Well the point off this thread is theat i am Sick and tired of how ppl cant make a good Rp i mean just came in and found a smmuglering routin no Pirats just smmuglers and as i have a VHF statoned in Dublin i was just trying to stope thean ...but hei gues what not only theat one off this smuglers is such a NOOB who relodes i get a mesage Theat Black Marked is legal ..i mean how stu** u need to be to say samsing liek theat and another thing ok escorting theats a good idea for mercanery RP i like thaet but maby ppl COULD JUST GROUP AND NOT JUST FLY AROUND SO THEAT nobody knows if ther is an escort or not .... and if we make it clear this was Wavey who did not group

As a "Good Cop" I only attack pirates that I actually catch taxing or killing. This was what I was told after we first became Police. In other words it does not matter whether they fly the pirate flag or not, I am only supossed to judge them on their actions.
This must then also be true the other way around. Even if they say they are Military, Police etc, if the are carrying contraband they are smugglers and should be treated as such.
Allowing people to get to level 50 before taking fatal measures against them though is only fair as we all did some smuggling to build chars when we started. The rules need to be explaned to noobs and they need to know that they are getting away with just a warning because of there inexperience.

Merc fired cds at you several times but you ignored him and went after me and you died !
A little tip dont give advance warning but also dont use tools that arent a part of FL for RP
I certainly did not reload
Now as to RP BG are a Military clan ,and military do break various laws ie smuggling ect
Drugs are a NO thops did u expect me to say yes destroy my cargo without a fight?
I was closer to LA could have taken it back lolpps I have never had a prob with doing same with CFPD,If I die that is my risk and part of the fun

@ Raven, I have to agree with Wavey, using the scan feature 3 systems away is not rp.
And I also must say, that everyone smuggles to make money, you just have to pick your times to do it.
Just because you did not watch your rear-end while chasing BG, that is not their fault and good rp by the merc.
All this sneaking around is part of the game....just announce your rp and go for it. If you lose, you lose, if you win, you win.

the scan is part of an external tool called flshell it is in no way part of freelancer and as such why should it be used for RP purposes?.

I would argue that the scanning tool is a very useful RP tool. Smugglers almost never stop, and if you wait to scan them until they are in radar range you're not going to have any time to warn them that they're in violation before having to shoot them (since they'll be in cruise and streaking by you rather than stopping to chat with you). I don't agree with using the tool when your target is out of the system, but unless there comes to be radars with a radius of 30K or so it's much more practical to scan transports with the tool rather than one's onboard equipment.
If the tool's access was revoked from the common player then ordering the smugglers to stop and then killing them if they refuse would be nearly impossible unless you're in a large group and have somebody laying a trap in the next system or something... (on the other hand, if CD's would work hitting any part of a train this probably wouldn't be a problem)
Anyway, I haven't really done this much personally, but I recognise the potential and appreciate it. Honestly, I can usually tell a smuggler from anyone else just by looking at the chat history and seeing which system the trader is on. If it's high-level and flying from California towards Sol it's usually a dead giveaway people what smuggling is aloof.

So as long as we only use the tools available via our HUD then we do not have to give warnings before opening fire when contraband is detected?
If we see a tax call in a system we are in and someone is killed, do we then need to tell the pirate that we are hunting them?
I also thought that for low level players we could just shoot them up a bit with Tizonas to give them the idea. At least we cannot kill them that way. If they F1 then it is an even bigger lesson to learn.

That's not what I'm suggesting. I'm just saying that a good cop doesn't shoot until the suspect has been warned, but if you wait to scan them up close and personal you'll never get the chance to do that because by the time you've given the warning they'll have gotten away
I don't think it has anything to do with hunting pirates. Police KOS pirates when they're actively taxing and Pirates may KOS Police as RP, no?

DC - I respect what u did last night in Dublin and Hyperion. You were on your own and you certainly got me thinking about what was going on - any my next actions.
As IOC, I dont think we could PVP against police - maybe we could hire mercs in secret to take you out?
At one point I considered offering you something to look the other way but thought otherwise as you could take offence.
Although this RP is difficult as you were on your own - I certainly thought you did a good job and would like to encourage you in this.
You got me thinking about RP and that was good.
By the way - the Junkers were also using that cargo command thing yesterday - are they pirates or police?

Just to clear things up,
The Junkers are a pirate-smuggling-merc clan that operate mainly one one high profile route. The Junkers also apear to be a one man clan, and Yes, i was using cargo scan as a prediction tool for the blockade i was in yesterday.
On a side note, the repeated killing of BG's Sanny's Battleship was a defensive attack. he was agressivley following our convoy after he opened fire on us in Dublin.
Before that we had made clear to him that we didnt want to fight a biiiigggg scarrrryyy battleship.To adress the Tool, Yes, i think it is cheap, but not that it affects RP. also, for my purposes its not really nessecary. one can predict such things from system movement. I agree that its use should be restricted.
