Troubles with widescreen mod (fixed)

  • Brand new install of Windows 7 Home Premium.
Fresh install of FLMM, Freelancer and Crossfire. [tried COMPLETE wipe and reinstall of FLMM, FL and Xfire 3 times...get the same thing]
    UAC disabled.
    Windows Firewall disabled.
    Antivirus not installed yet.
    No errors during installs.

Also, on my character selection screen, the location of my own ships are listed as ????

Fixed and working 100%!! Problem was the widescreen mod. It didn't like being activated after Crossfire so I activated it before. Back playing at 1920x1080 and now with everything turned on full blast, dynamic everything, super-de-duper detail levels. It's almost like a whole new game!

  • Interesting, is possible that this can 'damage' ship location and lead to corrupted char? I saw this ??? player location few times before.

  • Not sure if that's the case here. In my case, the widescreen mod wrote over something in the Crossfire mod as I installed and activated Crossfire first...then the widescreen mod. It must have written over something important. I don't see how a client-side font/screen rez edit could affect server files. I didn't get any kind of cheat message so it apparently didn't affect the server in any way. Nor did the launcher find anything wrong. The problem was totally on my side. But all is well now! I even turned on bump mapping this time. The graphics when I am docked are sometimes a bit wonky [missing textures and such] and also on single-player cut scenes but in space is amazing!

  • Never tried enabling bump mapping (remembering from other games that it made some textures too bright while the others stayed dark), can you post some screenshots?

No. this has been a random problem over the years on CF and usually, just reinstalling CF ( over-writing the installation ), fixes the issue. But if you try other mods, this can be one of the results.

@Rex: sorry, I didn't realize you had a WS mod installed.

  • bump mapping already exists in CF? O_O

During activation, when you choose all the different things like what kind of Trent you want, sexy Juni or not etc, one of the choices is Advanced Shader [?] Bump mapping is one of the choices on there. As soon as I find a free image posting site that doesn't shrink my screenies like photobucket does, I'll post a few.

  • sorry to go off topic here but...
Bump mapping is one thing we are trying to get integrated into the game without making or using different shaders from what we have now. Plz post the ingame screenshots of the bump mapping you see as soon as you can :P
