Troubles ... torrent ...

@Cro: From where the heck you got Freelancer ? that adress looks like a team's cracked FL game, remember guys that cracked games are usually ripped and won't work properly on everything.

Also the fact it says "exe2" so you now have 2 EXE folders, was a simptom of something about installation, but not sure what atm.

luka: well, probably there is some register or something wrong you do while installing if you say the same download worked for another guy. Is your Windows ok(not making random errors or such) ? does it has all the programs ? you know, stable versions of .Net frameworks, drivers, passport, whatever you have in your PC. Is it defragged ? it could loose data even while transferring from your friend's USB if not.

I think you could try with a fresh windows install(this will also clean everything unusseful for you which is more than you think as you can notice with CCleaner), if you know how to make it and have the original disk(easier than with cracked stuff) but you can also check that info on the internet as you'll keep your old windows and data. When you install it, just choose the same partition(if you don't have another) and choose a different Windows folder than the one existing.

I thinks torrents are the most evil thing in existance today, even before spam mail.

The only thing you get from torrents is auto bots (and notthe repairing kind), worms (not the bird food kind) and unisable programs and killed pc ...

Ask yourself .. what economic reason would someone have for making masive downloads and bandwidth available free of charge ??

Nothing in life is free ... there isalways some price to pay ...

@Cro, using a cracked FL may get you blocked on the server due to errors, unknown errors with no sign/reason on the server may be cause of ripped FL installations, which is told in the manuals(older than FAQ) that you need a Fresh "normal" install.
And you told you had FL on CD before, not the FL's CD, that means you never bought Freelancer ? It's such an old game, as vanilla, that you can find it at abandonware for some bucks, and in real life at second hand places for 3€ or arround. If you weren't so far from me maybe I'd send you my 2nd original FL box As I "lost" the first, bought another, now I have both.

I bought Freelancer back in 2004 at a mild sale price. It has done me right ever since because I hide my CD from me and copied the entire CD directly onto my hard drive. I never transmit it from my hard drive because strange things can happen to the files. Anyways, you can completely load a safe stable Freelancer using the original boxed version without a CD as long as you had the CD and copied the files. I never ever download a vanilla game off the internet that has been stolen. At the very least 'weird' things can happen if you take it online. You can also be looking at a total ban. Some servers you can't even get away with one infraction. Some of the newer games out I see thousands of people getting banned. I do think a lot of the glitches are from people installing improperly. Sure there is always a chance that something out of your control happens that causes corruption but if you follow the instructions without skipping any steps the game should function the same on almost every system and hardware configuration. I have used dozens of different configurations and they all worked but I did I have tailor graphics a bit. I was at one point running a PC completely on a graphics card processor. For this specific game I wouldn't do that because it will cause system wide hangs and crashes. Good luck and OP can't really fix a lot of the locked away parts of the original game that are not so perfect. Most of the bugs you will ever see are specifically from the basic rules of "How Not To Be Sued".

nobody said you did not buy it ... it's just that the behaviour you describe is typical of people that don't purchase software...

Why is said it's dangerous ... torrents are ALWAYS adjusted in some or other way .... and not to the benefit of the person downloading them ...

I have the same problem... I've done a clean install from an original FL disk, installed 1.9 and played from the 1st original mission all the way up to the Sol mission with out any problems ?.
Once the carrier is destroyed the game crashes and I get the same Runtime message as above.
This happens on Win 7 and XP (dual boot PC)
Any ideas ?

any crash log from the event viewer of your windows?

Hi Huor... No just the runtime error as above.....

But I've just retied it again from an earlier save game (the start of the Sol mission) and it played all the way through the mission and didn't crash. So I've got to the next mission. I'll let you know if there's any further problems.

Correct, and if it wasn't for the screenshot telling the pirate team, I would never find it out to say he may get blocked on teh server due to errors...(chars getting corrupt not counting manual actions).

It is also why theese posts were moved, possibly we find more people with cracked games and reporting unusual stuff that neither OP with his team can reproduce(Crookey ? ).

If Freelancer would be one of those new games that cost 50 bucks could be understandable though you still have to hide it on their communities, but FL is now even on old classic games sites sold for 5-10 bucks counting you don't find it in your town which could result cheaper.

Hi Mike... as I said in my post above I was getting the same error (minus the cracking team tag) but "I used an original FreeLancer disk not a cracked version"

I tried it again from earlier same game and it worked ok. It must have been a corrupt save game file ?

Maybe some skipped text or symbol

works perfectly.

As you suguested, i have problems with my computer, so i asume some programs/drivers are missing/corrupted.

I will try with CCleaner, if there are still some save files, but i think my computer it the blame.

When you reinstall windows, depending on what type it is, remember to first get and install all updates( you may also use AutoPatcher, google it, as many/sometimes it seem to stuck after SP3) then all the drivers of the stuff in your PC, your GPU, chipset, cards, Winrar, divx, adobe flash, K lite codec pack, etc, THEN the programs you want it

As I remember you were using Windows XP(anyway this is for EVERYONE), some time ago when I reinstalled the XP, I found this site: What to install after a Fresh XP Install, with a very complete list of all stuff you need and optional for your own use, even the options to make it be/look the same as Windows Vista but using just 10 mb RAM more, not 1 GB ram min lol
