LONG LIVE THE FIGHTERS! *raises crysknife*
That's incredibly awesome... A first-person shooter game already co-existing in the EVE universe... EVE controls the events in space, DUST 415 controls the events and campaigns on the surface of planets, with some degree of interaction I'm sure... Most awesome.
Now... If only someone could create a first-person shooter engine that co-insides with events and space battles in Crossfire, hell even a mecha game like the Mechwarrior series would be fabulous.
I've seen how another certain mod author has created a mod where battles can take place on the surface of FL planets, with vintage styled warplanes and even sea-borne vessels. I only fathom what OP could dream up in that regard.
Vehicles, armor, (maybe) mecha, sea vessels, sprawling and moving with already airborne LFs, HFs, VHFs, transports, capital ships and so forth across certain habitable planets in Crossfire... *sigh* One can dream I guess.
Years ago, in a galaxy far far away...
*ahem*
Seriously, many years ago, Electronic Arts in it's early days was a great company and had some really great games coming out of it's offices. Games like Pinball Construction Set, Archon, The Bard's Tale, Skate or Die, The Immortal(played this awesome game on my NES haha), The Wing Commander series, the Need for Speed series(pursuit mode is the most awesome race mode), Simcity, One on One: Dr. J vs. Larry Bird(played this on my old Atari 7800 LOL) , Command and Conquer and the list goes on... However...
Greed once again seems to have gotten the better of EA sadly and as a result, QA goes down and their corporate dividends goes up, making the leaders of this company start to care less about the people who made EA what it was and why it's hugely successful as it is now... But if things continue as they are this will quickly change, perhaps it may be for the better too I think. EA needs to get whacked back down to a more respectable size, return to it's roots and remember what it's like to be a small upstart, innovative and creative company again.
Ryleous Arkane (SA_ORION): Orion, you are giving away many hints
Knowledge is not just for the knowledgeable my good man. The younger, inexperienced and unskilled players must learn from somewhere too.
Besides, I didn't spill the beans yet on how to neutralize alpha and beta strikes... Much less about thrust vectoring, engine kill and ship maneuvering, those are far more important IMHO.
Oh about the "l33t gamz0r meeces", yea, this is why I've stuck with 5 button mouses. There is usefulness and then there is overkill... While the macro mouses are nice, they are very pricey and sometimes very cryptic to use, particularly for fast action stuff like Crossfire. They are a boon for RPGs and other similar role-playing stuff though for sure! 5 button mouses w/a scroll wheel, with good optical laser tracking and high DPI are more than sufficient for playing Crossfire.
Display Morethats simply a matter of timing, some knowledge about the opponents ship, a clean ping (no losses and as less as possible fluct) clean gamefiles, much training and some knowledge about missiles. Nothing special if you ask me.
One lonely Torp (Sunslayer) is not able to destroy a ship as long as your own Missle load did not exploded near to your Ship before.
At least nothing special and in no kind is any Mouse or Keyboard driven Script needed.
Happy exploding :}
This.
I've done it on occasion in the past, it's certainly easier to do it against NPCs than it is human targets for sure though.
Oh yea, 5 button mouse FTW!
For an easy explanation to use multiple missiles and torps in one volley, learn how to utilize weapons groups in-game! This technique is invaluable in not only using what I like to call "Alpha-strikes" and "Beta-strikes" but also in using "alternate-firing" with guns.(alternating left and right side firing) Alpha and beta strikes are a two=edged sword though, in Crossfire the "splash damage" is greatly increased and if you're too close the volley's explosion, it can take out the volley, your opponent and yourself in one fell swoop.
Waiting patiently for the opportunity to utterly destroy hostile Dom bases once again in the Inner Core... *sigh*
There are more detailed maps around,(specifically CF 1.9) but you have to either know where to look, or who to ask.
Holy carp! My wish of a US based-Crossfire 1.9 server already comes true???
Seriously though, I hope he's got a better password on it than that if it's supposed to be a private server.... Dunno if I should flame-throw Talon or give congrats to the guy for getting up and stable!
Not much for general operations for each faction in the Sirius sector where most RP takes place, although some clans are more proficient in operations and information than others in regards to trading, mining, smuggling, bounties and so forth.
Perhaps joining one of them would would give you a good jump-start, unless you are headstrong and independent, then I'd suggest to be prepared to do alot of research...
However, I do have some information regarding the alien species and more distant sectors in this mod.
See my siggy for the link to download the SAL Xeno Guide. I will warn you though, there are alot of spoilers in it, so decide now whether or not you want to find out most of this information for yourself.
Aside from all of that, my only other suggestions are to either start trading in the sectors near Liberty space or start taking faction contracts against enemy NPCs and sell the pods at nearby prisons(like the two in Texas)
Once you get enough money and upgrades to max out a VHF then you can really start exploring all the sectors of Crossfire.
*sigh* A man's who's avatar (and siggy) has a very unhealthy fascination with Sephiroth.

May you have a great b-day Vishnu and many more man.
For a minute there I thought I was playing COD or some kind of shooter, LOL!
1 BAZILLION POINTS - YOU HAVE UNLOCKED GOD MODE! WINZ0R!
*Updated for 3012(2012), Crossfire 1.9!*
Ahhh, I stand corrected then, good to hear OP, thanks!
Yea, I agree with your sentiments Rex and Husker, creating and running a whole new CF server would be rather expensive I'd imagine. It would need quite a bit of financial backing and support of course, with someone here in North America as a representative of Swat who would be dedicated to help make it happen. Not only with man hours towards getting the server established, but also with a substantial amount of money to rent the server and for hosting services. I've actually hosted a Freelancer server on my own computer years ago (once as a vanilla server and other times as other mods, like Freeworlds 1.66) So I have some inclination of how much time and effort can go into it getting it up, running and stable. I can only fathom that Crossfire 1.9 is probably many more times more intensive and requires far more server muscle to run, much less the amount of administrating to get it running smoothly along with managing player accounts and governing things through server police, aka the GRs.
Yea, I too noticed all the major Freelancer mods have a US-based server,(with pretty good player numbers to boot) so I hope one day Crossfire will have one too. For now, I can only dream I guess... But first things first, I gotta get some free time to even be able to log in to Crossfire again, my personal endeavors with music right now is my current priority sadly.
Sorry to hijack a thread...
This is more a question for you Huor...(and maybe OP) But is there any way a second, perhaps US-based Crossfire server could ever be created granted with OP's approval, "blessing" and under his direct supervision?
Granted, I imagine the server population and server loads would have to peak out on the current server as well for this to even be considered a possibility of course. I assume this also would facilitate the need for a "partner" to the Swat team to be based in the US to become a "sub-admin" for such a server. Anyway, I expect the standard expected response, but maybe, just maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised... So let me know your thoughts, thanks in advance!
Gentlemen... There is truly nothing new under the sun.
Free energy concepts and such devices have been around for many years now, or at least in prototype stages anyway... Nikola Tesla was also one of those people working on this concept as well from my understanding and research.(which may be another reason about his mysterious death, which leads to my next statement...)
The reason there are no such devices around to this day gentlemen is because there are far, FAR too many people in power with lots of money at their disposal, particularly in the energy and oil industries who have much, much to loose to such a device if it ever hit the market, therefore... Most likely they can and will do everything in their power to keep such a device from ever seeing the light of day. My estimation is most people who do develop such a device and seriously consider marketing it are quickly bought up by said oil and energy companies, promptly shelved never to be heard about or seen ever again.
Regardless, best of luck in development of such a device, it would finally and radically change our planet forever for our energy needs. Perhaps this too is why a free energy generator has never become a feasible reality...
FWIW... I had come up with a similar idea to this a year or two ago Cro which involved using the X-3043 system and NPC involvement, a full-scale ASF/CSF battle near the Nomad gates utilizing battleships as the main targets and planned to utilize bombers, gunboats, cruisers, destroyers and regular VHFs in this event. I took into consideration that the unpredictable element of the NPC ASF/CSF forces would always make things interesting, even with mismatched sides, proper use of tactics with NPC involvement could turn the tide at times for the smaller team. The massive amount of NPC and human players posing as ASF and CSF forces would make for an interesting live action re-creation battle of the ASF/CSF battles X-3043 is known for and make for a great event.
I'm glad to see you've taken the initiative to start this version/idea of it up and keep it running, I think it's a great alternative to old Assault event which is difficult at times to get going due to the use of the Asteroid Miners.
Hopefully one day, I'll be able to return to Crossfire to participate and enjoy this event... Right now, I just joined up a new band with some new friends and sadly my free time has become very, very limited. (plus the band is off to a really great start!)
In the meantime, I wish you guys lots of fun and success in this server event man. I'd love to watch some videos of this if someone records one sometime...
