:

    Hope this helps!

Those shows were cancelled because of the redundant story lines. Creativity has come to halt with most sci-fi writers and most shows have become dependent on the special-effects to keep audiences entertained.

This. To some degree... Let's face it folks, Hollywood has long since run out of original ideas, particularly with sci-fis over the past years... Sci-fi flicks also are not popular enough compared to the other mindless, drivel TV series that is driven by a dumbed down society... I.E. shit like Twilight, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, of which the majority of our country seems to be hopelessly fixated on... Vampires and vampirism, with a little werewolf added in here and there for a predictable plot tool. *facepalm*

To give you an idea of how much I'm sick of this bullshit, I just told DISH Network this past week to come get their effin' equipment now that my required 2-year contract is up. I'm done with satellite AND cable TV, it's not worth the ridiculous rates they charge for even basic services anymore, I honestly haven't watched any TV in several weeks now, I'd honestly rather surf the net and play PC games/play console emulators. I'm fixing to go get me a PC Audio and Video remote feed device and hook that up to my living room TV and just stream whatever I like WHENEVER I like off of sites like Hulu.com, FOR FREE. (like some anime, been catching up on some Samurai X, Ruruoni Kenshin!)

Good for them, however they've still got a ways to go as far as space travel goes, this particular launch wasn't even a manned flight.

When they can get a man on the moon, then I'll be impressed with the exploits of the Chinese Space Program. So far, only the US has achieved this objective...

Sadly, we need serious paradigm shifts in advanced technology for deep space travel and especially in our own lives and society as a race before we ever seriously consider exploring the solar system and beyond in manned missions.

As Riebens hints, the last thing we need to do is to drag our problems, wars and society ills to the rest of our solar system, much less to any stars and solar systems beyond our own.

    Don't forget Doomsday!

I've had it for years now, it's an awesome AWESOME modernized port of Doom, Doom II, Final Doom, i.e. it's add-ons like The Plutonia Experiment, Eviloution, also the Heretic series games, Heretic, Hexen and Hexen II.

Hell it will even play the Doom II port of Wolfenstein 3D if you can find it! (edit: it's WolfenDoom, found it last night 8):D )

    Doomsday Engine

    Awesome news indeed!

I have some questions though OP, I assume you do run separate servers for both the website and the actual CF mod right?

If yes, what kind of hardware specs is the mod server running these days?

Just a little FYI folks, once CF 1.9 is released, I'll be issuing version 1.9 of the system maps I created, with the newly discovered Canis sector and an actual Sol sector map.

Currently I'm in the middle of updating them, trying to figure out ways to improve them and give them a general face-lift. More details to come when they are released!

No, no, for easy money, nearly instant, go loot the wrecks in Bad Lands, there are images of their location even on google as they're since vanilla. You will need several trips, and the Cardmine is sold very well on Manhattan :)

Uhhhh Micheal... While that's good for one short but very profitable(and risky haha) run, it won't give them the many more millions they will need to advance further into the game to get the max equipment. There are shortcuts as you've given, but ultimately it's going to require some "grinding" at either missions or trading at some point to get the millions one will require.

There is also the aspect of you needing a powerful enough ship, weapons and equipment to get past the NPCs where such wrecks are found as well...

My best advice to all new CF singleplayers/multiplayers going solo is this:

If you want to earn cash the easy way through trading, buy a Rhino and start running good paying routes in New York and surrounding systems, the starting amount of cash should get you sufficient armament and enough capital to start making short range trade runs. Later you can venture out to other systems, get a better cargo ship and expand your trade routes. Take advantage of some of the maps I have to find the fastest and (hopefully) best paying routes! Visiting many bases is the best way to find the best routes, always!

If you want to earn cash the HARD WAY through bounties, missions and so forth, you'll want to head directly to Battleship Missouri in the New York system and buy a Defender. Next, head to Detroit Munitions and get some good shield busters, preferably two of them.(keep them on your lower lvl gun slots, you'll see why in a second) NOW, head to the Bering system just past the Texas system to the Freeport there.(watch your 6, the Unioners are pretty ruthless and very tough at your current level) MAX out your Defender with the thruster, shields, mines, CMs and weapons you find there, try to keep your shield busters on your lower level gun slots while the heavy Zoner guns go in the lvl 5 slots. Next, head back to Texas and fly to either of the prisons there to either take missions collecting pods from Liberty Rogues, Xenos and selling them back to the prisons for big money. In no time you'll have enough cash to upgrade and start heading towards Rheinland, where your next destination will be the prison station in Hamburg.(there's a jumphole in the junkfield in NW of the New Berlin system that connects straight to it, but it also has major pirate activity surrounding it) Nearby in the Frankfurt system and the nearby Sigma-13 system are two systems that have bases with nice high level equipment upgrades and in Sigma-13 the GMG can sell perhaps some of the best lvl 9 guns, Skyblast Bs. At that point you should be pretty far along and can survive most NPCs. If not, you're close to X-3043 at that point where you can find even better weapons and gear, eventually you'll want to fly to Sol and then the Altair sector for better ships and weapons.

    Hope this helps!

Yes, those are the RL stars/systems near Sol within a roughly 10-15 light year distance Michael.

There would only need to be a few systems for the Sol sector to make it somewhat more realistic,(or occupied I guess) I suspect as that's about how many of them would be of any interest.

Perhaps one or two could be actual colonized systems like Proxima Centari, Alpha Centari, Tau Ceti, Eplison Eridani or maybe Eplison Indi are suitable stars for habitable life with marginally earth-like planets(after perhaps years of terraforming as well) or nearby starbases, they all contain either yellow or orange stars.(i.e. young stars) The rest could be just either natural resource discoveries/mining systems with a starbase here and there.

Looks like a CF 1.9 overhaul of the sector maps I did is due soon...

Now about Sol, specifically, why is it a "sector"? I realize it's the largest system in Crossfire, without a doubt... (with Sovetskaya just right behind it)

Whether or not I necessarily agree with that as I've understood it, a sector is a small chunk of the galaxy, not an actual solar system...

This will screw with my specific 1 kiloparsec = 1 galactic sector measurements though, perhaps Sol will be a special sector designation.

But since the new 1.9 maps have it listed OP, I will probably add it to the maps I've done so far though.

I'm gonna try to locate the actual location of the VY Canis Majoris star in respect to the stars Sol, Sirius and Altair in the Milky Way, I suspect this is where OP got his inspiration for the Canis sector. ;)

    Oh yea...

Looks like Ryssk has been reclaimed from the United Dom Occupation Forces by the Dom'Kavash.

    Fixed... ;):P:thumbsup:

Yep, AMD's HD series cards are great buys and most of the time ahead of the pack with Nvidia's offerings as of late.

I'd love to drop one of these puppies in my system but sadly, my system is so ancient, it would make more sense to do a complete overhaul at this point.(much less I don't even have a PCI-E 2.0 slot on my motherboard, I do have a very nice 3850HD AGP though haha)

I'II need far more than a new graphics card, more like everything else as well will need to be replaced.

Nice system too by the way Maddox. I'm eyeballing your system specs pretty hard as I'd like to do it with a Phenom II X4 setup come early next year if Bulldozer hasn't been released for the desktop by then.

I wholly expect it Micheal, it's why I want you guys to keep the ball rolling... :)

And thanks Forlon for taking the "LoreKeeper" role, Crossfire still needs one, especially when the next short story chapter of Crossfire in v1.9 is released.

I know you'll do a good job man, besides I've already done all the hard work... ;):D:thumbup:

    MARK AND REMEMBER! :wissenschaftler:
