Well to start learning german you should know of our alphabet. Which consists of the following letter:

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvw

Plus some additional letters - we say Umlaute like:

ÖÄÜ or öäü (which has the meaning of OE, AE, UE, or oe, ae or ue)

Plus a special s - that more likely is a ss:

ß [eszet]

Words are mostly combinations (various) of the above found letters, from words starting with 2 letters up to words till 20 or more letters
Combinations of words forms sentences - which most likely are containing subject, object and predicate. Subjects mostly are nouns - but not mandatorily, predicate and object may be verbs or adjectives.
The we have 4 normal causes each with its own time forms (future 1 and 2, present, past present, perfect, past perfect etc pp...)

So a lot to learn - before you come to swearing or cursing learn the above. Then it might work better. Especially talking with officers should be on the formal way. So avoid saying "Du" - instead use "Sie"...
