  • What is NSU?

Nightstalker's Universe Mod has been in the works for 7 years, the mod itself has gone though many incarnations including being rewritten several times. The concept of NSU is to give SciFi junkies what they are looking for. There are several sections of the mod dedicated to different SciFi Shows such as, BSG, Star Trek, Babylon 5, Firefly, and Star Wars. There are several sections of the mod that come from different ideas I have come up with and each system is uniquely different with custom suns, starspheres, and a few planets. The Mod has a lot to offer for a wide range of players. At the start you are given 5 choices though the use of one way jump holes (one in ST, SW, B5, Nightstalker Space, Terran Alliance Space). There are also 4 unique Factions in the mod, including Rogue Asteroids, Comets, Derelicts (Moving wrecks), and monsters (They hurt too).

    How and Where

How do you get a hold of the mod??
Go to Nightstalker's Universe 1.66 section on the Olympus Forums (Olympuscomplex.com) and the Shadow Work Studios site (http://z11.invisionfree.com/Shadow_Work_Studios ) and you'll find the link for the mod under the thread NSU Download 1-66 Final. It is also available here as well.

Where do you play this monster??
This mod runs on one server currently, This is a European Server so US players might have a high ping. The USA server is now live, you can get the IP right below this.

    Server Forum:
    Olympuscomplex.com

    IP:
    USA: 205.185.113.40
    EU: olympuseu1.servegame.org

    Who Runs the Servers??

The Olympus Freelancer Complex is lead by RJOtto (EU-1) + USA-1 ran by Nightstalker and is policed by the SAS (Server Admin Squad) to keep the place cheat free. The mod maker is me Nightstalker and I make it a point to play whenever I can so see you on the server.

    Troubleshooting Install Problems

For this mod to work properly, you need a clean install of Freelancer with no patches, SDK, or anything to that effect. You will also need to delete the Freelancer folder under My Documents.

    1. Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer and delete the Freelancer folder (Make sure you copy your FL ID just in case it asks).
    2. Go to documents and settings\My Documents\My Games\Freelancer and delete the Freelancer folder (Users\username\\My Documents\My Games\Freelancer under Vista and Windows 7)
    3. Reinstall Freelancer, do not install the flpatch or SDK as these are not needed. IF you install these the mod will not like you
    4. Redownload the mod (Might also be an incomplete download or a corrupted one). If you think it is good, just activate it in FLMM
    5. Run the mod (It should work like a charm then).

The mod is very touchy about leftovers from other mods since just about everything has been recoded. This mod is not like other mods. There is however another way to go about this for advanced users.

    1. After you install Freelancer before you do anything create a folder in Microsoft Games called FL_Bak (OR anything you like, I use Freelancer_Bak)
    2. Create a new folder once again Freelancer NSU (Copy the untouched files into this directory) and copy all the files out of mod manager and paste them directly into it and say yes to when it asks to overwrite the files.

Effectively, you will have three folders in the Microsoft Game folder

    Freelancer
    Freelancer_Bak
    Freelancer_NSU

    3. Create a shortcut of Freelancer.exe from this directory "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer_NSU\freelancer.exe" -s184.105.208.200:2302 -solympuseu1.servegame.org:2302 (This will put both the USA server and EU server on the top of the global list)

You can only do this with non-scripted mods, some mods also contain scripts in the script.xml that house the flmm descriptions.

  • Seems to be an execellent work with nice features... keep on going m8!

  • At over 670 Mb, the NSU 1.65 mod is easily the largest Freelancer mod to date. Expect download to take about 45 minutes with a DSL connection; good luck if you are using dial-up!

  • Is this a SP mod or MP primarily and SP or only MP?
Where is the server of the mod hosted (country)?

  • All that info is available in the original post. The mod itself is multiplayer only and can only be played on our servers (One in Dallas, TX USA and Romania)

  • After trying to register and not knowing the super duper secret answers, or not typing them in correctly...I decided that if you are that anal about verification you obviously do not need someone like me on your website. How many ways can you spell Night Stalker's Universe? NSU? NiStUN?? Typing it full out didn't work either - caps or lowercase!

Since you were trying to eliminate the robots, you could have mentioned the verification procedures and resulting answers at some point in my quest to register. Give me a frapping hint at my third of fourth try in registering.

What do you guys want exactly?

I apologize that we did not read every entry in the boards, but a registration that anal probably can do without me and my buddies. We'll stick with the normal folks.

If you have that many problems with your site, we do not need them as well.

    How difficult is that??"

That was the first set of answers I tried. Its not that I'm that old that I cannot understand simple instructions, I just got frustrated when correct answers in the correct locations cause a negative result.

The variations of answers did not go well either. I was hoping for a lock-out so I could logon again and give it another try.

However, after attempts to logon to other well-used sites and my userid and pswds were not accepted, I had to look elsewhere for the problem.

I apologize if my frustrations boiled over into the forum.

It was my computer's fault creation that caused my logon difficulties. I had recently update my computer motherboard, memory, CPU and SLI video cards and found I had to install a water cooling for my CPU and Video cards because of excessive heat. Seems that nasty heat was causing great problems with my connectability and with other things. I also installed two external exhaust fans for the rest of the components.

Seems my computer system became smarter than me, and refused to work in the heat. Bios heat shut-down and audio alarms are all working at last. I have build every computer system I ever owned and this last one needs tender loving cooling. My first computer was a Heathkit H-89 with a memory mod that gave me 56 K of RAM. It had two Z-80 CPUs - one for the motherboard and one for the keyboard. But that was probably before most of you were born. Assembly language and a modified Unix OS was a killer to program and we had only two color choices Green/Black or Yellow/Black for our displays. You young folks probably do not remember the joy of going to 4 color displays, and then 16. Elite was awesome until you got too close to the Sun while refueling. I didn't buy Win95 until the sequel for Privateer came out. Now that I'm done with my history of computing, I'll get back to playing Freelancer with the Mods I like.

Best Regards to the folks at the Swat Portal and to all the Mod'ers of Freelancer. To the Nightstalker folks...let's just say your site is awesome. I never use my forum identity for any Mod websites. Keeps it nice and friendly that way. Thank you all for your time.
