A few questions

  • I've got a few questions of a somewhat technical nature though they are not actually what i would perceive as problems(hence i post them here)
    I changed the font of the mod back to the original as I had problems reading the text and also changed back to the vanilla cross-hair since I couldn't see the modded ones half the time(are there any of them that don't get obscured by the background? I tried nr. 3+4)


    I'm telling you this cause I want to give you an impression of the kind of player I am. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and when I can, I try to mod the game I'm playing until its perfect in my eyes. I'll spend days modding a game before even trying it! Its kind of annoying actually; sometimes i spend more time fiddling with stuff than actually playing it.


    Anyway here it is. Love the game and what you devs of CF has done to it, but got some questions:
    -I know I can reinstall the mod, but is there another way to change the character model? I thought the model i chose when installing was for MP and not SP. Right now my Trent is a guy with a mustache in a suit.... -Granted, its funny but not very immersive.
    -Same question for particles, I chose the red ones- but who knows? Maybe Id like the yellow one better? Or maybe the Green or maybe the.......


    -Before installing the mod I played vanilla a bit and in the starting cutscene where Trent is leaving the station there is some chatter from the woman that she is sending out fighters to escort people.
    Not so in the CF version. Here its indistinguishable until the point where you see rockets hit the station. After that I can hear what they are saying just fine. Question is if this is intended or a bug with the sound I need to fix, so as I don't miss out on soundeffects later on in the campaign? I tried turning on/off 3D sound in options but it didn't change anything.

  • Oh yes. Read it multiple times. Surely there must be a way to swap back to the original model by swapping out some files in the [CHARACTERS] folder? same goes for particles. I don't really fancy reinstalling the mod every time I wanna check out another awesome particle color :(

    In FAQ is described how to fast reinstall mod or use more mods at oce. You can use it for activation more CF versions with different settings (have it myself and it works good). Then you can compare and find what will fit you best.

    Made an installation for single player only so I can mess around.
    found out how to swap around character models after some tinkering. Just need to find out where them particle colors are..

  • Well the characters are a bit harder to explain, but for the particles that is a lot easier.
    If you look to your Freelancer\Data\Fx folder there you will find several files beginning with sarma+.txm. The * stands for the color we support. If you want to change your current particle color to another you just have to rename the sarma.txm to sarma_org.txm and rename one of the sarma*.txm files of your choice back to sarma.txt.


    If you do that whilst playing the new color should first be visible if you have switched systems or docked and undocked from a station or planet. Or just by restarting the game :)
    As told characters are a lot more compley (not really as long you know what files are affected). Gonna tell this later.

  • Well, now that we are on topic...
    Huor: Any way to fully disable advanced shaders without reinstalling ? Not the "Shift + F12" way, that won't work properly.
    And maybe switching between adv shader types same as how we can switch between mouse cursors, without reinstalling anything.


    I got this question several times, from others, but I never needed to search for the solution.
