Day cycles and weather

  • I would want to test a new script adding day and night cycles aswell as different weather effects on cityscapes.


    There are two possible options.

    1. The cycle is purely bound to the players local time. If you play in the evening or night the game will also show cities at night. If you play at daytime cities will render the daytime scenes. Advantage is immersion. Disadvantage is that might not see settings because you always play at a certain time.
    2. Same as above but having 3 ingame day cycles per real day. Advantage is that you can experience more different settings. Disadvantage is that it is no longer directly bound to your local time.


    Opinions please.

  • I dont know obout others but my job have diferent shifts so i dont play at same time. So no disadvantage for me for option 1. On the other hand with option 2 all players from diferent time zones will end up in same daytime or night time but cos of diferent time zones for some players will be night for some day that can be confusing. So ill go with option 1 it seams more natural to me

  • I played Cyberpunk 2077 with much faster day/nigh cycle and I really liked it. In ED I found info that day/night cycle have 60 minutes. Personally I therefore support option 2, and having even more cycles (2-3 hours per cycle) would be imo even better. There are numerous ingame things taking amost "0" time like loading of cargo etc which would normally need big amount of RL, so having faster day/night cycle, especially in game where you move between space systems makes imo perfect sense.

  • Ok the test version got released.

    It only changes Manhattan so far.

    I decided to release option 2 for test purposes since the faster cycle allows to test the the different weather states easier. This easily can be changed to option 1 later on.

    There are 8 different settings which currently cycle through every 8 hours. Day/Night cycle including sunset. Clear sky, cloudy, rainy and thunder.


    In theory it should be possible to change windows time setting to test all settings without waiting.

  • Während der cutscenes ist der Regen noch ein Problem. Dafür muss ich noch eine Lösung finden.
