Do we really need Countermeasures on our ships?

CMs or countermeasures are really USEFULL and NOT USELESS.
1. Against NPC you could use CMs for quick escape if you was caught with illegal cargo by police, they try to CD you, or pirates demand your cargo and on ur "six".
2. You could escape from notorious nomads to avoid killing them. Why? To avoid ruine DK reputation.
3. In PvP you really need to use CMs from enemy missiles. Besides, if you off from CMs - your opponent have a good chance to frag you. Sure, if you too good-skilled pilot, you could try to survive and to win.

well you need them to avoid missiles and CDs. Just a little hint : one CM is often not enough, i suggest keep dropping them while the missile icon is flashing in your cockpit (5 to 10 times). And well its not expensive so its always nice to bring them along the way

CMs are useful yes but not crucial for PvP

if you are REALLY (and with that I mean REALLY) good at PvP (and are REALLY REALLY good at evading) then you can avoid missiles without using CMs... but thats only if you are hardcore

otherwise I'd suggest you use them

Right, I haven't been around much lately, but as far as I know, if you're in a nimble fighter, you shouldn't have the need to have a CMdropper (even though having one still is great as a back-up). Just swerve up-down-left-right. Your evasives should be enough to mess up the CD's guidance systems.

So, the final answer for this topic is: YES, CMs are very important in chasing, PvPing, especially in PvE and evading hard Alien races. Result---> Use them, they'll save your life
