nobody ever mines, it slow, the profits are terrible, nobody ever needs to hire mercs as protection, pirates never want to tax them, police never get to fine them.
just a way to increase RP....

There are places and things (like the bigger asteroids) to mine, that gets pretty profitable... but are more of a mistery for players.
-
I tried buying a mining ship and cracking big asteroids in different places. Horatio is right, the profit is tiny, distances are long and the cargo hold is too little.

ahhh, still how the hell do i use a mining ship properly?
shout fus ro da until it breaks? -

Dunno, never had one - useless, in my opinion.

You use that on dragons, like, Maxbur and Sphinx and others...

But I mostly fly alone...and is minimal one situation when can come this ship handy
Yep this amazing laser (~300000 damage) can crack battleships with 2 shots if you manage to point it in the right direction! -
But I mostly fly alone...That's tough. But if I remember correctly, it was meant to be so clans or teams would have something to do, revitalize team efforts and stuff.
But the low profits compared to the time invested in this, plus cargopods being so lucrative, and BMG routes being shit, I guess it never really took off... -
I bought a mining ship. But as long as I can make million of profit with selling cargo pods with a train and i have 233 cargo space it will just be a hobby...

how about this for an idea, recently cracked asteroids create "pure" and "raw" versions of the commodity that is in question, like "flawless diamonds" and "rough diamonds"
the raw variation only has one place that it is valued higher that the pure version, i.e flawless diamonds sell for 1250$ per ton in planet stuttgart and everywhere else 1050$ but rough diamonds sell for 2000$ at station hope and 600$
a SF train dull of rough diamonds could pull a profit of 5 milalso variations of mining ship could be nice "large scale mining vessel" 2 mining lasers that can turn around about 30 degrees and a cargo space of 3000 but to buy it cost around 90mil
just ideas for the formation of profitable mining -

@Cresthen: That laser makes no damage to battleships
-

NPCs are too easy to catch
It's just too hard on cap ships piloted by humans. -
it does damage only if shields are down

when did the off topic flag up?
